Count me in on the “fire Crawford” bandwagon. In my opinion, it is clear to see this team is underachieving on a far too frequent basis. Last place in the league AGAIN after 30+ games?? This team clearly has more talent than that…time for a change.

  • anthony

the ax is on its way down.

  • Paincorp

Maybe Dean read my last post. I can only hope.

I’m also hoping your 2nd question is the winner.

Someone said Tony Granato for coach. Dave Lewis is a technician and a former Kings Captain. He AND Granato together I think could be a pretty powerful combo, IF they get tough with this team and keep them accountable. I could just see Granato giving some extra coaching to Zeiler and Guliano…..those two could actually develop some scoring tough along with a small dirty streak.

    Dreams…..I’m allowed to have them.

  • I HATE CRAWFORD REAL BAD

Here’s something for you to think about, escpecially ANTHONY…

Last year it took 96 points to make the playoffs in the Western Conference. The Kings need 70 points in 50 games to get there. That’s 33-16-3.

    Not gonna happen.

    2003 = No Playoffs
    2004 = No Playoffs
    2005 = No Playoffs
    2006 = No Playoffs
    2007 = No Playoffs
    2008 = No Playoffs

    Notice a trend?

I thought it was strange that DL was at the game last night in Dallas. I thought something must be going down.

Spare me with the hiring of Dave Lewis…haven’t you guys seen enough. Fire the staff or wait until the end of year and rec. the number 1 pick in the draft.
What has Granato or Lewis ever done as a coaches.
Boy do I miss Andy Murray.

  • petey

Well let’s see, 2 games in 2 nights, and getting back to L.A. late. Yeah, you think anyone is up for practice?
    Logic people, logic.

A day off seems fitting, the half that played the last 2 nights can join the other half that took those games off.

I hope he was scouting matti norstrom. i want that guy back in a kings uni.

  • Maverick

Please God, make Dean do something! I know Dean wants to wait for the next off season, but he really needs to make a move here or there will be no one interested in coming to the club anymore. A coaching change and a trade would bring a smile to my face right about now.

  • Chewy Rocky Horror

2 games in 2 nights and a game tomorrow. Maybe he’s just giving the guys a day off to recover from the late night flight.

Although it wouldn’t surprise me if a someone got fired or trade happened.

  • WOW

33-14-3 the rest of the season for 96 points! That’s what gets us into the playoffs. C’mon, that’s only TWENTY games over .500….WE CAN DO IT, WHO’S WITH ME??

    Logic people, logic.”

Initially, your argument would make logical sense. However, if you were to think, analytically, you would have to ask, why was there a practice scheduled in first place? Obviously, the kings know the schedule in advance so, why schedule a friday practice fully knowing the hectic schedule ahead?

I for one thinks MC’s gone. God, at least I hope he is.

wait, you mean the kings actually came out to play the last two games? i could’ve swore they took the night off.

    To Ken…since you asked:

(Tony Granato) After joining the Avalanche as an assistant coach on June 18, 2002, Granato was introduced as the 11th head coach in franchise history on Dec. 18, 2002. He enjoyed a successful year-and-a-half as head coach, compiling a record of 72-33-17-11, which included a 32-11-4-4 stretch to close out the 2002-03 season with the franchises NHL record ninth consecutive division title. Along the way, Granato reached the 50-win mark in 87 games, the 11th fastest mark among all-time NHL coaches. He returned to his position as assistant coach in 2005-06 and has assumed that role ever since.

    To John …

Obviously you are not a long-time fan of the Kings like many of the people on this blog are. We have heard over and over, year after year, that things will come together … then we suffer through this crap this season where one game is great, followed by two games that I would not want my kids to see. No heart, no hussle, no body checks, no energy, no retailiation … the list goes on and on. If you want to pay Anschutz your hard-earned money for this charade, then great, go ahead. But let the rest of us vent when we want to. As you yourself said, grow a pair of cahones and sit there and listen and read and learn, or go someplace else if you can’t take it!

  • Big Rob in Dallas

I posted a comment during the Vancouver game and it never showed up so here it goes again.

While watching the game on Center Ice I got the Vancouver broadcast. The announcers said that Marc Crawford has more wins at the 100 game mark with LA than he did with Vancouver. They also said ” Look how good Vancouver is now” They were basically saying that LA is on it’s way.

I guess to Quote President Bush, “We need to stay the Course”!

Our first kine rocks. We just got nothing after that and crappy goaltending now that Labs is out.

Frolov will return and Zues is slowly coming around. We got talent in the minors. We probably got 2 more years of sucking then we’ll be like Ottawa!!

    Big Rob in Dallas

  • John

    To Ex-Sportswriter,

I’ve been a DIEHARD Kings fan for 20+ years; probably haven’t missed a game in 10. See here’s the deal brother, we may have always heard year after year that things were coming together & then we’d go & actually do NOTHING that is required to see to it that that happened. This time, is in fact, different because for the first time in our history we’re actually building the organization from the ground up. That just takes time, no two ways about it. But I’m overjoyed we are finally doing what it takes to build a perennial winner. Oh & the reason I feel the need to speak up is beacause all your belly aching & calling for Crow’s head is EXACTLY why management has never taken the necessary steps to build a real hockey club in Los Angeles, i.e. they SOOOOOOOO MUCH heat! Just read any number of Kings sites right now, you’d think collective suicide was going to take place any day. So, no I won’t stop saying we’re on the right course because you cry babies are going to get DL fired & then we’re back to where we’ve always been mmmmmk

  • Daniel

“Blues have traded Doug Weight to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for Andy Macdonald.”

Anyone else think this is a weird move?

  • Tito Jackson

Who goes to Staples to watch the games? I just enjoy watching Bailey bang on the glass at opposing players. He’s the 7th man in my book.
I hope they dont trade him.

  • Daniel

Big Rob in Dallas – Your post actually did show up after the Kings v Canucks game, as I actually responded to it. Here is what I said:

    “Uh, Anthony = Marc Nathan.

Big Rob From Dallas and NMKingsFans, thanks for the outsiders view. I think the typical LA fanatic get s bit myopic from time to time. Including me.
I guess the most important thing for every fan (and every prospective fan) to remember is that the Kings have a great future and are starting to play with fire. I f they can keep this up and can keep improving they will make to the playoffs. This year. Granted, Labs and JSA won’t take them past the 1s round but just getting there is all that matters right now.

I think if every Kings game looked like a Wounded Cougar song sounds, this town would be alright.

    Cheers!”

Of course, they haven’t improved since that game, so… Hey, remember when Cammi said what the team needed (after losing a bunch of games at home) was to go out on the road? That didn’t work so well. The Kings are 4-9-1 away from Staples this year. Maybe we need players on the team who know what is going wrong when they lose. (Just kidding, sort of.)

  • The Ex-Sportswriter

    To John …

I appreciate your points and you make some good ones, but hear this: I have been a Kings fan since Day 1 back in 1967, and had season tickets for several years before the lack of commitment and direction by current ownership forced me to give them up. I could no longer pay $80+ per seat especially when the same company that runs the Kings pays an obscene amount of money for one silly soccer player. After 40+ years now with this team, it indeed is good to see them building from the bottom up. But the point I counter with is, it is unacceptable to NOT see effort on the ice every game, every shift, every period. It is not acceptable to NOT see bodies flying around like a grammar school fire drill because these guys are getting paid LOTS of money to play a game. This did not happen under Andy Murray. He wasn’t my favorite guy either, but at least the Kings ALWAYS played with heart, with passion, with dedication. In conclusion, I am convinced the Kings are TRYING to finish last this season to get the No. 1 pick in the draft. They throw in a good game here and there to get our hopes up, then fall back to lackluster efforts. That’s not fair to longtime fans like myself and others, and it’s not fair to Kopitar and Brown and the others on the ice who give 100% plus every night. So if you don’t like my bellyaching, so be it. This is my forum, too, and you can read my comments, ignore them, or just not take part in this blog altogether … it really doesn’t matter to me, because you are free, too, to write and say what you want. OK bro?

  • nykingfan

If Tony Granato was such a great coach, why is he back as an assistant? I realize the record was good, but that’s a strange move to go back to being an assistant.

    John…You are exactly right.
The firings are a short term, feel good thing, but it won’t get us in the playoffs this year. Patience is the key to the Kings future. Build from within.

  • Gord

I’m pretty sure we are not trying to finish last for the draft pick. We are just miserably inconsistent.

I’m still not on the Kill Crawford bandwagon, because I’d love to see his attack style pan out, but I’ll be there by the season’s end if there isn’t any improvement at all.

  • Red Light

    Just a thought,

Do we really trust DL? Does he have an eye for talent?
The same guy who is building this team from within is the same guy who signed the following:
Blake 3 good games in 2 seasons and six million
Cloutier Say what needs to be said The worst goal tending we have seen by a pro!
    Nagy The under achiever
Stuart Has not preformed the last 3 years- and counting
Preissing Might reach 75 % of his potential – MIGHT
Aubin To provide depth in goal
    Thornton Grit?
Mc Caully (sp) a true disappointment
Handzus Just starting to come on
Calder Not a bad pickup With all the free agents this was the best he could do?
    Crawford Say what you will

Garon Let him get away for nothing (could have traded at the deadline for a draft choice)
    Matty for Moodry

Im not saying he hasnt signed some potential talent but it is unproven at this level.

  • Gord

    Red Light,

No one can argue Cloutier, Thornton, Willsie (missed him, and who can blame you)or McCaully. That all sucked and sucked bad.

Blake was a reasonable idea-who was to know this was when he’d hit the wall?

Aubin was very cheap and is decent filler in net. We’re getting what we paid for.

Lombardi at least has the sense to keep most of his contracts to 1 or 2 years. Stuart and Nagy are basically on audition contracts, and barring a turnaround on their part, one or both will be gone at the deadline.

I think Preissing, Calder and Handzus are going to be considered successes. All 3 have become more effective in the past in the past couple of weeks.

Lombardi is trying to play the salary cap game every year, in light of the need to pony up for several up and coming all stars. IMO he’s doing a good job of keeping plenty of room open for future opportunities. All the expiring contracts of useless players frees upwards of 16 or 17 mill this year, I think. A rookie or two (potentially one of those he drafted) should step in, which gives us a lot of money to throw around at someone like Redden, Langkow or even Ryan Malone (just wish listing, there).

  • Anonymous

To Gord, I agree with you on Calder and Handzus, but the jury is still out on Preissing. He has played better the past week-plus, but let’s see it over the whole season (like he did last season elsewhere). I love Calder’s hussle and grit, and Handzus looks like he is getting healthy and is strong on the puck – he just needs now to build a bit of chemistry with his wingers. I like what DL is doing, but I just wish that, since this year can already be written off as far as playoffs would go, he would bring up the promising youngsters from Manchester. The experience would be extremely helpful, and I am not among the believers who say their psyche would be ruined by lack of success. If that was the case, then we would all be writing off Bernier already – and none of us are ready to do that now, are we? I think building from within is the right path, and as you mentioned, once cap space opens up and it appears the corner has been turned, a big name can be acquired in trade. But that is a season or two (or three?) away still!

Daniel, I like that Ducks trade as a Kings fan, I think it weakens them in the long run. Weight is on his last legs. Guess Burke is going for the Cup this year before Neidermeyer retires again.
Based on the Ducks play last night, I don’t think they liked losing the popular McDonald.

  • dogking

I’m a little curious about how long those of you in the “patiently rebuilding” camp are willing to wait.

Personally I feel that the never ending process of rebuilding has been a scam. It is difficult to imagine the Kings even making the playoffs while under the control of AEG. The bottom line operating principle of AEG is to keep costs (i.e. player salaries) as low as possible, promise the fans a serious committment to build a winner, and then empty your wallet at the beer stand.

Forty years is long enough to win the Cup. When you consider that we’ve challenged for it only once the odds are very long that we will win the damn thing in another 40 years.

I am TIRED of waiting for this team to win. Hell most nights they barely compete.

Has anybody else noticed how Aubin flinches whenever a shot comes at him? Flinching from the one guy on the team that is PAID to STOP the puck. F*cking flinching!!

I trust DL, but give us some reason to believe that we can make the playoffs – this year. Crawford should be let go. His inability to create an atmosphere of determination for his team is cause enough for his dismissal. Hell at this point I’d let Paincorp coach the club, at least he has fire and passion. Something Crawford seems unfamiliar with.

Upgrade the goaltending, continue the banging physical play, create consitant lines, bring in a new coach, and spend a little more of those dollars I spend on parking and beer.

Oh, for you guys looking to finish dead last in the league to get the number 1 pick; there is something called the draft with which you should become familiar. Finishing dead last does not ensure the number 1 pick. Then again, since you’re lossers, after a couple of more seasons like this, I’m sure you’ll learn all about it.

  • dogking

Watch again tonight as Aubin flinches when a puck is fired at him. Has anybody else noticed this?

Fire Crawford, release Aubin, and pray that things don’t get worse.

AEG is a laughing stock when they say they are rebuilding the club. Hell I can remember Sam McMaster and Dave Taylor promising the same thing many years ago.

This is disgusting and you folks that continue to accept the promise of a better future are a part of the problem. Why build a contender when AEG can soak you for the cost of a ticket and the grossly overinflated price of parking and beer. You keep hoping for a better future, how about a win for just today? But alas…we get the Flincher.

Dump Aubin NOW. He sucks and always will.

    To DL: What’s plan D?

  • Fan since ’70

Dumbardi and Crawful have had 110 NHL games with Taylors good young players and their “buddies” from around the league. They’ve gone backward. In Manchester they’ve gone backward.

Every managent group associated with the Kings has vowed to build a farm system and pimped prospects and every one of them has failed.

Blind allegiance to these two nitwits is the only thing selling tickets. We are the laughing stock of the league. The Ducks little brother. This sucks, and singing the praises of some undersized AHL hero and some 18 year old goalie is just flat stupid. Wake up.

  • Red Light

    Gord,

I do think Handzus and Calder are doing fine but Im still out on Preissing. Sully and Johnson are both positives for DL. Im just not sure I trust his vision of what is true talent in this new NHL. We have more potential talent on this year than we did last year but we are no better off. I think that is more of a reflection of our coaching or lack of coaching. I dont believe that wins and losses are the only way of judging this but rather effort and consistency every game all the time. If people want to blame Crawford for the condition of this team then you need to blame DL for allowing Crawford to continue to act as a coach. I think all of us as fans know we are not a playoff team but just want to see something being done at this point in the season. We should be doing better and there are issues with both players and coaches that seem to be the problem. We dont need another house cleaning but I would like to see something more than an inconsistent benching of a player be done to let us know he sees a problem like we do. Enduring this for a whole season will only hurt us in the long run. It wont serve the kings well when it comes to signing new players in the off season or resigning our own players. We need a change on the fly to show us something and we need it now

  • Arron

    dogking,

Why would you dump Aubin and deplete the roster even further…makes absolutely no sense what so ever.

Many people have said it before and I am going to re-inforce it here. Rebuilding takes time. Let’s take a look at some of the teams who have been contenders year in and year out in the past decade or so. Detroit, Ottawa, New Jersey and Colorado. What most people here either want to forget or do not realize is that all four of those teams were either dead last or near the bottom of the league for close to a decade. Ask Joe Sakic what it was like playing for a loser in Quebec. Ask Steve Yezerman what it was like playing for the last place wings for so many years. These guys all became power houses because they built the system from with in.

I like what DL has done. Look at Team Canada, we have Three prospects playing for that team. Three! When 40 kids are ivited to a try out and three make it, that says soemthing about the talent we have coming up in the system. I was in the arena when Team Canada was playing Russia in the recent summit series. That night Thomas Hickey stole the show. He had five assists and was a plus six, and clearly the best defender that night. I could easily see why DL drafted him so high. This kid is going to be something else.

So patience people. Building a power house from with in is not done in two seasons.

    Ex Sportswriter:

    You statement:

“This did not happen under Andy Murray. He wasn’t my favorite guy either, but at least the Kings ALWAYS played with heart, with passion, with dedication”.

Is simply wrong. Did we not all watch in disgust as the team literaly mailed in the last third of the season the year Andy got fired. It was truly depressing.

I don’t have an answer as to why this team can’t show more effort night in and night out. I know I work damn hard for the money it takes to buy season seats every year. The least this team can do is work hard while I’m sitting in them.

  • nykingfan

You have these grand ideas of getting rid of everyone. Exactly who the hell do you plan to bring in? I missed that part of your rant. Remember, you have to work under a cap and I’m not too sure of the availability of Crosby or Datsyuk, which pretty much eliminates any shot of making the playoffs this year.

Just like Arron said, we have some of the top prospects in all of junior hockey. We never had that with McMaster, or Taylor. We have a guy who is considered one of the best goalie prospects in hockey in Bernier. From everything I’ve read Hickey has the potential to be a big time player.
Just let it play out. If DL is wrong on all of these prospects than he’ll be fired and we’ll be back where we’ve been for the last 40 years. What other options are there?
All of us were hoping and expecting the playoffs this year. We were also hoping Nagy would play up to his potential and it wouldn’t take Handzus and Army to go 20+ games without scoring.
We won’t make the playoffs because guys like that have totally screwed us this year. These guys should be arrested for grand larceny. Anthony isn’t that the charge for stealing millions of dollars? LOL

  • dogking

Oh my, NYKingsfan has been upset. Didn’t want anybody to get upset. Now sit down, clown.

As I mentioned in my post, I trust DL. I lives in SF while he GM’d the Sharks and considering their recent (dating back to his leadeship) history I’ll stick with him.

I only suggested that Crawford and Aubin be dismissed now. Did Aubin pull out a win tonight? Did this game contribute to the progress of any prospect in Manchester? Get over it. Your lame dream of the future is pathetic.

DL is a serious guy, but a hockey team is about standing up for each other and accountability. I like our roster, but the problem is motivation, which is a product of coaching and leadership.

And if you haven’t realised it yet, Aubin SUCKS!!

If he didn’t, we would be winning.
