Bryzgalov on the market
Ilya Bryzgalov was indeed put on waivers this morning, something the Ducks confirmed a few hours ago. We're attempting to determine the Kings' interest, but regardless, I'd be stunned if 10 teams passed on Bryzgalov. He would be due roughly $900,000, pro-rated, for the rest of the season.

I highly doubt he's still around by the time it's LA's turn to put in a claim. IMO the goalies haven't been the biggest problem for LA this season.
how does the claim work Rich? who get 1st choice? thanks
How long does each team have to claim him?
can someone enlighten me on how the waiver process works?
how do they decide the order of the teams to put in claims?
He is an absolute bargain and maybe a slight upgrade over what we have now but I don't see the Kings jumping at this. We are the kind of team that is always hesitant to cut players until giving them their chance and I think Labarbera and Aubin will be stuck with for a while longer. Plus we also have alot of money sunk into random goaltending given that Cloutier is still in the minors for us.
Stupid commenting system, the above was me. Anyway the team with the lowest percentage of possible standings points in the standings of the teams that file a claim will get him.
Sorry, I should have explained this... Any team can put in a claim between now and 9 a.m. tomorrow. The team with the fewest number of points this season gets Bryzgalov.
Right now that would be, from the bottom up, Washington, Buffalo, Phoenix, Edmonton, New Jersey, Atlanta, St. Louis, Florida, Pittsburgh, Calgary and the Kings. Tonight's games will probably impact the order a bit.
The waiver rule works like this. Go to NHL.com then standings and look at the entire league. The worst teams have priority so PHX imo is most likely to claim him, but thats assuming Washington doesn't which thinking about it, and how old Kolzig probally is, seems likely that they need another #1 to be able to come into the fold soon. Im sure the kings would be all over it if they have the opportunity, which hopefully they do but I think PHX takes him, and if not hes still unlikely for that price to make it to the kings. however it would be awesome to not have to give up anything and get a solid goalie without having to wait on Bernier.
Don't look now, but the kings are in the all too familiar black whole of 11th place... ha ha...i'd be surprised as well if those 10 teams passed on him...he's a bargain...my guess is the coyotes nab him...
Rich,
I want to have your babies. That is all.
Come back!!
Actually guys, the Kings would be 8th on the waiver wire. It doesn't go by who has the lease points, it the lowest PERCENTAGE of points based on games played. So since a team like St Louis has one less point than us but has played 3 less games, we are actually ahead of them on the waiver list. Here is the actual breakdown I copied from somewhere.
1 Caps 36.1%
2 Sabres 38.8%
3 Oilers 39.5%
4 Yotes 41.2%
5 Devils 44.4%
6 Thrashers 44.4%
7 Pens 44.7%
8 Kings 47.2%
9 Flames 47.2%
10 Leafs 47.5%
11 Canucks 50%
12 Stars 50%
13 Lightning 52.8%
14 Blues 53.3%
15 Hawks 55.3%
16 Jackets 58.3%
17 Preds 58.3%
18 Bruins 58.8%
19 Islanders 60%
20 Sharks 60%
21 Rangers 60.5%
22 Wild 61.1%
23 Flyers 63.9%
24 Cane 65.8%
25 Habs 67.6%
26 Avs 67.6
27 Wings 75%
28 Sens 88.2%
29 Panthers 42.5% - made a recent claim of Garth Murray, so they move to the bottom of the pecking order.
Thanks Marc...and I had forgotten about Murray.
Not sure why so many are excited about the possibility of acquiring him. It's really just another name at a good salary. Maybe it's a trading chip down the line, but that's about it. It's certainly not an upgrade. Just another unproven goalie's name to throw into the Kings goaltending mix.
hey, we got kopitar as the 11th pick, right?
that was a "bright side" comment, even if we're now 8th in the order. doubt we'll get him if the coyotes and thrashers are ahead of us.
