Postgame notes
After some dreadful attendance the past few games, this was the second sellout of the year.
The Kings were whistled for a season-low one penalty.
The big difference, statistically, from this game and the previous night's was in giveaways. The Kings had 19 compared to six last night and the Sharks had five compared to 18 last night.
Rob Blake actually led the Kings in shots with five. I wouldn't say that's a good thing.
Crawford mixed up the lines a lot again in the third period, saying he was searching for something to penetrate their defense.
LaBarbera couldn't be blamed for the first two goals. The first one was really a crisp play with the one-timer off a hard pass from Thornton. The second he was screened out and couldn't see the puck. The third would have been a good stop but he was there and should have had it.
Ivanans won't need surgery and Crawford is hopeful he will be able to practice this week and play next Saturday with a mask. ``Obviously, he's a tough kid to be able to handle that,'' Crawford said of the shot Ivanans took under his left eye with the puck Friday. ``That would have knocked out just about anybody.''
The Kings have tomorrow off but will be back to practice Monday.

Matt...I know LaBarbera told us in the dressing room that he thought he played the Sharks' third goal by Cheechoo well, but that maybe the puck was on its side and trickled through.
But I'm not sure anyone, including himself, can blame him. After all, that was a huge one-timer from the slot, below the tops of the circles.
Sometimes, you just have to give credit to the shooter, and I think this is one of those cases. That was one hell of a shot by Cheechoo, who has a cannon for a shot when he's winding up for a one-timer.
Big news from the Ottawa Sun everyone! Lombardi is apparently no longer shopping for a goalie, due o the amazing play of none other than....JS Aubin?
So Ivanans plays such a good game that even when he's precluded from rough stuff by wearing a mask Crawford thinks he's should play? I like Ivanans but this makes little sense.
Matt or Rich....
whats the word on Calder? Yesterday, Nickson said he'd be out 6 weeks. Did he misspeak or is that really the latest diagnosis for Kyle?
It's not about blaming labarbara for the loss. The team helped him out plenty there. It was a shot he himself said he should have stopped. Period. Especially at that point in the game. After that goal, all the air was let out.
The point is, it wasn't a soft goal.
"Rob Blake actually led the Kings in shots with five. I wouldn't say that's a good thing."
Actually it's very common for point defencemen to lead a team in shots
Sorry, but Cheechoo's goal was *very* soft. From outside the hash marks, at the top of the slot with no traffic in front. LaBarbara got a piece of it, bit it trickled through this pads. I don't care if Brett Hull's shooting that puck, that shot should have been stopped.
Regardless, the real culprit here is Modry who did absolutely *nothing* to stop Cheechoo on that play. Play the body, maybe? Tie up his stick? No, good old Modry blows another one.
So Modry is the only one that played bad anonymous? You should just post under Modry hater #1, #2, etc so we can just skip the posts. He's not nearly as bad as you'd like to think but you have a hatred of the guy so every error is magnified.
The whole game attendance thing has been hotly debated in Detroit for a few years now.
Personally I find it a joke when staples announces a "sellout" when ACTUAL attendance is still at record lows.
Dan, for the record, Modry is not the only one who played bad. As a matter of fact, I though Preissing and Blake were both worse, overall. I was merely referring to that one particular play with my comments.
That said, at best, Modry is the #6 defenseman on this team. Much of his game is underrated by a lot of Kings fans, but that doesn't excuse his glaring deficiencies.
Blindly supporting Modry is just as bad as blindly hating him.
So...EVERY shot that a goalie sees must be stopped or it's a soft goal? Wow. Any shot below the tops of the circles, inside the face-off dots is from the prime scoring area. If a less talented player than a Jonathan Cheechoo was taking that shot, I'd agree with you. But sorry, no, With all due respect, you're wrong on this one.
Um, actually Anonymous is exactly right, that last goal was a VERY, VERY soft goal! I have been watching LaBarbera all year make saves in his so called "butterfly" and been cringing ALL YEAR because of it. He always scrunches down, making himself smaller in net and can never properly close his five hole leaving it wide open for a goal such as the third goal in the last game. He is not as good as Aubin in my opinion as Aubin has been playing better than LaBarbera all year including training camp. In fact, after training camp, the goalies were ranked Bernier, Aubin, Cloutier, LaBarbera. Now don't get me wrong, LaBarbera is most definitely playing better than Mr. Beachball, but I don't think he is playing better than Aubin. In my opinion the goalies should be Aubin #1, LaBarbera #2.
Oh, by the way Anonymous, I think Johnson was more to blame on that third goal defensive break down than Modry. We had a 3 on 2 in our favor, Modry had Cheechoo, sort of, while I can't remember how had Thornton, and Johnson, being the third man kinda found himself in no mans land because he was undecided as to whether he should help cover Cheechoo or Thornton. In my opinion, chalk that one up to a rookie mistake.
P.S. Blake must go! I am not liking Stuart much either!
