Kings win 3-2 in a shootout
Bernier goes the whole way and makes 24 saves. It's getting hard to deny that Bernier is the team's best goaltender, 19-year-old or not. Even though I'm in Los Angeles, I'll get the final two cuts before the team leaves for Europe up as soon as I can find out.

LOS - JONATHAN BERNIER
Bernier went the distance (24 saves) and stopped both shots in the shootout. Kopitar and Brown scored goals, Cammalleri and Brown scored in the shootout to win it.
Sorry for the initial confusion. I got my information from a weird place...you know, the Kings' official web site, which has them losing tonight's game. Lovely.
Here's the AP story...
LAS VEGAS (AP) -Los Angeles rookie Jonathan Bernier stopped both shots he faced in a shootout, and Michael Cammalleri and Dustin Brown scored on their attempts to give the Kings a 3-2 exhibition victory over Colorado on Saturday night.
Los Angeles (3-2) trailed 2-1 entering the third period at the Grand Garden Arena inside the MGM, but Brown tied it off an assist from Anze Kopitar at the 13:19 mark. The Kings killed an Avalanche a two-man advantage later in the period to force overtime.
Bernier, a rookie fighting for a roster spot, stopped two close-range shot in overtime and finished with 24 saves.
Colorado (3-1) led 1-0 after the first period on Tyler Arnason's goal at 12:52.
Kopitar tied it 37 seconds into the second period, but Colorado retook the lead at the 1:23 mark on Paul Stastny's goal.
It was the final exhibition match for the Kings, who open the regular season next Saturday in London against defending Stanley Cup champion Anaheim.
Rich, I saw the same thing. In fact. They had it posted that the Kings lost the game 2-1. I start chating at HF Boards and they are talking about Dustin scoring the tieing goal. I thought they all went nuts!
Haha, Ernest, the same exact thing happened to me. NHL.com did report it as a 2-1 final.
Man o man would I have loved to see this game with the 19 year old in the nets. I listened to it and it sounded like the crowd went crazy when he stopped Sakic on a good shot and stoned two others, came up big near the end of the 2nd period and then blanked them in the shootout. I know one game does not make an NHL goaltender but it was really sweet to see the Kings have someone finally give them a chance to win one. I'm not going to hold my breath because I think he's good enough to stay. Great job Jon.
Bernier was great,, Brown tied it up going to shootout
Weiman in goal whole gane for co,, He was very good also.
Bernier for kings the whole game, Avs had 29 shots and Kings 26 shots after regulation
Cammy up first goal on backhand,, great shot
Hensick for co stopped by bernier on forehan
Kopitar stopped ,, too many deaks
Hlinka for avs stopped forehand
Brownie for win YES on a good shot
Dustin played great, Murray was all over the place,, as was Calder.
Phil Anschutz and his wife were @ the game and left after 2nd intermission
Bernier deserved 2nd star,, Brown 1st and probably Weiman 3rd
Bernier completely shut the door after the 2nd Lanche goal. He is ready, no question, I just don't know if this defense corps is ready to support a young goalie. They left him out to dry all night and he bailed them out.
Johnson looked really good. At one point they did a set play on a 4-on-4 faceoff...Handzus lined up to take the draw, Jack came over and tapped him, Jack took the draw (!) and won it out of our zone, which led to 2 quick passes and an odd man rush!! WTF? It was great.
Murray was all over the place, but not in a good way. Zeiler had a lot more mojo tonight. This was my fourth Frozen Fury, and the crowd gets drunker every time!
Bernie is ready to keep winning games. How is he going to respond to the first game he loses 5-1? Thats the important thing.
RC, if he is really ready and on his way to being an NHL goaltender then if he has an off night he'll do what all really good NHL tenders do, shrug it off, improve on a mistake he might have made and go on. The really good ones don't linger on what went behind them, they only look at what is coming next. Didn't he play well for them, it's been a long time since the Kings had a goaltending night like last night. BTW RC, you already knew what I was saying.
"Bernier deserved 2nd star,, Brown 1st and probably Weiman 3rd"
That's funny, because Bernie actually got 1st star from the media. Looked a little embarassed taking a bow, too! :D
Great performance, BTW. Bernie looked really good late in the game. I can see why Crawford's having problems deciding.
Other notes from the game:
*Very loud, very fun Vegas crowd.
*Brady Murray was all over the place. Quick guy, glad that he made the team.
*Frolov rode the back of a zamboni during the second intermission, waving to the fans.
*Kopitar looks like he's getting back into regular season mode. He really looked dominant at times.
*20 Kings fans for every Avs fan seemed to be the average.
*Drunk Kings fans love a guy in a Manchester jersey.
Hey Rich, it's okay. I saw the score on the Kings site 3-2 for Colorado as well. It's good to know that we get support from our own teams official website.
The final cuts are:
Harrold
Giuliano (who has to go through waivers)
Bernier got 1st star, good for him. We bailed right after the buzzer as
that concourse has to be the worst designed one ever. I can't believe it passed fire code inspection.
Seemed to be a lot less Colorado Fans than in years past. But in our section there where a lot.
"We bailed right after the buzzer as
that concourse has to be the worst designed one ever."
Good idea. I think it took us almost 30 minutes to finally get clear of the crowd.
