History's Longest Arbitration
The saga never ends. I just got word from the Kings that they don't expect a decision today, in which case it will be a Monday announcement. I guess that would have been a good thing for the NHL to mention when it issued its ``48-hour'' decree. But then again, that's why it's the NHL, right? Regardless, I think we've already hit the 48-hour mark, so we're most likely looking at Monday morning.
So go walk the dog, head to the beach or find some other way to enjoy the afternoon. By the time this thing is resolved, Cammalleri will already be a UFA...

Rich Hammond has covered the Kings, on a full-time or part-time basis, since the 2000-01 season. He was the beat writer for the entire John Torchetti era and has witnessed Bob Miller singing country music in a Nashville honky-tonk bar. A native of Los Angeles, Rich has worked at the Daily News since 1999 and also serves as the paper's deputy sports editor. E-mail Rich at rich.hammond@dailynews.com.
Jill Painter joined the Daily News in 2000 and during the last eight years she's covered the Dodgers, Cal State Northridge, UCLA, Kings, golf and everything in between. so basically we're looking at another 48 hours.
Ugh... You just know it it was any other team they would've announced it today!
Thanks Rich! I can stop checking for a decision every 20 minutes and enjoy the rest of my weekend now.
Thanks for the update and all your good work
Hey, we're all anxious, but two working days is not an eternity (it just feels like it). Arbitrators have families too... :)
I believe Avery's announcement took a similar course; meeting Thursday, announcement Monday.
Lord Hammond, the force is strong in you.
Darn, I've been refreshing TSN, RDS, Sportsnet, KuklasKorner, TFP, HockeyTradeRumors and switching back and forth between the Fan and 590 because I wanted to be the first to know. I guess I'll go clean up the dog poop on the carpet now since I didn't walk poochie all day.
In the words of Crusty The Clown "uuugggghhhhhh".....
Heck, up here in Canada, Monday's a holiday too. Maybe we won't hear until Tuesday.
I've been sitting on the computer looking for a decision to be rendered for so long now, I found dog bones in my backyard and now there's only sand at the beach.
Actually, I don't ever recall previous arbitration renderings being made on the weekends.
I thought the arbitrators got the weekend off.
31.3 Time Periods.
Unless expressly stated to the contrary, the specification of any time period in this Agreement shall include any non-business days within such period, except that any deadline falling on a Saturday, Sunday, or Federal, Provincial or Civil Holiday shall be deemed to fall on the following business day.
Briere's decision was issued on a Sunday last year.
Just to keep us all on the computer tomorrow.
On XM, in their current "Around The Rinks In 90 Seconds" it is intimated that while Cammalleri and the team both "probably" know the result of the arbitration today, it would not be made known to the media until Monday. So... if you're a personal friend of either MC or DL, give 'em a call and MAYBE they'll spill the beans.
Early Monday it is. My guess is still in the neighborhood of $3.65 per year. We'll see.
What's with the "History's Longest Arbitration" tag? I doubt anyone has been following the Stars lately but Antti Miettinen went to arbitration a week before Cammy and they were supposed to give the decision 2 days later, on a Saturday, but the arbitrator asked for more time and it was announced on the following Monday. Everyone involved thought this was a really weird thing. Not sure how this lines up against Cammy's arbitration but I thought it might be good to put the info out there.
Well, the post title was just a joke, but that's good information. Thanks!
Mondays a holiday in Canada? I need to move there.
Yeah, Canada gets 12 stat holidays a year or something...pretty awesome.
Rich, thanks for all of your efforts in keeping this blog interesting and informative. That said, we're well into Monday morning and still no news. What gives? Will we have an announcement today, or does the Canadian holiday push us into tomorrow?

Just to keep things moving along...

Eddy, chill out dude. Is it really killing you to see those time updates? If so, I highly suggest you go linger on a Ducks site.
Unfortunately, the title of this thread has proven quite prophetic...
Shut up Eddy!
It was going to be Monday of 2007 right...
