Kopitar an all-star

Anze Kopitar was named to the Western Conference roster for the NHL All-Star game, the first of what should be many selections for the 20-year-old forward in his second year. He played in the YoungStars game last year as a rookie. Kopitar leads the Kings with 40 points (17 goals, 23 assists). I'll try to get a quote from him on the selection before tonight's game.

Here's an interesting quote from Rob Blake on Jarome Iginla, elected as a starter for the West, who called the Calgary forward the best player in the NHL: ``He’s not just a goal scorer. He’s powerful, he’s tough. He’s the ultimate all-around player.''

Anze Kopitar will one day out shine Sidney Crosby. You mark my words.
His talents are extraordinary.
He deserves to be on the All Star team.
As far as Blake is concerned, he may get his wish end up playing with Iginla.
The thought of him being an all star this season is such a joke.
I hope he leaves L.A. and never comes back. As a player or front office.

Triple-chin making nice in hopes of getting dealt to Calgary....

poor Anthony... so misguided. Kopitar is a fine asset, but he'll never achieve the level of Sidney Crosby. That kid will be the face of the NHL for the next couple of decades. Kopitar will be an excellent player, and hopefully one day will have his talents exposed on a league-wide basis.

As for Blake... he's not far off the mark in praising Iginla, but again, not the "best" player in the NHL.

Im sorry but unless the hockey gods grant Anze the ability to skate as strong as Crosby does he most likely will not become better than crosby

but I do believe when he starts to punish defenseman take the body and finish the hit when he has the opportunity he will be better than Joe Thornton hands down, hopefully it just takes him a couple more years of getting hit to get that mean streak.

Joe,

My thoughts exactly. I agree Anze will develop into a similar player like Joe Thornton, not Sid the kid. The difference between the two players will be how Anze acts and reacts when this hockey club makes the playoffs... in 2010.

sorry, i don't think kopitar will reach crosby status. crosby is comparable to a modern gretzky; anze is gonna be a hall-of-famer, just probably not a hockey legend. that would be pretty sweet though...

and now i stop daydreaming and remember we're in last place. and that blake has been fairly useless. thank the lord for anze kopitar, and we really need to trade blake.

let's go kings! lose by less than 7!

Until Anze can throw a Brown like check, he won't be as good as he should. That guy should punish people on the glass and doesn't.

i wonder what its going to cost us to keep Anze...

“Alexander Ovechkin is going to be sticking around Washington for the long haul as he has signed the biggest contract in the history of the NHL Thursday by agreeing to a 13 year extension with the Capitals worth a whopping $124 million.” Per TSN

ps. he's a great talent, but c'mon Anthony... go sell crazy somewhere else.

Even though Anze is no Crosby, he can certainly be compared to Malkin. I would leave it at that for now.

Well deserved for Anze. As I said before, he's the best we've had since Gretzky.
I thought Dustin deserved to go as well, but the worst team in the league doesn't get 2 players.

If we wanted to lock up Anze right now it would probably be somewhere around 10/70m with a lot of the money coming later in the contract.

just a guess.
