Three in a row for Kings
Brown, O'Sullivan and Visnovsky scored for the Kings in a 3-1 victory over Edmonton. The Kings led 3-0 before Edmonton got its goal late. Yesterday's callup Teddy Purcell saw his first NHL action. He took three shots in 12:26 of ice time. Peter Harrold was inactive. Kopitar had two more assists. LaBarbera made 32 saves. The Oilers had just three shots in the first period. Nice 60-minute effort from the Kings.

Playoffs baby ! j/k
This Brown-Kopitar-O'Sullivan combination is becoming a top line in the NHL.
I never imagined that we were receving this caliber a player in exchange for Pavol Demitra.
I initially criticized the trade because I thought we were giving up too much in exchange for Sully.
But now, I have a different opinion on this acquisition.
For once, I'm gonna say it. Good trade Lombardi.
There we go men, Great Win by the Los Angeles Kings, hopefully we can pile up some more wins, hey u never know if we can get 5 more wins in a row, we would only be 2 GAMES UNDER 500. The way this team is playing they can achieve it, the way there schedule pan s out in the next 5 games, DIFF I CULT. I also have an article about the win tonight if you would like to see it, click the blue ribbon on my name, Thank You all for showing support to my website once again!
For those who didn't see the game in LA, Purcell was awesome. From his first shift to his last, you knew he was making some type of impact. The puck just seem to find him everytime he stepped onto the ice. He almost scored his first goal in the 3rd that rang off the crossbar and had plenty of oher chances during the game. I have no idea why Lombardi wouldn't call this kid up anytime sooner. He looks like he belongs here and should stay with the team for the rest of the year.
Mommy, can we keep Purcell??? Pleaaasee
lol, Shakes i was listening to it on the Radio since it wasn't televised here in L.A., dang did the Nixon and D Evs love him, just compliment over compliment. Especially over the fact his line is getting chances especially playing with Handzus + Calder. But i heard DL just called him up for the Western Canada Swing, so i don't think we will see him in Staples for a long time.

If Lombardi does not bring up Cloutier very soon the #1 draft pick may be lost.
Playoffs LOL you got to be kidding. If the Kings make
the playoffs Crawford should win the Jack Adams
Trophy. The Kings are not chasing one team-they are chasing the whole Western
Conference. unless they can pass Phoenix and Dallas (fat chance) forget about it as no fourth place team in their division will make playoffs. They are making baby steps enjoy it.
What is with this winning stuff. The chance of getting Stamkos is slipping away.
5 consecutive wins would put them 4 games under 500, not 2.
I just got done watching the game. Center Ice had the Edmonton feed. Great game all around by every guy. Purcell was really good in his first game. He just missed one off the cross bar. We may not need Cams with a young guy like him waiting in the wings.
Purcell looked outstanding. he was used on a shutdown line with Calder and Handzus and they regularly controlled the play against the Edmonton top line. He was all over the puck, willing to go to the tough areas to get pucks and won a lot of battles. Created a few turnovers too. Just a solid debut for him. A shame he couldn't net a point.
O'Sullivan is really starting to hit his stride offensively. Brown was Brown and Kopi was Kopi, but O'Sullivan is becoming a force. I'm just hoping Crow doesn't screw with things too much when Cammy gets back. We've finally found consistency with him out...I just hope we can find a spot to keep everyone happy.
I think it's time for Willsie to be waived or traded for a 6th rounder or something. He has no place on this team at this point, and never really did even at his marginal cost. If Purcell keeps it up, I don't see anyway he can be sent down. He doesn't have anything left to prove down there unless he totally screws up the next couple of games.
DL should either look at the game tape or the audio by the Edmonton radio crew, all they could say about Purcell is, He absolutely looks as though he'll be up for a long, long time, he doesn't look out of place and he can hit.
Hat's off to Jason LaBarbera who played a really good game.
From listening to the game he seemed very much in control and didn't allow many rebounds. I saw highlights on Yahoo Sports and he absolutely robbed Ethan Moreau right at the doorstep in the 3rd period.
The Oilers where getting booed in their own building when the Kings totally outworked them and made them pay when they coughed up the puck in their zone.. Sweet!
Nick Nickson mentioned the team will get the day off tomorrow to go dog sledding somewhere in Alberta... You guys totally earned it!!
I caught part of the game on Center Ice. I think it was a feed from the Oilers pay-per-view network, because it was a different broadcast crew than usual.
The announcers they were quite complimentary of the Kings. They kept repeating how surprised they were that the Kings were in last place, based on their talent level and the way they played tonight.
Lubo scored a nice goal but he still seems lost in his own end. I still love the guy but he is costing us defensively.
Purcell did look very good. Garon robbed him on a few prime scoring chances.
Besides Purcell, it was a pretty vanilla game. The Kings played one of their best defensive games of the year, and when the Oilers gave them chances, they took them and scored. Nothing really too flashy. Just a solid game.
Now, I don't know who that guy was in goal for Edmonton, but it WASN'T Garon! The Garon we had here in LA was not even close to being that good! The Oilers TV guys kept talking about how stupid the Kings were for letting Garon go. They weren't stupid! He was AWFUL while he was here!
The Oilers TV guys then went on to blame Edmonton for the whole game, and just like all the other Canadian TV commentators, they gave almost no credit to the Kings. It gets annoying to watch the myopic TV announcers that it seems most other NHL teams have. Thank G-D Bob Miller and Jim Fox aren't like that! :)
Barbs did play really well, other things that stood out from watching the Oilers commentators:
- they couldn't stop gushing over Sully
-Apparently "Kopitar" can be pronounced either "Cop-itar" AND "Koe-pitar" during the same powerplay
-they couldn't understand how the Kings were in last
- An interesting segment/insight into Crawford telling Garon that he wished he played him more prior to his departure to Edmonton
Just a real solid game, none of those 10minute spells when nothing goes right. For the record Garon made probably 5 point blank saves that kept the game close otherwise it could've been 4-0 or 5-0
Purcell looked great...
The Kings looked pretty dominant last night which begs the question, did we play that well or did the Oilers just suck that bad ? Good saves by Garon who kept the game "closer" in the third than it should have been.
This team looks like it's hitting its stride a little. They played a solid game in their own end. The fowards were coming back to help and the D were clearing the front. At one point the Kings had more blocked shots than Edmonton had shots on goal.
Great 1st game for Purcell. A couple of times he got lost in his own end, but he has a nose for the puck. You can tell he's going to be an impact player. I still think he goes back to Manchester until after the trade deadline and some of the vets are moved to open a spot for him. It was exciting to see more young talent being called up and looking like they belong in this league.
After listening to the DL's Q&A session, I'm starting to believe if he has a choice, he's going to pick a defenseman instead of Stamkos. I'm not sure that's wrong either. This team has the nucleus in place to be one of the stronger ofensive teams in the league. If you strengthen the blue line it will make them a complete team. I say that hoping that Bernier is one of the final pieces to the puzzle.
without that, we're back to where we've been.
I always thought Garon was a good goalie with the potential to be great. His problems were inconsistency and injuries. He did get shafted the beginning of last year when Crawford went with Cloutier who was imitating a ghost in the net, but when he had his chance, he got hurt.
Like the others have said it was a good overall game.
If you noticed the TV broadcast, Garon came in #3 in fan voting for MVP of the season this far.
Maybe it's time we face facts guys, it might not be the goalie but the team in front and the system they play.
Garon, Legace, Huet, etc....all of a sudden they got good when they left? I think it's more likely they have better defensive teams in front and when they leave the Kings they just have support systems.
Last night Labs made two GREAT kick saves going post to post to keep it 3-0 before the Oilers finally got one.
Garon had a great game...Nagy is still wondering what happened when Garon robbed him...Nagy did everything right, Garon just did it better.
Does anyone know why Peter Harrold was inactive? Did they just bring him up as insurance?
Ted did good. Hopefully he'll play in more games and the announcers will have time to learn his name - it's pronounced "Pur-sill", not "Pur-sell".
Was at the game last night I didn't see Harrold in the pre-game warm-up.The Kings are much better than there record. It's too bad the team has dug itself such a hole because they could challenge for the playoffs.I'll be in Calgary Friday night and am predicting another Kings victory
I enjoyed that game. I can take losing if they play hard, and they did play hard last night. Impressed with Purcell and Calder among several others.
LaBarbera was OK. A lot of blown opportunities from the Oil- he made some great saves but left a lot of second chances by being out of position. He still cannot play the puck either.
That being said, it was one of their best games of the year.
Great point Dan H. about the system and team being at fault as opposed to the
goaltender. Garon who sucked according to some actually had a winning record as a King. Look at his record while he was with team as opposed to the record when he was not in goal. His biggest problem with Kings was staying healthy and Crawfish.Crawfish was a Cloutier guy and that was part of the problem. Cloutier was never more than an average NHL goalie at best even with
Canucks. The biggest problem Lombardi will haveas GM is solving goaltending problem. If Brnier is not the answer I do not like their chances.
He traded Kiprusoff to Calgary for a 2nd round pick in one of his worst moves ever. Giving Cloutier an extension was almost as bad although we haveto wonder how much Crawfish had to do with that one. Last night was a suprisingly easy win but lets see if it turns into anything more. The only thing consistent about this team has been their
inconsistency.It is much
easier to play well now that the playoffs are a dream andthere is less pressure. Players are now fighting for jobs next year.
I'm with Mark - why call up Harrold if we aren't going to play him?? I thought Klemm is our "insurance d-man." Trade soon maybe??
Anybody else think we should trade Blake and Nagy while they are healthy and playing well??

Yes, DL will grab a D-man with what ever pick they have in the draft. Makes sense, per NYKINGSFAN and also as both Schenn and Doughty played well Hickey on Team Canada (Schenn was Hicks line mate.) If DL plays his hand well, and if he has the No. 1 overall pick, he would be wise to trade down with someone like Toronto (who would undoubtedly jump for Stamkos) and pick up extra assets. Could you imagine coming out of the first round with Schenn/Doughty, Colin Wilson and Stefanovich?
Alas, June is still a long way away. Does anyone else get a creeping feeling the Kings are going to get on a roll and play excellent hockey, only to run out of games and end up picking 11th again?
Dan H...
Garon was 2nd in the voting for MVP...of the OILERS!
As for Harrold's call-up (and demotion), the Kings only had six other healthy D-men, so if one got sick Tuesday, they were screwed. He's got a game tonite in Rockford, then is likely to be back for Friday if Dallman isn't ready.
metalmaster said: "The biggest problem Lombardi will have as GM is solving goaltending problem. If Bernier is not the answer I do not like their chances.

Metalmaster, Lombardi did not trade Kiprusoff to anyone. Lombardi was fired by San Jose on March 19, 2003. The new GM then traded Kiprusoff to Calgary on November 16, 2003. San Jose has been going slowly down hill (except for adding Thornton) every year since they fired DL, their loss.
I would trade Blake and Nagy between now and the all-star break. The reality is we're not going to the playoffs. It would also give a chance to Purcell or Harrold to get regular playing time on the big club. I like the way we've played, but if we can add some future depth or draft picks, the best time to do it is when these guys are playing well.
I also agree that DL will trade down and acquire even more depth in this draft. Maybe he can package that depth for a good young defenseman. I trust he knows who he wants at this point, or at least have a good idea.
I watched the center ice feed from Edmonton too. The announcers made a couple of interesting comments. First they said Crow told Garon when he left LA that he was sorry he didn't play him more!!!! And second they said Vis leads the league in turnovers (i think). Pretty sad. What happened to the Vis of the last two seasons???
Ethman,
Crawford and an "A" happened to him. I have no clue why anyone would give Visno an "A" when he doesn't talk much, and still doesn't talk very good english. Just another reason why Crawford should be gone at the end of this season!
I sure hope Morris is our next coach. Since we are still a young team with young players, trying to find ourselves. Having a young coach with fresh new ideas is exactly what I think this team needs right now.
