Lewis interview

Here's the interview with Trevor Lewis, another player who should get a long look during training camp. Keep an eye out for the video crasher who accidentally walks through the shot...oops. Lewis is another real nice guy. He said he got to spend a good portion of his summer at home in Utah. A Utah native in the NHL? Why not?

Rich -- you are the very best! Thanks for the great interviews! I hope everyone at the Daily News how much this stuff is being viewed. Since it's embeded on LGKs, I'm sure you're not getting the number of hits to your site as usual. We need you!!

were you standing to the left oris he just shy?

Yeah, I was standing next to him. Used a tripod today. Guys seem more comfortable if they can look at you when you're talking to them, rather than looking at you behind a camera. Plus the shot is more steady.

Funny thing is, Blake is such a pro that he just kept eye contact with the camera the whole time. Afterward I told him he had a future in broadcasting.

I would prefer that people didn't embed the videos on the message boards. Obviously I made them YouTube videos, so I have no justification to complain about what people do with them, but it does detract from the site and it's counterproductive in terms of generating hits.

Rich, great improvement on the interviews by using a tripod. It frees you to ask questions rather than run the camera. Cool. Using the camera mic will be problematic at times due to room noise, which the mic will pickup too. Finding a quiet place (if there is one) is one solution along with bringing the camera a little closer so the mic picks up the player's voice. But there's not always room to get closer. Understood. A lavalier mic or hand held mic (just have them hold it) will bring better audio. Or replace the camera mic with a good "shotgun" mic will improve audio tremendously. But the interviews are sure getting good source material from these guys. Thanks. You're right, though, in that the players prefer talking to you, the reporter, off camera rather than behind camera. Blake certainly was an interview pro, huh? Great eye contact, understood your questions as you were asking them, good delivery in sound byte format. He's been asked thousands of questions and knows the routine. Simmonds on the other hand was shy with a soft voice. Rather pure and low key. Interesting contrast between the two. Keep up the GREAT work, Rich!

Rich, I know I've never posted before, but I've been reading this blog for quite a while now. For a die hard Kings fan that lives in Las Vegas, all I can say is thank you, a big big thank you to all that you do. I myself appreciate it a ton, and I'm sure I'm not alone.
