Official transaction announcement

Forward Gabe Gauthier and goaltender Jonathan Quick were recalled from Manchester. Matt Moulson was assigned to Manchester and Alexander Frolov was placed on injured reserve retroactive to Nov. 21. This sounds like good news on LaBarbera and his condition. Seems like they just want Quick for Monday’s game, then they can activate Frolov and send Quick back down later in the week.

    Not impressed one bit.
Moulson did nothing to deserve to be sent down. I liked his style of play and he did produce 3 goals in limited action.

Quick Ive heard good things about, but why Gauthier.
Last year in 5 games he did nothing for the Kings.
He’s only 5’9 and in a tough division as we play in, we need someone who is strong and physical.
I was hoping for Purcell. He’s 6’3 and more suited for Anahem, Dallas, & San Jose.

If Babs is out, we’re in deep Sh_t. Aubin won’t cut it and although Quick will be a starter one day, he’s gonna go through his ups and downs first.

I was hoping for more from Lombardi. I still think he’s a bigger problem than Crawford.

Hope Babs returns real soon, otherwise we’ll be written off in a month.

Hey Anthony, NEWSFLASH! The Kings are already in deep shit. They will continue to be until Crawford is fired. THANKS…bye.

  • Darren

Manchester doesn’t have anyone strong and physical. If you’re expecting that style of play from Purcell, you’ll be disappointed. It’s a 4th line and backup move. Nothing exciting here.

I wonder if it’s one last chance for Gauthier to make the line up or just giving him a little bit of a bonus ?
Either way I’d much rather see Matt Moulson playing than Nagy, Moulson was already getting close to Nagy’s goal total on the year and looked alot better on a line with Frolov than Nagy did, whatever.

  • Joe

Rich wasn’t Crawford going to basically whine to the NHL about Ryan Smyth ? If so I was kinda curious as to what he is trying to get to happen… either get Smyth suspended or the Ref fined or what happens in a situation like that ?

  • Bruce

These moves make me think Gauthier will center either the 3rd or 4th line and Army will become a winger. Moulson was likely sent down to clear a spot for Army. I think Moulson deserved to remain in LA.

  • Moondoggie

Moulson deserved to stay and had earned a spot on the team. He’s been one of the few bright spots on the team this season. This is really an unfortunate move for the Kings although I like Quick. He may workout long-term. Gauthier is doing another try-out with LA, just a bit of a reward for his scoring with the Monarchs. Personally, I’d have preferred seeing Purcell….

  • Goon Squad

O’Sullivan already switched to wing which has left us short of a center. Gauthier actually deserves a shot and might be a good fit on the fourth line. The guy is a victim of size prejudice…look at his numbers and tell me he doesn’t deserve a shot. His absence from the Manch could mean more ice time and hopefully a kickstart for Lewis and Meckler.

Moulson going down tells me Thornton is close to returning, not Frolov.

In spite of his performance so far, Purcell is very, very green. He’ll get a taste sometime this season, just like Murray and Moulson did.

The future is still bright, suckas!

the funny thing is that Gauthier and Moulson were linemates in Manchester and had some chemistry. Won’t get to see that here, though.

Quick has a chance to join Alexei Volkov, Darryl Gilmour, Carl Repp, Steve Rexe as Kings goaltenders that dressed but never played an NHL game.

  • Dan H.

Moulson going down is just another indicator of Crawfords inability to judge players.

If he’s sending anyone down it should be guys like Armstrong (0 goals).

Maybe if he stopped giving the veterans the ice time that the hungry kids that WANT to give 100% are getting now, at least we’d see some passion.

We need to get some tough guys up though. As much as I hate the knuckle draggers in the NHL, it’s blaringly obvious the Kings are short on toughness.

Our toughest guys are Zeiler (nobody is afraid of him) and Brown (hits like a freight train but you don’t want your first line winger in the box for taking penalties).

  • Dan H.

Oh I forgot our tough guy that can’t be tough and still has more goals than Armstrong even though he doesn’t see any PP time and has stone hands.

Gabe is a solid 2 way player, with the heart and desire that a lot of the vets aren’t showing. He is being rewarded for his play down in the minors and maybe for the vets that care about playing hockey here in LA it will spark something in them… but from what I saw on the ice last sat night, they just don’t care! There is very little heart left in a lot of the older players. It’s apparent to me that they just are not going to play for Crawford. I agree Moulson has played pretty well. Maybe it’s a matter of them sending him away from a bad situation. Maybe they are shielding him from picking up and bad habits that seem to result in LOSING! Fellas, I like you all am a big Kings fan, and this last game left a very bad taste in my mouth. Something has got to change, because it aint workin!

So Dan, you think Army isnt giving it 100%? Wow. Out of all the forwards, Army, Brown and Sully are the only ones that play hard every shift. Army should be captain, and Blake should be shown the retirement home.

  • nykingfan

Of couse, we’d all love to see one of the veterans getting waived and sent down instead of one of the young kids, but does anyone really think management will eat another contract in Manchester? Let’s just be greatful that they did it with Cloutier.

Lately, Moulson has done nothing at all with the Kings. He has 1 point in his last 5 games and is only averaging 1 shot per game over that span. Sometimes its good for a young guy to go down and try to regain his confidence. Hell, nothing good is going to come from being up here and playing with this this pathetic group.

I think its good that guys like Gauthier, who are playing well in Manchester, get a shot. It’s only temporary until Frolov and Thornton get back.

Read a little blurb here in NY that Rangers might be interested in Blake. The writer is Larry Brooks who doesn’t know his ass from his elbow about anything west of Madison Square Garden, but the thought brings a smile to my face.
Rich, anything to this? He does mention about Blake’s no trade clause. Can you imagine the Kings being held hostage by Blake and his threats to never leave?????

  • Matt George

God forbid we should do something about it NOW!

The “10year rebulders” are finally getting to me… who cares if we win. I going to start bringing books on tape to the games…. maybe I’ll learn spanish.

    hhhhmmmmm

  • Deelo

Wow….a lot off base comments here IMO.

First off, it is a Lombardi decision to send down Moulson. They are just giving another guy a chance to play.

Gauthier’s 5 games last year don’t really count as he played very sparingly and not on a scoring line.

Gauthier will get a shot to play on the 2nd line with some scorers around him to see if he can put numbers up in the NHL.

I agree with anonymous to fire Crow. But who would replace him is the question I have.
