YoungGuns Game

The rosters for this year's YoungGuns Game during All-Star weekend are expected to be announced tomorrow. Jack Johnson and Patrick O'Sullivan are candidates to go for the Kings. Both are a little antsy to find out, so they can at least make their plans. If Johnson is chosen, he will have to cancel his plans to visit his girlfriend, Sarah, in Minnesota. He already has a plane ticket. He and Sarah have been dating on-and-off since middle school.

``I think it would be cool to be there and see some of the big all-stars,'' Johnson said. ``I'd try to be behind the scenes because I'm one of the young guys, but I'd try to watch it and take in what I can.''

Johnson turned 21 on Sunday. He said he spent the night with family. His parents and brother came in from Michigan for Christmas and stayed for the homestand so they'd be around for his birthday. He had a home-cooked meal and a Bud Light, his first beer of course, to celebrate.

Anze Kopitar participated in the YoungGuns game last year and this season is in the real game.

Bud Light? I figured Jack to be a little manlier than that.

Off topic a bit but I just wanted to thank you Matt for all of the incredible updates. You took off right where Rich left off. Seriously, you rock.

I'm sure that if he doesn't get to see his GF, the money he spent on the ticket really won't hurt his wallet too much.

I think Sully really deserves to get in based on recent play, and i think JJ should definitely get in b/c there aren't much great young defensemen.

first beer? uh-huh. then again, i'm 18 and don't drink, so i'm not in a position to talk. congrats!

anyway, i think JJ has a better shot to get in just because he's been more hyped. i also think sully absolutely deserves a spot give his play of late.

Of course, O'Sullivan is in his THIRD year as a pro, so despite Matt's intimation that he was a "candidate," it's likely, based on who was chosen, that he was never even eligible.

dbushik said:

So, is it sadder that it was his first beer or that it was a bud-lite?

You'd figure an NHLer would be able to afford something that was actually good...

Matthew Kredell said:

Marc, last season was O'Sullivan's first in the NHL. Where is this third year?
