Aubin likely to start

at goal tomorrow in Calgary ...

``I'm going to probably come back with J-S,'' Crawford said. ``I'll make my decision tomorrow on that, maybe tonight. But I think he played well last night. Let's see if we can get him on a little bit of a roll. He's been kind of a streaky player throughout his career. I know, in Toronto, the coaching staff said when he gets on a little bit of a roll, he's the kind of guy who plays with a little edge to his game in the net.''

Aubin quotes ...
On getting another start: ``Whatever he decides, I'm ready for it -- either Calgary or Vancouver, it doesn't matter. The most important thing for me is to focus and do what I do best, which is to be calm in there and show my teammates I'm reliable.''

On last night's game: I thought, for not playing in a month, I handled it pretty well, except on the third goal. I should have had that.''

On the bad exchange behind the net that led to a second-period goal: ``It was supposed to be icing and then they waived it. I wanted to put it in the corner but it spun on my stick and went to the backside of Tommy (Preissing) instead of the foreside. So unless he would have wheeled it, I don't think there was much he could do. We just got a bad bounce there.''

On his diving, glove save in the second period: ``It was a power play and they were making a lot of cross passes. I lost my head so I stayed up. I was beat pretty much but I followed it and he shot it in the right place. If he shoots it low, he might have scored.''

On the shootout: ``I think our players the moves I've seen so far this year in shootouts, are pretty much the best I've ever seen (on teams he's been on). Our guys have incredible moves and it gives us the edge in shootouts.''

I'm worried, he leaves alot of juicy rebounds.
He better not leave too many of those against the likes of Jerome Iginla.

I wish him and the team the best.

He deserves another start since he won, but was that "great" save in the 2nd really all that impressive?

I know it's the Kings and we have to cringe everytime there is a shot on goal, but Belanger was hurting and he shot that puck right into Aubin's glove.

I think that save is being blown out of proportion, but I am glad he is getting another start.

There are a few things I'd like to say about J-S but there is neither time nor space. But I will say this, yesss he got a break on the Belanger shot, but dammit don't any of OUR goal tenders deserve to get some breaks also. If Backstrom watches the puck instead of Kopi, he very well could have made the stop. We use to call goals like that "Juniors" so it's not something new.

Does it seem that Crawford is going out of his way NOT to play LaBarbera?

dan H. said:

No...I think they'll get equal time but if you're slumping and get a great game out of a lineup...you stick with it.

Deelo said:

I like Aubin. Plus, the organization has a good history of ex-Toronto netminders.

Felix Potvin anyone?

David said:

I agree with Keith's comments above. Gee, do you think it has anything to do with Crawford's beloved DAN CLOUTIER?

God forbid that Jason LaBarbera should earn the Kings number one Goalie spot and give the team back there.

Crawford and Lombardi made a huge mistake in giving Cloutier a substantial contract extension last year, even before he played a single regular season game!

Marc and Dean must be praying to Saint Jude right now that Cloutier will regain his previous form, where he performed well in the regular season and then collapsed in the playoffs for Vancouver. Not bloody likely. Apparently we Kings Fans will have to suffer through another debilitating season because Marc & Dean cannot admit that they made a mistake with Cloutier. Classy move Guys! Luc Robitaille, where are you?

ian said:

david i dont know where you've been but dean and marc have both admitted to the mistake that was cloutier.. i think him being in manchester further 2nd's that...

also if you really think labs is the one to carry this team then you sir are smoking crack. dont get me wrong i like labs but from the games hes played so far this season it doesnt take a rocket scientist to see that labs is not the man for a "#1 Spot", either is aubin or cloutier, there will not be a #1 goalie this season so stop your crying

David said:

Ian, I sir do not smoke anything!! I'm simply pointing out that Crawford and Lombardi are holding out hope that Cloutier can return to his previous form, thereby justifying the contract extension he received last year. It's curious that LaBarbera has only started two out of seven games this year, when the Kings were so worried about losing him in the re-entry draft last January with their goaltending debacle.

Eric K said:

...and aubin has started one game. two counting tomorrow.

keith and david, it's not because crawford went out of his way to bench labarbera. it's because he went out of his way to play bernier... understandable when we only had him for a limited time and wanted to give him some necessary experience. especially since it appears that was the plan the entire time, and the right one at that.

and yeah, the faith in cloutier was wrong, but he admitted it already. sorry dude, but i'm not smelling a conspiracy theory here.

Moot point... If Cloutier plays well enough to be called up, he will be claimed on re-entry waivers. Who wouldn't pick up a goalie who is playing well for $1.55 million prorated? That's a freakin' bargain in this market. Cloutier won't play in L.A. this year. Hopefully, he won't play for L.A. ever again.

AJ said:

Cloutier will not be claimed on re-entry. There's no way someone is goin to pick up the league worst GAA and SV% for 2 years at $1.55 mil. We signed Aubin at a 3rd of the price for only one year and he was better then Cloutier on both accounts. Cloutier is barely worth a league minimum 1 year contract. Only hope the guy can rebound and help us, cause Lord knows we need the help...

On a lighter note, I agree with what Aubin said at the end there. Our guys really DO have some sweet moves in the shootout. I wouldn't mind every game going into a SO, I have that much faith in our skilled forwards.
