Parse signs
I had to laugh when I actually saw the press release. The long, winding saga of Scott Parse ends, finally, with a two-year contract. I'll attach the press release below...
KINGS SIGN PROSPECT SCOTT PARSE
TO A TWO-YEAR CONTRACT
LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Kings have signed forward Scott Parse to a two-year entry level contract, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today.
Parse, 22, played in 40 games this past season for the University of Nebraska-Omaha (UNO) and had a team-leading 52 points – including a career high 24 goals -- and 36 penalty minutes. He also this past season played in 10 regular season games with Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League, where he recorded seven points (2-5=7) and six penalty minutes, and in seven playoff games with the Griffins, where he recorded one point (a goal) and eight penalty minutes.
Originally selected by the Kings in the sixth-round (174th overall) in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Parse led UNO in scoring for four years and compiled a school-record 197 points (79-118=197) from 2003-07. He was a Hobey Baker finalist the past two seasons and he was named to his third CCHA First-Team All-Conference squad.
Parse in 2005-06 was named the CCHA Player of the Year and he was named his school’s Most Valuable Player in all four seasons at UNO. He was a Hobey Baker finalist and a first team All-America selection while serving as his team’s alternate captain. He that season led the CCHA in points with 61 (20-41=61) and he led UNO to the Mavericks’ first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance.
In 2004-05, Parse set UNO single-season scoring records for points with 49 while finishing 10th in overall national scoring. He also that playoff season scored the game-winning goal in overtime against Lake Superior State in Game 2 of their first-round CCHA playoff series against the Lakers. As a freshman in 2003-04, Parse was named to the 2004 CCHA All-Rookie Team after recording 35 points, which was the fourth-highest point total among freshmen nationally. Overall, Parse departed UNO as that school’s all-time leader in goals, assists, points and games played (159), which all were consecutive.
Prior to college, Parse, a 6-1, 185-pound native of Portage, Michigan, played for the Tri-City Storm of the United States Hockey League (USHL) in 2002-03 and recorded 44 points in 48 regular season games before adding three points (2-1=3) in three playoff games. He was also that year named to the USHL All-Rookie Team and he was selected as Tri-City’s Rookie of the Year as well. In 2001-02, he played for the Soo Indians AAA Midget team.
