Virtual Kings
Playing NHL '08 last night since the paper doesn't let me travel. In the game, I get a letter from Alexander Frolov that I found fitting and amusing.
Dear (Me, the virtual GM),
This hasn’t been a good time for me recently and I know that my play has been slipping. Slipping bad. But I’ve been working hard with the coaches and putting in some extra hours, and I think you’re going to see a difference real soon. Just wanted you to know that I’m taking this seriously and won’t be happy until I’m back to my old self.
Cheers,
Alexander Frolov

That's funny, he's my top goal scorer right now.
Like a Chinese fortune cookie.
I think Frolov will come around soon, he really didn't have a preseason because of his injury.
Handzus and Blake seem to be walking wounded, I don't think either has recovered from their injuries or so their play dictates.
Oh, the irony...
Will the real Alex Frolov please stand up.
Matt,
That is hysterical! And it is so uncanny in regards to how it mirrors real life. Thanks for sharing that!!!
Dear Alexander,
Thank you for your letter. I wanted to be the first to tell you you're going to be traded! It might not be for a few months, so we hope you improve before then so we can get better value for you. So please continue to work those extra hours and I will do my best to continue to improve this team, because you sure aren't.
Cheers!
Your "virtual owner"
Dean Lombardi
I know EA tries really hard to get the game to be as real as possible, but Come on!! How cool is that!?!? Even a frickin video game character knows when it's struggling.
Thats funny, they've still got Brust and Fukufuji on the rosters. I got a letter from Brust unhappy with playing time (battling with Clouts in AHL) and demanding to be traded. I said "Don't let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya!"
Dear Virtual Lombardi (and armchair GMs of Kings nation),
We're prepared to offer you a combination of picks and prospects in exchange for your sub-3-mil-for-the-next-three-years 25-year-old LW that's got four points in his last three games despite coming off an injury and not yet having a consistent set of linemates.
Love,

"and I think you’re going to see a difference real soon. Just wanted you to know that I’m taking this seriously and won’t be happy until I’m back to my old self."
Hasn't the real Frolov been saying that, the last few years???
LOL
Too funny Matt. I got a letter from Fukufuji (no roster update yet) and he demanded to be traded!
jon - didnt we see an improvement in him last year, you know when he scored 35 goals and had 71 points?
Alexander Frolov is the best bargain in the NHL.
That is all I have to say.
This debate happens every October... the train hasn't been late yet!
After 7 games this season, Frolov - 0g 5a = 5pts
after 7 games last season - 2g 1a = 3pts
after 7 games 05/06 season - 2g 2a = 4pts
after 7 games 03/04 season - 2g 1a = 3pts
... the past few seasons, Alex hasn't gotten it "going" until about the second week of November, but each year by seasons end he's right near the top of the Kings leader board in goals and points, and has improved every year he's been in the NHL.
He also has about the single most cap hit friendly contract in the entire NHL {thank you Dave Taylor} so why ANYONE would want to trade the kid is certainly beyond me ?
Frolov will be fine and get his numbers by years end, he's already ahead of schedule on points, the goals will come soon enough, just give him ice time and pair him with a couple linemates who can keep up with him.

Thanks Puck U, i was wondering about those first couple week stats. Even though he doesn't look great out there he's still putting up numbers.
Frolov Is Coming.
November 2007.
Unfortunately, the Kings could be out of the race for no. 8 by November.
Maybe if guys like Frolov didn't 'wait' to hit their stride, the Kings might actually make the playoffs one of these seasons. I know, I know, that's asking for too much.
Maybe the problem is that we all think Frolov can do soooo much more than he delivers. His whole career was based on what his potential could be. If I'm not mistaken, he was touted to be a far better player than Kopitar. Once in a while he shows brilliance then it fades. He doesn't finish checks, and like Gretzky, seems to avoid any body contact he the defensive zone. And like Gretzky when he's on the ice the team is half a man down when he plays sub-par. (which is most of the time)
Right, because the hot starts the Kings had with Andy Murray always lead to the playoffs....oh, wait.
1. Fro's a bargain and he's locked up.
2. Some of the best parts of his game (work on the half wall during pp, puck possession in the corners during cycling shifts, creating passing lanes by moving without the puck) go unnoticed by those fans who only think in terms of goals and highlight reel plays.
3. He isn't Kopitar, and wasn't touted as the franchise's savior even when he was first signed.
4. Just relax and let him play. He'll be fine and so will the team.
This is just like the debate between me and my brother. Come end of Season, look at the stats. This guy is like a sleeping Giant. Real low key, but he'll get his 30+ goals and assists. But the fans will still want more. It might not be much for some of you folks. Think of it this way, 30+ from Fro, Cammy, Sully and Kopi. 20+ from Brown, Lubo, maybe Handzus & Nagy. Plus whatever we get from the rest, well hey, we might just make it to the Playoffs.
John,
:::GASP:::
Did you REALLY just blasphemy the GREAT GRETZKY???
If so, I'm gonna go tell Canada on you! They're gonna be pissed!
You mean the Andy Murray teams that seemed to have the entire first line sitting half the season due to injuries?? Oh wait...
Dear MRKUYUKOT, for the record, I was born in Toronto in 1951. Lived there the first 27 years of my life. And yes I did play Hockey, learned to skate at age 3. Could have gone pro but I didn't. As for Canada, well, eh hoser I'm ou and aboot. :-)
Do I need to start posting Tolstoy pictures and vanilla ice cream recipies here too now?
Hey, uh John... I think you meant to respond to SanDagokingsfan. And for the record, I happen to like Canadiens eh. Where would hockey be withoot 'em.
He is right, Gretz and Fro are similar on those two points. He is always sitting on the blue line in the defensive zone waiting for a break just like Gretz and even what Ziggy used to do, just circle around the blue line waiting for the break.
Yay! Charter and the NHL have finaly come to terms on the NHL center Ice package, so I won't be stuck watching the the virtual Kings anymore. I don't get to watch the game tonight but I tomorrows game is a go, it's time to start winning.
1) Matthew, you've got to be kidding. This sort of stuff is the reason I no longer visit fan sites. Find a mate, brother.
2) Only a fool would even think of trading Frolov. Can't believe I read that, or that any fans (with a capful of knowledge) would think such a thing. Perhaps I simply misunderstood. That's probably it.
3) Matthew, you've got to be kidding.
Tweener no longer visit fan sites... Then what the hell are you doing here?
Thank You!
That made my night. Reading your witty post with the voice of Captain Caveman really enhanced the experience.
I believe the question, however, should be "why are YOU here?" (when you should, obviously, be spending your free time in some sort of remedial English course)
Classic!
You still didn't answer my question you dimwit. And just what are you doing replying to my comment? You, with your higher education, shouldn't even waste your time with a lowly person like me. That begs to question, Why would a smart man such as you, spend 5 to 10 minutes of your time reading and bothering to post a comment here? Now, are you gonna give me an answer? Just how sophisticated are you? Think about it.
