Rob Blake, Michael Cammalleri, Derek Armstrong, Alexander Frolov and Dan Cloutier are among the Kings scheduled to play in Luc Robitaille's charity poker event Friday night at the MGM. If you're going to be in Vegas, swing by the poker room at 6:30 p.m. and you should see the Kings and other celebrities starting to play. If you're playing and want any tips, I'm an avid poker player.
As Rich said, we wish we could travel with the team. I tried multiple times to sell the editors on going to Vegas but was told the travel budget is too tight right now.

Jill Painter joined the Daily News in 2000 and during the last eight years she's covered the Dodgers, Cal State Northridge, UCLA, Kings, golf and everything in between. Even though she's from Colorado, she still freezes in the Staples Center press box but always manages to thaw her fingers in time to make deadline. E-mail Jill at

avid like, perpetually re-buying at the 100NL table at Hollywood Park?
R&M, don't pay any attention. Most of us understand your JOB involves more than just covering the kings and that you can't just go on a road trip if you feel like it.
Army, thanks, but it's more than just that. For you and everyone else who might have a legitimate question about this, nobody should be expected to pay several hundred dollars out of pocket just for the right to do their job. I'd love to hear about the last time someone handed over a couple hundred bucks to their company just for the hell of it. I'd love to go to Vegas, but it's unrealistic.
Rich, do they send you out of town to cover the Lakers/Dodgers or are you guys kept at home all the time? Just wondering if thisis a full time policy or another case of hockey being treated as a second class citizen
Rich/Matt
Are you guys allowed to travel for Lakers/Dodgers or are you always kept at home. Just wondering if that is policy or another example of hockey being treated as a second class citizen
Rob, at this point our newspaper chain sends writers to travel with every team except the Kings, Ducks and Clippers. There are traveling writers for the Lakers, Dodgers, Angels, USC and UCLA. This is, sadly, becoming an industry-wide trend.
Rich & Matt,
Are you guys looking into adding a comment authenticator, now that the spam-bots have begun their attacks here? You know, the ones that ask you to validate your comment by typing in a word that looks like it was written by someone taking too much LSD while watching Rowand & Martin's "laugh-In?"
Those comment authenticators are innconvenient, but at least they would keep the spam out.
Wow, even the stanley up champs don't have a road reporter! Sucks to be a hockey fan in SoCal. I'd bet last place edmonton had a road writer last year...
ArtV. I would bet that they send one out to cover the Lakers preseason games.....Am I right Rich?
Hockey gets no respect in Ca
ArtV,
You're right. I think we're totally blowing this out of proportion for preseason games. But I think the Kings fans are right to take offense when it is disclosed that there is no traveling coverage during the regular season. Its not that this is a new paradigm, however. I believe the Times & DailyNews both stoped their traveling hockey coverage last season.
Rob...the Lakers are holding a 10-day training camp in Hawaii and I don't believe we're going to that. I could be wrong but that's the last I heard. I believe we did, however, send someone to cover part of their summer league.
Dan Cloutier couldn't bluff his way out of injury!! (sorry couldn't help it)
Thanks Rich. Keep up the good work
Any other word on celebrities or possible poker pro's in this tourney? I am actually in it and haven't heard anything.
I wish i could play just so i could try and win some of Cloutiers 3.(whatever) million back that we've wasted on him. I'd donate it to the "keep Bernier in LA" fund!
Deelo, I'm not sure what celebrities will be there. Let us know how it goes, though. You get a bounty for knocking out a King, Avalanche player or celeb.
