Inside the box score (10/23)
The best 60-minute effort of the season for the Kings, albeit against a team that is struggling terribly.
-- Jason LaBarbera recorded his second NHL shutout, his first coming in the final game of the 2005-06 season. LaBarbera faced only 17 shots and got good defensive support, but he also didn't make any mistakes.
-- Michael Cammalleri has 10 goals in 10 games. Not much more needs to be said about that. He continues to put himself in position to score goals and seems to have a tremendous on-ice rapport with every teammate, whether it's Kopitar, Blake or Modry. Nobody can maintain this pace, but Cammalleri is quickly establishing himself as an elite scorer.
-- This win was big for the Kings, not just in terms of the number of goals scored but who scored them. For the Kings to get both Nagy and Visnovsky on the board tonight, that's huge. The first goal of the season is always the hardest one for a NHL player to score. Nagy entered the night with zero goals and four assists. He totaled one goal and two assists in tonight's game.
-- Rob Blake, who entered with two points in nine games, had two assists.
-- The Kings might have found something with the line of Nagy, O'Sullivan and Frolov. Those are three guys who have sort of been nomads so far this season, so perhaps it's fitting that they ended up together. Frolov finished with one goal and one assist.
-- The best player who didn't record a point tonight? Kyle Calder, who continues to impress with his gritty, selfless game. Calder played more than 16 minutes in tonight's game.
-- Dustin Brown recorded a game-high six shots on goal.
-- The Kings recorded a season-high 36 shots on goal, to Nashville's 17. The Kings had 21 giveaways and won only 38 percent of faceoffs, but who will remember that, right?
-- Still awaiting official word on Jack Johnson's injury. Preliminary reports, as a couple astute commenters have already said, is just a charley horse (quadriceps bruise).

Even though it was a dominating win it's the Give Aways and Face Off % that concerns me. The Predators had a couple of nice up ice rush scoring chances and couldn't convert them. A better team would have buried those chances.
ok, I'll start with the negatibve. Patrick O'Neal suxxxxx! I can not stand that tool. He practically called Cammy lucky in his interview and had to back peddle when Cammy called him out on it. Christine Nubla (comfortability??)is in the locker room and they cant get a JMFJ update? weak. Everything else was great.
Johnson has a charley horse.
Charlie Horse? I hope that's all it is.
Great win for the Kings but I find it a little hard to tell if they were that good or if Nashville is now that bad...? Cammi gets 2 goals and doesn't make the top 3 stars? Wtf?
Ian...the radio guys pick the three stars with a few minutes left in the game. Cammalleri's second goal came late, so they probably didn't have time to change the selections. Otherwise, I'm sure he would have been the second star, if not the first.
Wow, Ivanans and O'Sully tied with 1 goal a piece. Maybe we should put them both up on the first line with Kopitar?
Seriously, can y'all stop with the O'Sullivan love fest now?
Break up the Kings!!! Nice job everybody and as usual, great commentary on the game Rich. We seen to have found a second line. Nagy, Fro and Sully looked very, very good again. Calder gets the unsung hero award, hustling every shift, in fact the entire team played well the whole 60 minutes. Great effort by all, nice to see Babs get the shutout. Now lets get Dallas but good!
Oh ok, thnx Rich, I'll calm my outrage...;)
Props to the players. They are handling their business and it shows on the ice. I'm not so sure it's all about the 'System' though, I just don't see the juggling of lines we saw before and guys are having a chance to gel now. At this point, that's all I'm willing to give Crow credit for...and he had to be told dozens of times to do that.
Now that the team is playing defense and battling for every puck, Crow needs to motivate. The guys are on board the bus now, Crow needs to drive it.
Again, props to the team players for handling their business. Like LaBarbara said, they didn't lose a puck battle. All I saw was speed to the puck and great aggressiveness when problems arose. We finally saw it for 60 minutes. Take note boys: Every shift, every minute, every game, that kind of play will pay off. By the way, extra props to John Zeiler for really exemplifying that. For all the haters on John, back away from the bong. Q-tip is good (Did you see the hair in the Penalty box? WOW!)
Great game. We play like this against Dallas and we'll see another win.
Forgot to mention...Memo to Crow:
Empty quotes to give your players confidence makes you look like a dishonest LOSER:
on TSN.ca: "He played a strong game and moved the puck well behind the net".
The first part is true, but the second???? WERE YOU WATCHING THE GAME?!?! Jason flubbed about 4 or 5 behind the net. Bob Miller pointed it out at least twice during the night. Jason himself is aware of it. WHY GIVE FAKE PROPS CROW? These guys are pros! You're insulting the fans when you say stupid stuff like that. Tell it like it is. That's why most of us like hockey...it's a brutally HONEST sport.
C'mon....
Anybody remember when Blake managed to break up that 3 on 1 with apparent ease in the second period? Where the hell did THAT come from?
I thought the best player not to score a goal was O'sullivan. Dude had 3 shots on goal in the first that I counted and seemed to have some great chances. He's in the right spot and giving great effort. He's not getting rewarded yet but that line was equally as good if not better than the top line all night.
It's nice that they put them together and LEFT THEM TOGETHER!
imo Willsie played his best game as a king. He and calder were all over the ice. He created quite a few turn overs, and generated some real good scoring chances....btw i thought he was complete garbage last season, so its nice to see him stepping up.
Let's be careful not to go overboard after this win.
Yes, the Kings looked good, and LaBarbara getting a shutout is encouraging, but that was probably the worst performance by an "NHL" team I've ever seen.
Did anyone even tell Nashville they had a game last night? I could have shut them out last night.
Let's see how they do against better opposition. 10 of their next 15 are against Dallas, San Jose, and the Quackers.
Hey Paul Nashville looked about like the kings did for the beginning part of this season and pretty much all of last season.
funny nobody's mentioned calder, he's been huge in this game and the game against the canucks. if he gets a little more vocal and gets some points he'll *almost* be another deadmarsh.

yeah i was wondering the same thing. another great play was army's back check poke to the puck on that break away.
I think you're talking about Lubo's backcheck, yeah? What a play!
I'll agree with most here. . .Nashville isn't very good right now. Still, a win's a win, and if we can keep playing like that, we'll continue to pick up points.
A few things I'd've liked to have seen last night:
1) Zeiler really throwing some bombs. . .looks like he can, but didn't. Also like to see him get back to the crazy, hard-hitting guy he was last season. No truly massive hits this year, not that I've seen.
2) Willsie hitting the next with a shot. Any shot. Just one, please.
3) Army doing ANYTHING (other than skating around, taking penalties -- save for last night, obviously -- and doing absolutely nothing). Or maybe doing anything, other than play for the Kings. The guy's a career minor-leaguer for a reason. Sure, he's a nice guy, but if he's the 2nd-best "scoring center" on the team, we aren't going anywhere fast. We can do better, is all I'm saying.
Hey Rich and Matt, Fanatasic job covering the Kings, day in and day out. Question. What happened to Jack Johnson last night since I haven't heard anything other than a charlie horse. Can you fill us in on his condition? Thanx
Just a few quick observations...yes Nashville is struggling, but a good team has to beat (soundly) the struggling teams. Last night the Kings played like a good team, and dominated for 60 minutes. That consistent play has to carry over to the next game and beyond, but let's give credit where it's due for a solid performance laast night. Second, Calder may not have been big on the scoresheet, but he was a large factor with quality physical (and smart)play. That hard work won't go unnoticed by his teammates.
Third, while I won't give in to hyperbole and call it a turning point, Handzus' performance the other night when he blocked two shots on the same PK shift (the second one right after he was hobbled by the first block) was huge...look at the reception the players gave him when he limped back to the bench. That kind of selfless play resonates with everyone. We saw a bit of that Handzus shift in almost every player on the ice the rest of that game and all night against the Preds.
No one's predicting the Cup based on the last two games, but I started to see the signs of the Kings team Dean and Marc promised us.
