Bernier sent down

| | Comments (27) |

Jonathan Bernier was sent back to juniors this morning. Jean-Sebastien Aubin was activated from the injured list. Final tally for Bernier was a 1-3 record with 16 goals allowed.

``It's not an indictment on his play, it's more of a reflection of where the team is at right now,'' coach Marc Crawford said. ``We always are concerned about the long-term development of all our players and, right now, the decision has been that (returning to juniors) probably is the environment that is conducive to his long-term development. He's going to be a great goalie. He is a great goalie. He's played his heart out here and he has not been at fault for how we've played. As a matter of fact, I think he's played pretty good.''

Can he be brought back this season or no?

no

Good, get him away from this debacle of a team and any bad influences that may come from it.

This makes me sad, I understand the reasoning, but I don't like it.

Ernest said:

Just curious... why he cannot come back. Once Lewiston is done, cant he come back up? That is the point they ma want him to play more.

Now, if only the head coach does not appear at the next practice or game, then we have something going positive here.

Maybe they should have sent the players that weren't playing up to par, down to Manchester instead. Help build THEIR confidence. Or maybe we should send Crow down to coach the Monarchs, and help him find his coaching ability down there.

Good it's for the best. I watched that kid play very well with a god awful defense in front of him. There's no reason to subject him to that right now. We got a glimpse of what he can do and that bodes well for the future. For right now however it's looking like another long season.

pr0cess said:

Im sure its best for him at this point, but a part of me thinks the team let him down. If the team was better i think it could have been something special this year for him

Vahe said:

Best of luck to JB, not his fault the Kings have a awful defense

This is the right move.

hipcheck said:

The Right Move for sure. Its obvious that Bernier is going to be a very good if not great goalie but this isn't the roster to let him cut his teeth with. Now if Bernier were on New Jersey or Montreal or some other defensive oriented team he would excel and we may have talked him as a Calder candidate.

Paul said:

Hate to say it, but I expected this. The kid is a great young goalie, and he has a bright future ahead of him. But THIS was not the place for him this season.

And for the record, as far as I understand how all this works, he cannot be called back until the Lewiston season is over.

Next year, if he or the team aren't ready for him to be the everyday #1, he can play in Manchester as he'll be 20 years old.

I read a rumor that the Bruins may waive Manny Fernandez. Should the Kings look to get him if he is waived?

With Bernier gone, who's #1 now? Certainly not Labs. So it's gotta be Aubin, or Cloutier, or....?

let JB know we are behind him and will be waiting for his return next season!

One of the bright spots in our not too distant future ..that is unless DL has another brain fart and trades him for a washed up player on his last leg ... oh yeah! This year's squad already has most of those guys!

Go Cammy!
Go Anze!
Go JMFJ!
Go Brownie!
Go Sully!

Great so the guys who play hard/good get sent away and the vets can stick around and suck it up. Excellent lesson for Jonathan to learn about the Kings.

Good luck in Lewiston, JB! Too bad there were nothing but a bunch of pilons masquerading as defensemen in front of you!

Does anyone know if JB will still be eligible to play for Canada in the World Juniors this December?

This team and this staff has let this kid down and that is truly unacceptable especially for the caliber prospects we have to lead into the NHL this and the next upcoming season... How are we to entice these new prospects to stay in LA or to encourage new talent under our banner if we cannot even perform on the lowest level in the NHL...

This is truly a shame, and with all the building up Rob Blake has done for Bernier he sure did let this kid down. All they had to do was play an average game in front of the kid and he could have stayed... This is going to cost us dearly and hopefully the Kevin Lowe offer that is coming to Bernier isn't too high to match. I say give Blake's salary to the kid, he deserves it a lot more at this point.

It's the best thing for him, but I'm still disappointed. I guess no one can save this team this year.

ROFLMAO...this franchise is a joke

why wouldnt they play him for his 9 games and then send him down? wait, nevermind... i guess the experience couldnt really help him considering we get DESTROYED by every opponent. or maybe we just couldnt afford him because beer prices were only raised 50 cents and not a dollar in the off season?

can we just recall Dan "The Ghost" Cloutier already so we actually have an excuse??

Tito Jackson said:

Ahh, the team couldn't play up to the kids level so they had to send him away.

petey said:

People, this is the best thing for his development. In no way do you want a 19 year old kid playing behind a team that is doing nothing to help it's cause. He'll play a ton in juniors, and will gain a ton more experience with, more than likely, being Canada's #1 goalie at the World junior Championships.
Next year he'll come back even better, and that will be the time where he takes the #1 spot and runs with it. I'm sure he understands why he was sent down. It had nothing to due with the way he was playing.

Eric K said:

absolutely the right move. just from these six games, we know the Kings are not a Cup contender. so why subject Bernier to more defensive letdowns? can't wait for him to take the top job next year, but there is no reason for him to stay now.

oh, and i believe labarbera and aubin may not be studs, but they can play respectably and hold the fort for now... if the D can regain some teeth. not a given by any means, but...

this isn't a lost season. we'll get a good draft pick!

I just feel sorry for the guy when he was out there really giving it his all, when the rest of the team wasn't. I'm looking forward to your ph. conversation with DL tonite Rich and I'm hoping that you pin him down with some good questions.

gggbdfan said:

Oh good, he was just sent down, I thought from Rich's earlier post that JB threw up his hands and decided to quit playing hockey altogether, after playing with this defense!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

paincorp said:

If I'm JB, I'm pissed at Crow for putting a group in front of me who deserves to be sent down more than me.

Reasoning...fine. The only reason we send JB down IMHO is because this management team doesn't have the balls to discipline the REAL problems on this team.

We're doing the kid a favor, sure. His goal was to be in the NHL THIS YEAR, not next. If the kid wants to be in the NHL, we should accomodate if he's got the skills. Screw all the BS about 'hurting this kids confidence'. That should be up to Bernier, not the fans or management. If he can handle it, let him. I'm willing to let him try. I just hope he realizes how much the fans dig him and want this kid between the pipes next year.

Overthinking has reached a new high in this organ-eye-zation.

Why the F*** are you all blaming Crawford? There's only two places to put blame:
1. The Personel
2. The person who brought in the personel...(uhh...DL)

This a disappointing, sad day for LA. The right move, yes. JB gave it his all, poor defense let him down. He played well; don't let his GAA influence your opinions on JB. This kid is going to be a great goalie. He's had practically nothing but stiffs playing in front of him. I doubt very seriously if Patrick Roy could have stopped the pucks JB has faced this season; he's already seen more rubber than a dead skunk on the Trans-Canada Highway. Best of luck JB in Lewiston and see you back, soon hopefully. And thanx for all you tried to do for the Kings and LA.
