Bernier 9/26 postgame

Here's the transcript of Daryl's interview with Jonathan Bernier.

(Talk about playing in the first half today and what these two games have meant for yourself...)

It was still preparation for the games this weekend. It was great. I had the start tonight and the guys did a great job. We won that one, we battled hard and we got the two points.

(Maybe you can talk about, being a goaltender, the angles in a wider rink)

Yeah, for sure. It's pretty hard to get used to it but at least we had a couple practices to get used to it. It's just a matter of time.

(For you, it's been a busy summer. You go from the Memorial Cup to Team Canada. How do you feel and what have you done, mentally, to keep yourself at a high level?)

I just try to keep my focus. I had a lot of travel, especially with Team Canada, but I want to make the club so I give it my all and I try to be ready every game.

(You seem very calm on the ice. What have you seen, in terms of the level of competition in the NHL and international games you've played in?)

Actually, I just try to play my game. At first here, I thought I wasn't quick enough but you have to be patient. This year I just felt comfortable and I just tried to be me and, like I said, just try to be focused every game.

(Is this your first time in Austria?)

Yes, actually.

(Have you had a chance to get out and do anything?)

Not really. I guess tonight we'll have a little bit of fun.

Gotta hand it to the kid. Seems like the whole package. Dying to know who starts in goal Saturday.

There are two reasons for Bernier starting in goal for the Kings, one good, one bad. The good one is that he has played so brilliantly that they can't keep him out. The bad one is they start him cause all the alternaives suck. I'm afraid we are closer to the second reason and that could be disasterous. But I also hope he runs with the opportunity. Good on him.
