Are you making a statement?
Tonight's announced attendance at Staples Center was 14,076. That's the lowest announced attendance for a Kings home game since a Kings-Ducks game on Oct. 18, 2001, drew 13,916 fans.

There is also that everything is burning thing.
if there were 11,000 people in the seats I would be surprised. The PR sections were as empty as ever, but the lower bowl had huge pockets of ghost town-ness.
Shame. Honestly, that was the best game the Kings have played in 3 seasons.
I think a lot of people are fed up w/ the effort put out by the Kings earlier in the season. That and the whole bad religion - Los Angeles is Burning thing
Interesting topic. I think the fires had something to do with the lack of fans in the stands as Gaollum mentioned above.
The other being the fact that the Pred's aren't playing their best hockey right now.
As far as the fans "making a statment" I think if this year the team doesn't show up for 60 minutes a night like they did against the Pred's we'll see more empty seats at staples.
In the past it's been the lack of talent or lots of injuries thats hurt the team but at least they showed up most nights. This year with the exceptions of the last 2 or so games it's been the lack of heart.
Lets just hope the team is turning things around and not a case of two bad teams laying down and handing them the 2 points.
True Goallum, but the Kings also count every ticket that they distribute as part of their ``paid attendance.'' So even if people don't show, they're still counted.
Yeah, Rich, true. I think it's just a combination of a bunch of things. But you know what, if they keep playing well and winning, before you know it, we'll be back to almost full to full capacity. It's been slow the first couple of months of the regular season (other than marquee match-ups) for the last couple of seasons. Maybe not this slow, but that's where the other factors like fires come in, and that's what I meant by my intial comment.
Yes, definitely a combination of factors.
Ummm maybe because half of LA i son fire?
"Lets just hope the team is turning things around and not a case of two bad teams laying down and handing them the 2 points."
The Wild, Canucks, and Flames are not bad teams. I don't think the Flames -- and to a lesser extent the Canucks -- are great teams but they're playoff contenders for sure. We beat the Wild (who in my opinion are the best team in the West right now), hung with the Flames, and beat the Canucks. Then we demolished a bad team like a good team should.
I'm frankly unimpressed ... as far as a statement... I gave away my tickets tonight ... that had nothing to do with fire and everything to do with my UTTER BOREDOM watching the kings miss passes and hand over the puck as if to say...here ya go...you need those points more than i...
I bought season tickets this year like the past cuz I love the brand ... but after sitting thru the first several games of the season watching the kings play like school children, i'll be god damned if AEG gets another CENT from me in the form of parking or concessions
they string together a few good wins against NON SLUMPING teams and maybe i'll show up and buy a beer ...
yes I'm making a statement

I do like the ability to get out of the parking lots and home faster on nights like last. However if the Kings only get 14K a night then I guess beer will cost $25 and seats about $200 next year so that AEG can make big bucks!
Win, lose, or draw it's still hockey that isn't Ducks!
How about the Kings really attempting to bond more with the fans? How about coming out to the ice at the end of the game to get some cheers when they win? About playing an extra 2 minutes after the game and skating more than 2 feet when your name is called for one of the stars of the game?
Speaking of parking lots. Blame the Nokia Theatre, but parking prices have DOUBLED since last season. The lot next to the Hotel Figueroa was 10 last year, 15 for the first few games this year and now 20. Even the lots further away have raised their prices. Annoying.
by the way, there was a fight in the stands near the glass. I've never seen a fight during game play. What kind of statement is that?
Anyone see the guy try to run away from the redcoats and the fans pulled him back down? Crazy.
uh, i had to work.
Thanks again to Matt George for the tickets to last night's game. The game was incredible and the fight in the stands was just below section 219 at the end of the second period. Some genious Nashville fan stood up and started cheering for the lame excuse of a hockey club after they were down 4-0. After an array of Boos, Peanut throwing and even someone spitting on him, things seemed to settle down.Although, next thing you know he was down by the glass getting his face smashed in repeatedly by a guy half his size. After getting up with a ripped shirt and bloody face he tried to run from the red coats and was pulled back down forcefully by the fans. Wow, can you say Raiders Game.
Anyway, it was a great game to watch and I'm happy to see the boys finally starting to come together and gel. I thought the second line put in a strong showing last night, and are beginning to establish themselves as a strong scoring unit. I was also concerned about Johnson last night after he dissapeared. Glad to know it is only a Charlie Horse. Lastly, Zeiler's hit leading up to the fight was sweet. Let's keep getting stronger and building on these wins. GO KINGS!
fires and crappy play withstanding, i can't afford to go.
I am willing to admit to not going to a game since the Murray era. The biggest reason being that the Kings failed to show up for games. If the Kings played hard for the entire game I would be willing to pay to see them. The taking a period off during a game does not make me want to spend around $100 ($20 parking, $20 snacks & $50+ tickets) to see them play in person. They really need someone like Messier to kick some booty if guys are slacking and I think maybe they found that in Cammy when he was given the A and Cammy seems like a very driven guy and wont put up with guys not pulling their own weight on the team. Hopefully they do turn the corner and I will go to some games near the end of the season.
Here is an idea to AEG to get more people to the games on weekdays...Lower the prices.
Vahe,
If AEG did that, how would you expect them to pay for the 5 games that David Beckham played in this season????
I miss the Fabulous Forum.
Now that was a barn for hockey!
I used to work at the forum. Back in the Broad Street Bullies days, we would have 10 or so fights during play. Usually they were up in the "cheap seats" - $5 for Colonade. Most of the "expensive" $10 seats were season seat holders ($4000 a year for 2 seats including parking).
Stand fights are not unheard of, but very unusual in our litiguous society.
Let's be honest, the team on the ice did nothing to deserve the over 17k they drew for 3 seasons (02-03, 03-04, 05-06). That was the Dave Taylor die hard section, family nights, the 12 game mini plans & sheer loyalty from the most diehard fans in So Cal that made that possible.
I knew they were in trouble when the Red Wing game had Staples at about 80%, if the games biggest bandwagon can't fill a stadium on the road during the weekend, that home team is in trouble. But I wouldn't hit the panic button until after New Years.
I also gotta to say I'm a bit shocked at what people spend when they go to games, don't complain if you can't find the good seats for under $35, the $7 parking & get your stomach filled before or after the game for half as much. That's your fault, not AEG. Stand up to the enablers or it's gonna be a painful life. I went to 14 games last year in decent seats (every single one non discounted) & spent less than $45 on everything (parking, ticket, bottle of h2o) & went to 1 game this season in $54 seats that someone else picked out & they sucked.
AEG doesn't care about tickets counted at the door; the stat that matters most to them is tickets sold. Marc Nathan's estimate of 11,000 is slightly generous I think. There couldn't have been more than 9,000 in their seats for the opening faceoff. It looked like the pre-game skate.
This is the best time to see the Kings if prices are too expensive for your budget. There are deals GALORE to be had on tickets, people. I scored a pair for $30 and sat above Bob and Jim. Enjoy em while you can; the Kings bandwagon won't be grounded much longer at this rate.
On Damen's post:
On tix, DieHards are paying $12/game and the view is still pretty good from up here.
As for parking, there are some lots a few blocks out from Staples that charge $6 most nights and up to $10 on weekends/large event nights. Plus, I sometimes circle the immediate vicinity and get a 50/50 chance of finding street parking, which is free after 6 during the week. It all depends on putting a little extra effort in finding parking.
As for the concessions, you know what you are getting into whenever you go to a sporting event nowadays. I have given up hope that prices will ever come down, but I would like to think that for a $10.50 beer, I wouldn't have to wait 15 minutes. And, why is the only place you can get (relative) quick service at the indoor McD's?
Anyway, at $12-$22.50 per game, not bad to see these group of kids and feisty(or rickety or useless, you choose) group of vets start to emerge as a contender and playoff team, so long as they continue what they have been doing the past few games.
when the kings win 3 in a row i'll buy some tickets =p
As a kings fan way up here in Manitoba, Canada. I am extremely jealous for those of you who have the option to buy a ticket. The only way to actually see a Kings game up here is to buy a specialty cable package. Oh well one day I'll get down to see a game.
Good point 619Kingsfan
I can't make mid-week games cuz of work, but on the weekend games I'll get tix from ppl that cant go, usually cheaper than face value and eat on the way to the game. I dont buy concessions on principal alone. 5 bucks for a bottle of water?!, no thanks. And I will never again use Ticketmaster.
I bought a 6 game icepack last season w/ 3 of my buddies. I and 2 of my buddies can't afford it this season, 1 guy just didn't want to spend money on the Kings due to how they played last year.
When the Kings make the playoffs, I'll buy tickets.
Thats what Duck fans do every year. It's called being a fair weather fan or bandwagon fan. If you don't mind being a fair weather fan then thats fine. I kinda think you won't enjoy it as much when the team is doing well and winning however.
