Perspective from the locker room
Well, the Kings have played only 40 minutes of the 60-minute game a lot this season, but it's usually the first period they take off. Thursday night showed it's a lot uglier when it's the third period.
You could tell the Kings were taking this loss hard. The locker room was like a desert. I had to wait around for 15 minutes to talk to O'Sullivan and Johnson. Crawford was a little snippy as well. Asked if he thought the Ducks were sending a message that they're still the defending Stanley Cup champions in the third period, he answered: ``We didn't respond the way we needed to respond tonight. We have to be better next time we get in that position. As far as messages go, messages are probably for AT&T.''
The Kings played the Ducks even for five of six periods plus overtime in the two games but lost three points in the standings. The Ducks (9-8-3) have a winning record for the first time this season.
``They came out hard in the third,’’ O’Sullivan said. ``They’re a good team but I think we’re as good. It’s disappointing that happened in the third.’’
The Kings were outshot 17-7 in the third period. The Kings really dominated the first two periods but the Ducks scored when Perry got a pass in front of the net that perfected knicked off Visnovsky's skate, then scored again when the Kings forgot about Perry coming out of the penalty box. Crawford called both goals for the Ducks fortunate. I suppose it is fortunate for the Ducks that the Kings didn't mark Perry out of the box, though it's fortune the Kings could have controlled.
``The third period was the difference tonight,’’ Crawford said. ``I thought the first two periods we played extremely well and they were fortunate to be where they were. You have to give them credit, they closed out the game well and didn’t give us many opportunities, and we made it a little too easy for them.’’
Here are Ryan Getzlaf's thoughts on the game: ``I tell you what, we weren't worried about them. We were worried about what we were going to do. The first peroid was not a good start for us and not the way we want to start off a game, and they dominated most of the first half. But we were able to rally around each other and score a few big goals.''
Crawford didn't blame Aubin for the third period: ``I thought J-S was great in the first period. He was unfortunate on the chances they scored in the second period. The third, I look at it as it wasn't J-S. It was the fact we had a lot of second shots, a lot of rebounds that became loose pucks that were won by the Ducks. That's something the team has to take a lot more pride in doing. I thought J-S was very good in the first and you couldn't fault him for many of the goals from then on.''
It's hard to argue with that, though Aubin could have done a better job wrapping up some of those rebounds.
Here's Crawford's optimistic summation: ``Our team has been very good at responding to the next challenge and they've been pretty good at learning lessons along the way. That's where we're at. We're a team that's learning. Next time we face that situation we expect to be better.''

I was at the game today and I almost got into a fight with a ducks fan. The fans make me sick as much as the players do.
As far as the game goes, the kings failed to control Perry-Getzlaf-
Kunitz line. They pretty much dominated every shift with their cycle. This Getzlaf player is very hard to knock off the puck.
He's very dominating.
Once again Blake Minus-3 and Visnovsky Minus-4 played a very soft game.
I don't know why Crawford keeps playing Armstrong on the scond unit power play. He seems so out of place with Nagy & Frolov (its like a waste of a power play).
Best players for the kings were Kopitar & Johnson.
Finally, Kings need a #1 goalie NOW.
AND BADLY.
I think this team still lacks solid defensive play. There is only so much a goalie can do if his defensemen are allowing 30 plus shots and numerous scoring chances a game. Guys like Blake, Visnovsky, Stuart have got to step up.
I'm touched that Crawford wouldn't blame Aubin for any of those 3rd period goals - considering that they were virtually ALL his fault. He was giving up fat rebounds all over the place and wasn't controlling the scrambles.
I guess if we aren't going to blame the goalie, maybe we should look at the "veteran leadership", aka the highest paid yet least productive members of this team. Blake, Armstrong, and Visnovsky were a combined -10
...and how does Crawford justify the consistent dramatic disparity between givaways and takeaways?

I have to agree with Anthony on Armstrong and PSP on Aubin.
Kings also need someone to go to the front of the net as Jiggy was giving up big fat rebounds in both games.
There are going to be nights like this one. IMO this team is still learning it's identity and it showed.
Not sure what's happened to Lubo, but damn he's playing like crap. Not shooting as often, passing is bad, decision making is poor. Dude has got to step it up. He certainly hasn't deserved his "A" at all this season.
Yes defensr has a resposibility to help out the goalie, but a goalie ahs to be able to make the big save once in a while and sometimes steal a game when the defense lacks. Neither of our goalies seems capable of that. Labs on occasion when he's on, but Aubin? Please what a joke, he's another project that is not working and he should never start unless it's a back to back. If they are not going to make a deal, just let Labs carry the load.
Ducks have waived Bryzgalov. Matt, Rich, any chance the Kings want him still and have at claiming him ?
So much is made of the fluidity of the line combinations. Most of the time, it doesn't bother me, but I certainly was scratching my head last game.
Down 4-2 in the third and Crawford responds with the Handzus/Zeiler/Moulson line.
We need Calder back. He was good at getting messy in front of the other teams net.
Rich and Matt,
TSN reports the Ducks waive Bryzgalov. The Kings have to be interested, no?
Last night was a frustrating night! Kings play 40 minutes then stink up the place. I think we are seeing glimpses of how good this team can be. During the first 40 minutes they dominated. Which tells you something. The last 20 well...you know the story. Blake, Modry, Thorton, Willsie are not helping this team. Blake is just a shell of his former self. Modry cant pass and always gives the opposition the puck. Need I say more about Thorton or Willsie? Kings need a #1 goalie badly. Babs isn't going to cut it and I want him to succeed. Until we get a legit #1 goalie we will keep going through games like this. This is my team . I will never jump to another. GO KINGS GO!
It's easy to throw Aubin on the fire, but honestly, he made some great saves in the first two periods that kept the game close. By the third, the Ducks were so dominant, and the Kings were so limp that Aubin was fed to the wolves and had to fend for himself for 20 minutes.
Crawford was right not to throw him under the bus last night, but between him and Jason LaBarbera, you get what you pay for. Below average goaltending on any given night. Just a fact.
That being said, I'm sure if Martin Brodeur had to play in front of this team, people would wonder if his career was over. If he played in front of a team like Ottawa, they'd be 17-0-0 and everyone would be talking about his resurgence.
Hello Guys.....Any word from the Kings Camp regarding Ilya Bryzgalov? The Ducks placed him on waivers earlier this morning. Why wouldn't Anaheim try and trade him for future draft picks? It looks like Scott Niedermeyer will be lacing his skates up pretty soon for the Ducks. He is certainly an impact player and will make the Ducks at least 25% better.
The Kings looked sad in the third period last night. Do we have a "Shut-
Down" forward line like most teams in the NHL? The Kings could not stop or contain Ryan Getzlaf's line at all.
Aubin is not to blame for last nights loss, he can only be faulted for one of those goals and that was the last one. And any goalie in this league would start to loss his game when he is facing a borage of shots like the ones that we gave up last night in the 3rd period. Last night was our worst defensive game that we have played all year! We sucked on defense the whole game, we just didn't notice it as much in the 1st because we were dominating in the offensive zone. And that is by far our best defense!
We are paying way to much money for the players who are supposed to be playing defense for us. And that includes Zeus. If we don't make changes to our defense this year then we are not making the playoffs. It doesn't matter which goalie is in net!
Rich, could you please do me a huge favor and figure out what Crawford's beef with Osullivan is ?
It makes me think crawfords a fucking idiot or something.
Armstrong is 100% completely useless on a powerplay. Teams GIVE HIM plenty of room to shoot it, because they know he cant shoot worth beans and hes just looking to give it back to frolov. The ducks did it twice last night, if that was Osully he woulda shot it I guarantee it. Not that stats can tell the whole story but Armstrong has 0 goals the entire season which is surprising because he has had much more ice time with Cammalleri and Frolov than O'sullivan has, who has 4 goals, and is exponentially more skilled than Armstrong.
But what pissed me off the most was last night putting back together Frolov-Army-Cammy with 1:10 left in the third period of the game down 2 goals. Maybe he had already given up, Maybe Kopitar was tired. But even with those two considered Osullivan still deserves that spot 100 times over Armstrong. Oh ya did I mention he scored the kings third goal and stared at crawford after he skated back to the bench, I didn't like that.
Give the kid his dues we turned him into a PK specialist and hes done it with flying colors, now give him the god damn opportunities he was brought here to succeed in.
And if i was close enough I would have thrown my pepsi at Crow for putting Nagy on the first line with Kopitar and Brown instead of Osullivan, Nagys a piece of shit get him off this team.
This team will continue to lose until Crow puts players in the positions they will excel at, which means Osullivan on the top six, and Armstrong not. And Nagy benched unless hes playing with heart and grit, something ive seen from him maybe twice the entire season.
and just one more thing, our 4 game winning streak imo was a result of Crawford putting Osullivan on the line with Frolov and Nagy, Having Calder actually playing with grit and passion didn't hurt either. Ok I'm done but rich please its vital to the success of this team that Crawford gets called out for his problem with one of our most offensively -gifted players that is now our 2nd best PKing Forward.
And wtf, no JMFJ on the PP ?
I completely agree with Joe. Even though he has been relegated to the 3rd & 4th line, Sully has still managed to score 4 goals. That's as much as Frolov, Nagy, And even Pavel Demitra. And more than Scott Gomez & Chris Drury who make b
End of illions more.
Can you imagine how much more productive Sully can be if he plays more on the PP and offensive situations. I predict close to Cammaler-like numbers.
And if he doesn't produce, put him back on the checking or stupid energy line.
JUST GIVE HIM A CHANCE RETARD.
That's it.
End of story.
