I'll attach the release below, but it's Rob Blake as captain, and Scott Thornton, Lubomir Visnovsky and Michael Cammalleri as assistant captains.

No Derek Armstrong. Fascinating...

KINGS ANNOUNCE TEAM CAPTAINS

FOR 2007-08 SEASON

LOS ANGELES – Los Angeles Kings defenseman Rob Blake will serve as Kings captain for the 2007-08 season, Kings head coach Marc Crawford announced from London. Joining left wing Scott Thornton as assistant captains are defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky and left wing Michael Cammalleri.

“Rob and these players have the professionalism, drive and intensity that will be necessary for the Kings to keep improving in a very competitive NHL,” said Crawford from London.

Blake, 37, previously served as Kings captain from 1996-01 and as a Kings assistant captain during the 2006-07 season. The 6-4, 225-pound native of Simcoe, Ontario, who will open his 18th NHL season ranked first in career goals (214), seventh in career assists (457) and fourth in career points (671) among active defensemen in the NHL, is a two-time winner of the club’s Most Valuable Player award and six times during his career he has been recognized as the Kings Outstanding Defenseman. Blake is also a two-time recipient of the Kings Community Service award, and a past winner of both the club’s Most Popular Player award and Most Inspirational Player award.

Blake, a Stanley Cup Champion with Colorado in 2001, is also a past winner of the Norris Trophy as he was voted the NHL’s top defenseman as a King in 1998. He also was a finalist for the same award in 2000. In addition, Blake was a First Team All-Star in 1998 and a Second Team All-Star in 2000, 2001 and 2002. The blue-liner has also skated in the NHL’s annual All-Star Game seven times (twice as a starter), and he was named to the NHL’s All-Rookie Team in 1991.

Thornton, 36, is in his second season with the Kings and 17th in the NHL, having previously played for San Jose, Dallas, Montreal, Edmonton and Toronto. The 6-3, 220-pound native of London, Ontario, served as a Kings assistant captain in 2006-07, and he was San Jose’s nominee for the Kings Clancy Memorial Trophy, an award given annually to the NHL player who best exemplifies leadership qualities both on and off the ice, in 2005-06.

Visnovsky, 31, is in his seventh season with the Kings and the NHL. The 5-10, 188-pound native of Topolcany, Slovakia, represented the Kings in the NHL’s annual All-Star Game and set a career high with 18 goals last season while leading all Kings defensemen in scoring for a second consecutive season. Visnovsky, a member of the NHL’s All-Rookie Team in 2000-01, has won several team awards during his Kings career including the club’s Most Valuable Player award, the Best Newcomer award and the Leading Scorer award. He is also a three-time winner of the club’s Outstanding Defenseman award.

Cammalleri, 25, is in his fifth season with the Kings and the NHL. The 5-9, 185-pound native of Richmond Hill, Ontario, set career highs in goals (34), power play goals (16), game-winning goals (5), assists (46) and points (80) while leading the Kings in scoring for the 2006-07 season. Thanks to his breakout season, Cammalleri was also named the club’s Most Valuable Player last season.

The Kings’ 2007-08 regular season opener is set for tomorrow at the O2 Arena in London with the game against the Ducks scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. (PT). The game will be broadcast on FSN Prime Ticket, on KTLK AM 1150 and on the Kings Radio Network.

The Kings and Ducks then face-off against each other again on Sunday at the O2 Arena with that game also scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. (PT). Sunday’s game will be broadcast on VERSUS, on KTLK AM 1150 and on the Kings Radio Network, and following both games hear special international editions of “Kings Talk,” the club’s popular post-game radio call-in show, with Kings radio broadcasters Nick Nickson and Daryl Evans taking questions and comments from fans.

Kopitar should of got the other A, not Thornton.

Eugene, What are you basing that on? Thornton is a vet who I'm sure is good "in the room".

Don't agree with all the selections.
Lubo & Cammy are ok.
But Blake's contract expires this year. And I certainly don't think Lombardi is going to make the same mistake twice by offering him $12 Million for two years.
Clearly Blake, past his prime, is not worth anywhere close to that (maybe 0ne million).
I would hate to see the Kings have to pick a new captain next year.
As for Scott Thornton, he's also in his las year.
Furthermore, during the preseason, I've noticed that he's the most ineffective player on the ice.
He's too old, too overweight, and too slow for the NEW NHL rules.
Crawford should have named Cammy as the Captain. He clearly has a future with this team.
Preissing, Lubo, and Armstrong as "A".
Does anyone agree.

No, I don't agree anthony. The only place those letters really matter is on the ice with the officials. C's and A's are the only ones that are allowed to chat up the refs about penalties and what not. Players, who are looking for leadership, could care less if you have a letter on your jersey. Blake and Thorton are vets with leadership qualities and the have a good rapport with the refs. That is why they get the letters on their jerseys.

Rich, if you get a chance to talk to MC when they get back to LA, I would love to hear why Armstrong wasn't chosen as one of the alternate captains.

I'm very happy to see Lubo & Cammy get A's. Not so much for Thornton, still a bad signing.

Blake captain = make me sick! Reading the bio of Blake is a laugh. The highlights of his career they mention happened years ago, perfectly demonstrating that he past his prime and the captaincy should go to someone younger.

What a snub to Armstrong! Even worse since he had the "A" in pre-season. I guess the coaches have had their eyes and ears closed. Army has shown a lot of leadership out there both before and during camp.

MightyMike said:

Agree with the selections but would have exchanged Armstrong for Lubo. Not that i don't think Lubo does not deserve it but i think Armstrong may have the advantage of his first language beeing english and his team first attitude certainly does not harm his position.

Scar said:

I love Lubo as much as the next person but, has he even learned English yet?

Dustin said:

Unless I am mistaken, the team votes for their own captains... therefore making it hilarious that you guys think it should be other people.

Rich Hammond said:

Dustin...some teams vote, but I'm fairly certain that the Kings' coaching staff still picks the captains. I can check on this later this week.

patrick said:

wow. im surprised at the venom here for blake with the C. he's the most appropriate person for it. I suspect he will sign another 1 year deal next year.

im actually surprised Lubo got an A considering his english still isnt that good and he's generally a soft spoken guy who seems to prefer to stay out of any spotlight whatsoever.

Kopitar has no business wearing a letter in his sophmore year. his only business is his game. not the diplomacy that comes with wearing a letter.

ChilledAgua said:

He doesn't even qualify to be the captain of "The Captain & Tennille..."

mrkuyukot said:

I don't have so much problem w/ Blake getting the C. Lubo on the other hand...Patrick is right, he seems to prefer to stay out of the spotlight. Like I've posted before, I'm not much of a fan of Armstrong, but he seems to show much more leadership than Lubo. Happy to see Cammy w/ the A though.

Dave K. said:

Lubo was definitely a surprise pick. At the news conference in London where the captain and alternates were announced (check out the video clip on the Kings' website), Crawford indicated that Lubo is the first-ever Slovenian to wear an "A". That could be one reason for the decision, but I'd have to speculate that several other factors may have gone into it: 1) Lubo is now a bonafide veteran and no longer a youngster in the league, 2) he has put up some great numbers lately, especially last year, 3) it's a way for Crawford to push him into an even higher echelon, and 4) although Lubo's English language skills may be limited, maybe Crow was looking for someone to take on the role of "leadership by example" since the more vocal style of leadership is already well represented on the team. That would be my guess.

Eric K said:

I like the Cammo pick, and like it or not, we need a couple younger guys to take the leadership role over the next couple of years.

but no Army? At the main team practice during camp, he was the one running all the drills and sets. a little weird to me...
