Brown's contract

It's a six-year, $19.05-million extension. That's $3.175 million per season.

Money-wise, a good deal for the Kings. Length-wise, a good deal for Brown. He has a new wife and a child on the way, so I'm sure that stability is a big issue for Brown these days.

FANTASTIC contract! 6 years, I'm lovin it!

That's good for Brown, but now he'll be making more than Frolov and almost as much as Cammalleri...not sure how those guys will like it. I think that certainly Frolov is worth more than Brown...

Considering brent Burns just extended 4 years at 3.55 million this is definitely a STEAL.

Fro and Cammy will definitely get PAID at the end of their current contracts. It'll just be a matter of how much and whether it's by the Kings.

Cammy could get upwards of $8 mil a season on the open market. Teams are paying that much. Will he take a hometown discount in the $6-$7 range? I would be surprised if he were anywhere other than LA in two years.

Fro's another story altogether. What will it take to keep him here? Is he happy in LA? Does it matter?

I think Cammi and Frolov both know their money is coming (whether from the Kings or eventually another team). Dustin Brown isn't getting the raise until next year, right?

Absolute steal

Michael said:

Compare Brown's salary this year and next year's? Do you mind spending a third of Blake's salary to keep Dustin around? I thought so. Good job, DL!

Phil said:

Outstanding... This sends the right message to the young players.

Chewy Rocky Horror said:

Congrats to Brown. He's making 1.8 mil now, right?

That's only a 1.325 mil cap hit for next year.

GO KINGS GO!

LB - Frolov's contract averages out to $2.9 million per season but every year of the contract his pay increases. He signed his contract for 5 years/$14.5 million and made $2 million in both 2005-06 and 2006-07, is making $3 million this season, will make $3.5 million in 2008-09 and $4 million in 2009-10.

If Cammalleri keeps his production skyrocketing the way it has been, he will be compensated for his performance sometime during this contract.

This contract is a steal compared to what some other RFAs received (Roy for example, 6 years/$24 million).

Good deal all around. 1/3 of the big line set. I like Dustin glad that he'll be around. Cammi and Fro will still be getting more money than him next season when it kicks in the way their deals are stuctured. So they have no reason to bitch.

GREAT news. six years of brown cost less than four years of dustin penner or three years of vanek? nice steal.

best hitter in the league

I think Dean had to do this to protect Brownie. So what happened to the Quacks won't be happening to us.

Makes a lot of sense Ed. I'm real happy for Brown. He deserves it. Hockey players should get the most pay among Pro athletes as far as I'm concerned.
You gotta wonder though how Cammy's thinking. I know, being a hockey player and all, he shouldn't have as much drama as NBA players but uh, you still gotta think about what he's thinking. He had to bargain for his 3+mil, and Brown gets it just like that. Hopefully DL fix this and locks Cammy for multiple years w/ a solid contract. Maybe I'm thinking too much, time to drown my brain w/ some alcohol.

Moondoggie said:

Way to go DL. Now, let's get Cammy and Fro lined up for some long term money and see where this team can really go...

This is a quote from the LA Times about how Brown has been better since Avery was traded : "Avery, an agitator in the dressing room, was known for riding some younger players."

Rich, while Avery was here did you hear any rumblings out of the locker room about that ? Or is this conjecture on the part of the Times.

Rich Hammond said:

I know fans love Avery because of the way he plays, but he was awful in the dressing room. Not just with young players either. Bluster and disrespect were common themes.
