Kings 5, Sharks 2

Nice performance by Aubin with 45 saves. The Kings only had that many shots against them once last season, so Aubin stepped up big to keep them in the game. Matt Moulson with his first goal in his first NHL game.

Another one with the Sharks on Saturday night, this time at Staples. I believe Rich will have some notes and quotes from the morning skate and I'll be at the game.

Here's some game quotes from the Associated Press ...

"We needed [Aubin] to be great early, and he was," Los Angeles coach Marc Crawford said. "Everybody knows the Sharks are a really strong club, and that won't change. But great goaltending allows you to build confidence in yourselves."

"It felt like a little more," Aubin said of his shots against. "You know you're going to play [San Jose] eight times, so you'd better make sure you're ready. I felt pretty good this morning, but it was a tough game."

"I was just trying to think about calming my nerves down out there," Moulson said. "It felt good to get on the ice and just try to concentrate on the game."

Didn't the Kings give up over 50 in that heart-breaking loss at Detroit

Matthew Kredell said:

You're right, Andy. I fixed. Those 3s and 5s run together in the small print of the media guide statistics.

Well, I wouldn't be surprised if after the game the Sharks called the cops. J.S. Aubin flat out stole that game.

The score should have been at least 4-0 San Jose after the first period.

It was the best goaltending performance so far this season for the Kings, and one of the worst defensive performances.

So, it was a great game to watch once the Kings started scoring, but before then it was brutal.

Wow, Aubin was unbelievable last night. Best single game goal tending performance I can remember in years from a Kings net minder. Could have easily been 3 or 4-0 at the end of the first. It's nice to see the Kings steal a game solely on goal tending for once...chalk this one up for Aubin. If we are going to win tonight our defensemen need to play a lot more solid in their own zone; still far too many giveaways. Go Kings Go!

I agree with the horrible defensive performance. I was getting ready to throw stuff at the TV. It's nice to finally have a player on our team score his first NHL goal in his first game. I've seen it happen against us so many times before.

Is Tonight's game televised in LA? I do not have a listing for it in Center Ice.

Did anyone see Ivanans take that Rob Blake slapshot in the face? Brutal, he just skated to the bench and his cheek had already turned Kings royal purple. The San Jose announcers said they received a report from the locker room that he had a broken cheekbone, duh! I am not a big fan of Ivanans, but man is that guy tough.
Agree with everyone else, Aubin stole that game. The Kings didn't play that bad in the first, San Jose just came out blazing. SJ couldn't sustain that kind of pressure and the Kings were able to take over playing Crawfords system, hard on the forecheck and activating the D.
Good game.

Just great, the Kings win and I don't get to see it. Darn FOX SPORTS.

yeah, i was just thinking about that game last season against detroit too.... sean burke had 51 saves, i believe. it was a great game that we unfortunately lost, but props to aubin against the sharks!

Paul said:

No offense intended NMKingsFan, but let's not excuse terrible defensive play by saying the other team came out blazing.

The only reason SJ was blazing was they got to spend the entire 1st period in the offensive zone. I don't know how many turnovers the Kings had in the 1st period, but there were a ton. They couldn't get out of their own zone, or out of their own way.

And yes, I saw the Ivanans play. He immediately dropped his gloves and skated to the bench with a bloody cheek. He didn't play the rest of the game. I'm curious to know if he'll miss any time. I'm guessing he will.

Yes, he is a real tough guy.

No, I don't believe tonight's game will be on any TV. Neither the Sharks nor the Kings are televising the game, so unless it's an alternate game for hockey night in Canada or something, I don't see how it can even be on CI. It's not shown on my listings now either.

Oh well. At least there's radio.

Speaking of CI, anyone besides me looking forward to Leafs @ Canadiens tonight?

PS: Camalleri got NHL #2 star last night. He's currently tied for 2nd for the season.

I hope Ivanans isn't out that long, I was enjoying his effort on the ice. So how many more guys on the KINGS have to break their bones thanks to Blake. Sheesh.

Way to go Kings although by the sound of it they didn't show up to play defense. Great job by Aubin, my goodness, we now have two goaltenders! Who would have thought???

Paul,

Tongiht's Leafs & Habs game should be a doozy! The Leafs offense has looked fairly strong so far, and Montreal's power play has been electric. When these 2 meet up, its always special. But when the games are in Montreal, there always seems to be a little bit more electricity in the air...

Paul said:

Yeah, that game in Montreal was fun to watch. Definitely a "playoff atmosphere" despite the game being played in November.

I also caught a few minutes of the ceremony in NY after they let Al Arbour coach his 1500th game, signing him to one of those infamous "1 game" contracts. Pretty classy move by the organization.
