Development camp
I have some information on the camp. It will start Sunday morning (July 8) and conclude the following Saturday morning (July 14). There will be two groups, the Gold group and the Purple group. The Gold group will practice Sunday and Monday and the Purple group will practice Thursday, Friday and Saturday. All players will practice on Tuesday and Wednesday and on Wednesday, at 6:30 p.m., there will be a game.
The daily schedule is consistent. Players will have skill sessions from 8-11:30 a.m. in three hour-long shifts (first forwards, then defensemen, then goalies) and then the entire group will practice from 4-5 p.m. The exceptions are Tuesday, when practice will be from 2:30-5 p.m., Wednesday, when the game is played, and Saturday, as the camp will conclude at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
Did I explain that well enough?
The roster is still a bit fluid, but you can expect most of the top draft picks, such as Hickey, Moller, King and Turnbull, as well as some of the top prospects such as O'Sullivan, Johnson, Harrold, Parse, Lewis and Murray. The exact roster has not yet been set in stone.
Here's the link to the schedule...my limited talents don't allow me to cut and paste it here without it looking like a mess...

The game is on a Wednesday?
Wednesday, 6:30 p.m.
so will kopitar be there? because i remember i read an interview with him about summer plans and preparations for next season. he said that there is a prospect camp for which the managment said that he neednt be there but he said that he would like to participate nonetheless.
Sweet. Thanks alot for that info Rich. Will definitely be there for at least two morning sessions and the game.
I may just have to start getting sick for work.....
Thanks for the info Rich!
Rich, the official release states "The upper glass areas at the top of the rink are free and open to the public for viewing of the entire camp." Does this mean that we are no longer able to sit in the stands anymore? Or are they charging to sit there?
So do I have this right? The Gold team has four days of skills and the Purple only two before the scrimmage? And the Purple team has its skills after the scrimmage and has one more than Gold? That is one screwed up format if that's what it is! Makes it hard to see all of the players and get a feel for them comparatively.
Although I am really looking forward to the camp I'm really going to "love" the drive in rush hour traffic in order to see the forwards at 8AM. Killing the hours between practices will be "fun", too. Who came up with this "new math" schedule?
Thanks for the info. I hope I get the opportunity to meet and chat with you there, Rich.
Rich, just saw the info about the development camp on the kings website. On their official release it says: "The upper glass areas at the top of the rink are free and open to the public for viewing of the entire camp."
would you have any idea if we have to buy tickets or should i just call TSC?
Looking at the schedule some more I just realized that means going home in rush hour traffic as well! Not very fan friendly.
I'm not certain what the deal is with the seating. If they were charging, I'm sure they would have mentioned that. I'll try to find out tomorrow.
The deal with the groups is that one is primarily draft picks and the other is primarily prospects who have been in the system, so that's why they're splitting them up. I don't know how exactly they're going to be split and there could be some overlap.
The Kings are on the poll, on nhl.com. For which team will be the most improved in points next season
I think you mean Saturday July 7th - Saturday July 14th.
Histkng...I'm not sure what you mean. There's nothing going on July 7.
Season Ticket holders SHOULD have first shot at the stands
CBGB will be at the game where he will watch and say things like "Parros will NEVER make it to the NHL" and "That Connor James is FAST!", although we all remember Tukka Mantyla falling down all by himself and never to be heard from again.
Ah yes, and Ryan Flynn beating the ever living crap out of Sheldon Brookbank.
And Jared Aulin's career ending...
...and all the ladies trying to scoop on Jonathan Bernier, even though he was only 17 (shame ladies, shame)
... and Brian Boyle.... oh, nevermind.
Although I am really looking forward to the camp I'm really going to "love" the drive in rush hour traffic in order to see the forwards at 8AM. Killing the hours between practices will be "fun", too. Who came up with this "new math" schedule?
Development Camps are mandated to be no more than one week, per the new CBA. So the Kings are trying to get in as much ice time and instruction as possible. Thus, the 2-a-day workouts. Thus, substantiual rest (and equipment-drying) time in between sessions.
Gotta remember: these are for developing the players not entertaining the fans.
hey rich, not sure if i missed it but have/when do you think the kings will make the official announcement about the scott parse signing?
by the way great coverage its much appreciated by all kings fans
Not a developmental camp question but, what is the liklihood of Cammalleri being a King after the Thomas Vanek signing? A case can be made that Cammalleri's numbers are better and he's only 2 years older.
