Off-day poll

Many of you probably have seen the Kings' all-star commercial that has run on the overhead screen at games recently. If you don't know what I'm talking about, here it is. And that brings us to my question ...

How many cookies would it take for you to vote for Lubo?
None. I'll vote for any King.

I think the team should stop with the cute commercials, seems they are too distracting to their play. They need to spend all their free time thinking about how badly they are playing.

Polly Pollster said:

Matt are you and Rich afraid to run a "fire crawford poll"? It seems to be the poll that needs to be run.

Patrick said:

It's simply. Neither Lubo nor Blake deserve to be there this year. Cammy and Kopi do.

I wouldn't even take his Mercedes from him.
I'm so digusted with his play and all those turnovers.
I can't believe Dumbardi sined him to a 5 year $25 Million Plus deal.
This G.M. keeps throwing away valuable cap money as though he was printing them in his basement.

I am sad to say that I voted for: More than there are on Earth. At the beginning of the season voted for Kings players like crazy. Now I can't even remember when the last time was that I voted! The way that they are playing right now, they don't even deserve to play in the NHL!

Rich & Matt, could you please tell Dean on behalf of the loyal and very tired fans, that we are on the brink of no longer caring what the ____ happens with this team!

Please, please, please.........do something, anything to get this team at least looking respectable when they lose!

Lubo has just been horrible this year. Sometimes this happens when a player signs a big contract and hopefully he will get back on track next year. Our defense as a whole is laughable really. I like Jack Johnson and he is so young and playing like so...constantly out of position. Modry was solid but probably has other things on his mind. I won't even get into Stuart and Priessing, they are just fillers...I hope. Blake is a showdow of himself and shoudl be gone by the Deadline.

dogking said:

Really, do these guys deserve a day off? Maybe Crow should have them skate until they vomit all over the ice. Seems that's what they give us each game.

TooCool said:

I vote for Lubo, Kopi, Cammy, and Blake 30-50 times a night before sleeping. Plus write-in votes for Brownie, O'Sully, and Fro. I've tried encouraging other people, but no one really seems to care. =\

BOB said:

A day off or a 24-hour practice, same difference. The Kings will continue to suck as long as Crawford is behind the bench, period.

They sucked last year, they suck this year...and they'll suck next year as well if MC is still around. The only difference-maker would be a goaltender that has a hot-hand. LaBarbara is solid, but not solid enough to CARRY a Crawford-coached team. Maybe if Bryzgalov was picked up, things would be a little different...ask Phoenix how that's working out for them. But oh yeah, Lombardi felt we were all set in that department. Sure, Burke would rather give Bryz to Phoenix for free rather than trade with the Kings....sure.

I really miss Andy Murray....imagine what he could have done with a relatively injury-free team. The funny thing is, even if they continued to suck with Murray, they sure would be fun games to watch...and I don't think anyone would be questioning their heart.

kozak said:

Lubo on the all star team? The way he has played this year? I think not.

Maverick said:

The all-star game is a popularity contest, not necessarily a reward for play so far in a season. Sure some guys have a good season and might be considered but for the most part, it is based on how popular the player already is in the league.

Oz said:

Lubo does not deserve to be on the all star team this year. He is definitely struggling. He had a huge year last year, maybe the weight of the extension is getting to him. I guess we'll see, but don't sit there and say it was a waste of money when he has been one of our better offensive defensemen the last few years. People were freaking at the thought of losing him to free agency, and were happy when he signed, now you are going to complain when he's having an off year? You can't have it both ways.

John said:

Bob, you're fooling yourself kid; the last days of the Murray regime was INFINITELY worse hockey then this!

Jonny said:

Kopitar should have more Votes then Cammalleri, and we should all be writing in Dustin Brown

BOB said:

Hey John, take a look at the roster in the last of Murray's days and come back with that one.

If Murray was coaching with this roster...easily a .500 team.

sense13 said:

John, you are clueless if you think we're better off w/Crawford and not Murray.

As for Lubo...I think last night's faux pas by Lubo in which the opponent had scored pretty much sums up what kind of dman he is. I want a dman who would have taken the body. That was a perfect opportunity to knock the guy out flat but instead what does he do, he tries to poke at the puck and of course he misses.

DL made a crucial error signing an all offensive minded dmen. He needs to trade either Lubo and or Preissing and bring in a legitimate stay at home physical force on defense.

As I recall, the Kings held the 7th playoff spot when Andy Murray was fired. Brilliant. They haven't been even close since...we'll they were in first place after the first game this season but that didn't last, did it? Andy Murray was a class guy who knew hockey and a far better motivator than Crawford (I just love how he stammers and paces after a bad call or play....). Andy Murray's firing was completely out of the blue and one of the biggest mistakes the organization ever made.

teach said:

HELLO! I could recall many many many fire Andy campaigns. So they fire Crow, do we have to wait another 2 years? Why doesn't anyone give Crow credit for the development of our young players? Were you all not the ones who "blamed" Andy's practices for all the injuries the Kings had? Some of you claimed that the Kings would never go anywhere with Andy. I can see the future if management listens to you all and fires Crow. Crow will go on to another team (like Andy) and succeed there. Lately, the Kings have been making mistakes you can not blame on Crow. I think the line combinations are getting better. The guys all look like they are gelling with each other----finally! I know I will get a lot of flack from this post, so bring it on. I am just tired of everyone wanting Melrose, Andy, Scotty! We are not getting them, and you all didn't want a couple of them when they were here. I realize you all are frustrated---I have been a fan for almost twenty years--I, too, am frustrated. I get pissed off just as much as anyone else when the Kings lose, thinking my hard earned money spent on season tickets is going to waste. Unlike some of you, I still believe in Crow and his vision for this team. I have spoken with him several times and I wonder if any of you have?

Why does the team always make Lubo out to be such a dork and baby? Lame

Fire Crow said:

Cmon teach. Crow has had over 110 games to make a difference and the team is 3 points deep in last place. We've become worse and worse and worse. Lombo and Crow have brought in their vets to play with DT's kids and they've made them worse, worse worse. Ship out Norstrom and Miller out, Stuart and Blake in. Did it help? Hell no. Crow has got to go. Dumbardi next. And "I talked to Crow, have you?" WHO CARES. Your little name-dropping is worthless. Next time you talk to him ask him how losing 4 in a row is "gelling" and what the hell the other 39 coaches know that he doesn't.

Goon Squad said:

Anyone saying that signing Lubo to a 5 year extension was a "mistake" is an absolute idiot. Okay he's had a crummy first 2.5 months of this season. How short sighted can you people be.

Paincorp said:

I thought Andy Murray was a scapegoat myself. I thought he was a fine coach except for his dislike for the enforcer. I still believe that is why his teams were so injured more than anything else. Teams had no fear of retaliation when they played us.

Regarding Crow, an earlier poster said it best when describing Crow's coaching style. His ego will not allow this team to gel on their own level and be creative. All creativity comes from the head coach VIA 'the system'. That only works with a team full of sheep. NO TEAM IN THE NHL IS A TEAM FULL OF SHEEP!!!!! Therefore Crow must go.

So you've talked to him many times. I'm sure he is ultra intelligent and could dance circles around me when planning strategies. The difference is, I'm not getting paid to be head coach of the Kings AND PRODUCE A WINNING TEAM. Intelligence alone does not produce a winner. Crow's 'System' does not work with these players. Allow him to find the team it works with as I am SICK AND TIRED OF BEING AN EXPERIMENT!.

Thanks

Lubo is too soft. He'll probably get hurt if he played in the ASG. Blake should play just so he gets hurt. That'd be nice. They're both garbage this year. Kopi and Brown are the only ones deserving. Cammie would've been if not for the ginormous slump he's in. I hope to God we get Stamkos...

Hey guys a heads up to all of my fellow out of towners:
Tonights game isn't on the package. It's on the NHL Network. We're not even good enough to get on Versus. I hope everyone has the NHL Netowrk. I don't want to have to suffer alone watching this one.

I also loved Andy Murray as coach. His mantra was make it difficult for any team to come into your building and play.
It seems that has been completely lost with Crawford and this team.
I never could understand why the crazy rash of injuries during his tenure. It's hard to blame the coach for that, but it was amazing the man-games lost to injuries.
I also believe that at the end he had lost the team. They were playing terrible hockey. When he got fired I think they were in 7th but were dropping like the Hindenburg. They couldn't complete a pass at either end of the ice. His style was a more in your face type. He graded players after each game and met with them on those grades. the crazy notes under the players door on the road. That type of micro-managing usually has a short shelf-life. Having said that, that's what this team needs right now...some accountability every night.

teach said:

I am not name dropping just wondering what all of you expect from a team that is in the stages of rebuilding (year 2. You all mention firing Crow, so who would make you all happy as coach? I hear some say Dave Lewis can take over. Seems to me he is already a part of the coaching staff and when he was head coach elsewhere he didn't get much results. I understand you want to win now, but come on we have butt loads of new players this year not playing at their potential for games entirety which leads to mistakes on the ice. Also, Crow hasn't been good for the young guys? Have you seen the way are young guys have played under Crow? I am sure you have. If Crow gets the blame for the team losing he should get the credit for the young guys playing like like "Studs".

Dan H. said:

As was said above, Murray was fired and the Kings had the 7 spot in the playoffs. That was a far worse team on paper than this one and he had far more injuries to deal with and still managed to bring a competitive team to the ice each night.

He may have lost his impact on the team but at least he had an impact.

And whoever said we should credit Crawford for developing young players...what? What's he developing when the team is going downhill with the same young players as last year? Kopitar and Brown were stuck with Thornton last game on their line. Is that supposed to develop a need to overcome a non offensive player on the first line...he played Armstrong on the power play even though he hadn't scored a goal and he thought he was a half wall "hands" guy when he should have been in front of the net.

I don't give Crawford credit for much other than being a nice guy perhaps. That's not what he was hired to do. The Kings are rebuilding and have been forever, so they should be getting better a little each year instead of worse. I don't remember being the doormat of the league like they are this year. Teams come in knowing two points is in the bag if they play even a decent game.

dan said:

The team is young. They do not have any elite veteran talent to learn from except Blake. Yes, Blake is still considered "elite" no matter what his numbers are or how you feel about him. You have to admit that he appears to be recovering finally from offseason surgery and playing much better as of late. Blake's work ethic in practice (first one person there and last to leave) and off the ice (exceptional conditioning year after year)is one the main reasons he was brought in. Lead by example.

Andy Murray is a fine coach for older teams that are underachieving and must win now. If AM was the coach, Kopitar would have started on the 4th checking line to "earn" his playing time. He is not a good coach for younger players. Crawford has a reputation as a great coach and teacher to the young players and that is what this team needs.

I still believe that Vishnovsky's extension was a great signing. His poor play (along with Frolov, last years' top goal scorer, being injured for most of this season) is a big reason for the team's poor standings. Visnovsky's value to the team's success is severely underrated. Frolov not being at 100% has hurt the team as well. When Frolov is at 100%, he makes everyone around him better.

Tony said:

Andy Murray? My God you guys have lost it.

Moondoggie said:

We are seeing some better play out of some of our players of late, finally. Zeus has been a workhorse all season but started out slow due to his knee, same for Blake. Blake is now agressively going after opponents, his goal against the Avs was vintage Blake, down the slot, a slapper and in it goes, Budaj didn't have a chance. This has been an awful year for Lubo, what a letdown. But players go through these during their careers, he'll be back for sure.

As far as Crow's "style" goes....How can a team gel when they don't play together night after night (save the 1st line)? Everyone on this blog likes Sully, personally I think he's great and deserves the 2nd center position next to Fro. The poor boy has been all over the place, 1st, 4th, 2nd, 3rd, who knows? He doesn't even know who he's playing with night after night, game after game. It's called repoir, or learning another players style, getting use to their style so they know where each other is on the ice. There is no way you're going to develop any repoir or camaraderie shuffling the lines night after night after night after....well you get the idea. Oh yes, we've had it well, a relatively injury free season. I say relatively because loosing Lababs hurt huge, we're not real deep in goaltending, throwing Aubin in to stop the bleeding didn't help (I'm still trying to figure out that signing). The future is bright for this team tho. We will start seeing more production out of the 3rd line once Calder's thumb has healed (ever try to stick handle or shoot with a broken thumb or a thumb brace on???) Enuf said.

As far as Andy goes....*sigh* This arguement is the dummest I've seen yet on this blog. Andy had good talent on his teams, no question. He's a workaholic, no question. He's a teacher, look at all the work he did with Team Canada, juniors, etc and the success he had in all those places. Best of all, he's a motivator. He got results and had one of the best records of any previous Kings coach. You can't argue that. The Blues are 3 points out of a playoff spot right now and they don't have close to the talent LA has. The Kings are underachieving, their record speaks for itself. For those of you season ticket holders who like Crow, you'd better get ready to eat some for a while. This team isn't the worst team LA has ever had, they're just playing that way. To look the the way they do, night after night after night, forgetting to show up the first 2 periods, then waking up in the 3rd when it's too late is unacceptable, and that's coaching, period. No you didn't see that with Andy's teams, never. They were always prepared and played a full 60 minutes. Can anyone say when was the last time the Kings actually played a full 60 minute game? Just look at the standings, there's your answer.

Most of you are soooo negative. You want the "quick fix" now but then complain when management succumbs to your whining.
MC & DL have good track records. Give them a chance. When he was hired DL said it would take 3-5 years.
You fair weather fans would probably want to fire Scotty Bowman if he were the coach.

Great point by Dan H in that I think none of us have a problem with the team rebuilding. In fact, we embrace it....but there is no reason why this team shouldn't be improving every year in which THEY ARE NOT. We've had the goaltending that Lombardi decided was the answer...and for the most part it has been solid enough to win games. No improvement = CRAWFORD MUST GO.

BTW: Here's to the Kings being 9 games under .500 after tonight.

Ryan...I understand the appeal of reading sites like that, but I think you know how I feel. I wouldn't bet the house on it. Or a nickel, for that matter. I don't see a fit with the Kings and the Habs but there's always the possibility of a surprise, I suppose.

Let me just state I liked Andy too, but I went to ALL of the home games he coached and they weren't all perfect. Andy's teams didn't always play a good 60 minutes--if they did he would still be here. Anyways, he is gone elsewhere and it is pointless discussing him over and over. Let me just say again, I still believe in Crow, which I have to admit, after tonight's game is getting very hard. I still think he is a good coach for the young guys, but even I recognize that with all these losses, something needs to be done.
