Finding a place
Now that Alexander Frolov is healthy, it's time for him to find some consistent linemates. Frolov missed a week of practice time after he strained his groin at the end of training camp in El Segundo. He started out on a line with Derek Armstrong and Kyle Calder but also has spent some time with Michal Handzus and Ladislav Nagy. Considering that Frolov scored 35 goals last season, it would seem to be in the Kings' best interest to find him some consistent and productive linemates.
``I don't really mind (moving around),'' Frolov said. ``It's just good to get on a line that you feel comfortable in. It's just the beginning of the season. It's (Crawford's) job to find the right position for everyone.
``I always try to play well with anyone on my line. It's the coach's job to figure out the combinations and the lines. It's my job to just go out and play well. It just starts clicking when people start playing together. It's not who is the best player or worst player. It's just who you feel comfortable playing with.''

"what a waste to have this guy in the line up. He has done absolutely nothing for the team this whole season. Don't even get me started on how lousy this guy did last year. What a waste!!"
LOL...sorry,couldn't help it.
Someone...Anyone...quick, give me something negative to say about this topic so I can beat Anthony to it!!!
Anthony...dude...you're harsh'n my mellow.
Nice work Kingsfan27! You beat me to it!
Hey Rich,
I was at practice today also. I saw Lubo take a shot from Fro in the shin and it seemed to shake him up a bit. He shook it off eventually, but i wanted to see if it was serious enough for him to be looked at?
thanks in advance
I saw that too, but he was fine after practice and didn't require any treatment.
You guys are too harsh on Fro. He's a sneaky bastard. Y'all are knockin' him down now, I wouldn't be surprised if he becomes one of the top goal scorer this season.
His last comment -- "It's not who is the best player or worst player. It's just who you feel comfortable playing with." -- sounds like, maybe, he wants to continue playing with Army
For the last few seasons, the talk is always the same, "this year will be the year Frolov blossoms". He always shows potential. He's not a physical player and he always try's to score with his weak and slow backhand shot. Yeah he scored 35 goals last year but he has never been consistent. People talk about him being intelligent, guess he is smart enough to fool the coaching staff to keep him on. Like a few ex-kings he will only blossom when he is traded knowing he has one last chance to prove he is worth making the kind of money he thinks he deserves. Robert Lang and Glen Murray come to mind.
I always liked Fro. Remember his 1st year when he has the king of the wraparounds? He has gotten a little better every year. I hope he continues to improve. I think he can hit 30+ goals again this year. My only issue is that he always seems to fade during the end of the season. I think he only got 1 goal in the last 15 games of last year and ditto the previous year.
PS. Any Kings fans in Dallas? I'm new to Dallas having moved from Portland and will be at the AAC on the 10th. If anyone wants to meet up and have a beer and root for the Kings let me know.
Frolov may not be a supertar, but saying he's not good enough to be on the roster is taking it too far. Having guys that can score 35+ goals on the second and third line is key to any team that wants to win games. Great depth should never be overlooked, I can't think of any championship teams that won without it.
I think there are a few postings that aren't very accurate when it comes to Frolov. The guy makes so many plays over the whole sheet of ice, he isn't one-dimensional at all yet still chips in 35 goals. For sure he can improve and should, especially consistency-wise but to bag on him as if he's a failure somehow is sheer ignorance. Unless your name is "anthony" of course...;)
I would stop short of comparing him to Lang or Murray. Those were guys who completely loafed it. Frolov has already blossomed with 35 goals, the guy is the most underrated passer on the team, and furthermore he's been injured, so give it at least until mid season before you give up on him. The lesson of Murray, Lang, Perrault, Larry Murphy, etc. is that it's the organization's responsibility to put the puzzle pieces in the right slots. Let's hope they do. And as far as the "kind of money he thinks he deserves", what exactly would you know about that? The guy has probably the most reasonable contract on the whole team right now.
One last thought for all the panic buttoners...it's only October 5. On a good team, different guys are going to carry the load at different times. All 12 forwards and all 6 defenseman are not going to score in every game. Over the course of the season good players will get theirs. Luc Robitaille comes to mind.
I know this is not going to be the most popular of opinions, but..........I am not so sure that Frolov will ever be that guy that we all keep thinking he will be. Of course, he has not had a very good team to play with in the last few years. That being said, if he doesn't improve upon the solid performance that he had last year, with our team being much improved, I am not so sure that we shouldn't trade him for either a goalie, (if the kid gets sent down for what ever reason) a stong winger, or a strong defenseman.
As I look around the league I see players like Thornton from San Jose or Volchenkov from Ottawa, who not only play their respected positions with great talent and effectiveness, but also have a physical presence that help them stay physically prepare for every game in the long and treacherous season and into to the even more physically demanding playoffs. Besides Brown, and to a lesser degree Thornton, we don't really have a physically dominating presence that can create plays because he can hold onto the puck that much longer to allow for someone to make a move for the front of the net, giving us more great scoring chances.
Frolov plays to much of a European style in my opinion.
I can't help but think that if he doesn't step up his game this season, maybe we shouldn't trade him?
This is an outrage, trade me right f'ing now!

wait just a second here now fro has had his weak moments but i would dare say he is a superstar in waiting he just has to get his mond off the poodie and onto playing hockey like we all know he can. I thisnk if he gets his head straight he's an easy 40+ goal scorer and consistently. he nees a mentor to bring him along some1 who can get him thinkin about his legacy as a hockey player like a shanahan or a modano. these guys dont just worry about what people say today they worry about what people will say years from now about their work ethic their quality of play and what they did for the team it's all about the TEAM. Take cammileri i think he finally gets it look for this guy to be a superstar stud. A top 10 goal getter in the next few years as he realizes how much he can affect his teamates play their production just by inspiring them with a never say die attitude and work ethic. That stuff is contageous just watch what happens this year. I also think that euros (european players) dont really care about anything except the do-ray-me as a rule (not all of them mind you)a particulalrly high dollar one comes to mind right now and he's not even playing in the nhl this year whats that tell you?
