Player post-game interviews
Make sure to check out the Teddy Purcell interview. He's got some great stuff on his first NHL goal and how he found out he was getting called up. Nagy talks about his injury. It looks like it's going to be at least another week before he can even begin skating, and that might be optimistic. Frolov talks about his brother coming in from Moscow to watch his first NHL game. Sergei Frolov was in the locker room after the game getting Kings players to autograph a No. 24 jersey. Just for fun, I threw in a quote from Rob Blake's favorite player -- Jarome Iginla.
TEDDY PURCELL
``I got a text while sleeping last night from Hextall. He texted me and said to bring some clothes to the rink, you might be coming up tomorrow. I kind of got excited and woke up and couldn’t get back to sleep right away. Then Hubie called me at 6:50 this morning and said you a got flight at 10:30, so I packed it up and got out of there.
``I got the text at like 1:30. I was sleeping but had my phone on loud because it’s my alarm in the morning. I was like who is texting me at this time? But it's pretty nice. I can get used to waking up to that text.''
On first NHL goal: ``It's pretty special. I got a little stint of five games last month and had some opportunities, hit the post. To get a good pass by Calder in the slot tonight and bury it was really nice. It's a little weight lifted off my shoulders and a little less pressure, so it's nice to get that out of the way.''
On contributions from players up from Manchester lately: ``We're having some success down there. To chip in up here offensively is nice and kind of makes us feel like we belong. The guys up here are doing a real nice job making us feel like part of the team. It's always nice when secondary guys chip in and help the team get a win like this.''
On how this could be another short stay: ``Kind of like last time, you're on pins and needles. You just kind of hope for the best. If you think about it too much, you’ll just drive yourself crazy. So just play well, control what you can control and work as hard as you can. I know I've got a lot of things to work on but it's always nice to get up here any chance you can, no matter how long it is.''
ALEXANDER FROLOV
``My brother lives in Moscow. This is his first time in the U.S. and first NHL game. He used to play hockey in juniors but quit. He's three years younger, 23 years old. I really like my brother and was excited for him to see me play.''
On playing well of late despite nagging groin injury: ``The groin is still there, still bothering me and isn’t getting better, but I'm finding a way to play well through it. It's not just me playing good. The whole team is playing much better. We're feeling much more confident and comfortable on the ice and we feel pretty good about ourselves right now. Our record in the last 16 games (10-5-1) is probably one of the best in the league.''
DEREK ARMSTRONG
``Obviously we’re disappointed about where we are in the standings but we can’t look at it like that. We’re a young team and the most important thing is to continue to grow. We’ve been taking steps forward, and I think that’s what is most important.’’
On having five goals in the past 16 games after not scoring in the first 27 games of the season: ``You obviously don’t want to start like that. It was very disappointing. I'm trying to get to the net a little bit more. It's too bad I couldn’t do it a little earlier but that’s how the season goes. You can't look at the past, you can only look at the future.''
PATRICK O'SULLIVAN
On play of Boyle and Purcell: ``Both of these guys are good players and they're going to be good players in this league for a lot of years. I think for them to come up and be successful is great. I don't think a lot of people realize how good the young players are on our team, and how good we're going to be in the future.''
LADISLAV NAGY
On his procedures: ``They put a needle in my neck and gave me an injection of some sort of steroids. The first one helped a little bit but the second one didn’t do much.
``I'm trying everything to get better. I'm much better than at the beginning. The first 12 days I was taking pills that didn’t help at all. I couldn’t sleep. I was taking sleeping pills. Right now it’s better but when I put my head back there's still pain through my back, through the triceps and shoulders.
``I ask the doctors when it's going to be better, when I can start skating, and they don’t know. It's tough because I want to play. I had one shot last Friday and the first shot a week before that. For sure I’ll have another probably Tuesday or Wednesday. Hopefully that one will help and I’ll be able to get back to skating by the end of the week.''
JAROME IGINLA
``We had some really good games but tonight we had a really bad start and gave up some chances. It was a bad first period and it carried on. We didn't do anything the first 10 minutes and they took it away in the second period. We're usually physical in the first period, but in this game we weren't.''
Hey Jerome, can you influence your GM to pull off a trade? Cammi & Blake for Phanueff. Did I spell his name right. We'll even toss in Wilsie, Thornton, and Dallman, free of charge.
Your work is greatly appreciated. Thank you so much Matt! Keep up the great job!
Good Work Matt.
Look forward to the interviews and the insight.
The best part of Fro's game is his wife at every game. That woman is beautiful. Russian wife website anyone?
Keep up the great work
As a season ticket holder its great to watch these guy guys perform, BUT even the Calgary fan's behind me were asking why are guys did nothing when they took a numbers of runs at our goalie and slashed Brownie . At some point we need to get more protection for this young core of players.
Inside the Kings with Rich Hammond and Matthew Kredell. is an old title. With the work Matt has put in, it should read "Inside the Kings with Matthew Kredell" a King's information web site built by Rich Hammond.
Matt is doing a great job.
Is it me or did the Kings play way better with out Cammie...
