Blues 3, Kings 2
It's a final from St. Louis. A fairly wild ending, with 16 minutes' worth of penalties in the final minute, including a Brown-Brewer fight. All told, the Kings pulled their goalie and had a 5-on-3 advantage in the end, but couldn't really put a good scoring chance on Manny Legace. Somewhat amazingly, the Blues were not whistled for a penalty until 2:09 remained in the game. The Kings killed all three St. Louis power plays and Erik Ersberg stopped 28 of 31 shots. Alexander Frolov scored in the first period and Dustin Brown scored in the second period to give the Kings a 2-1 lead. Johnson scored the game winner with 6:54 remaining in the third. The Kings remain in the NHL cellar, which they could have escaped with a victory tonight, since Tampa Bay lost.
A few more notes and quotes to follow later on...
Freaking kings, God help this team please. We always have a 5 on 3 in the end of a game, and we never get the puck in the net. This team has problem. Get the Powerplay back on track, you can't consider yourself even a MEDIOCRE team if you can't score on a 5 on 3 or may i say a 6 on 3. Damn man. I wish Journalism affected the L.A. Kings, we would win the Cup every 9 out of 10 years.
Did anybody notice Sully's reaction after Cammi's shot was blocked on a 2-1 rush. He just stared at the ceiling and wondered the same thing that everybody else wondered. Why not pass the puck.
What's wrong with an assist.
During the 2-1, the defender clearly approached Cammi and left Sully wide open. Bu Lord Cammi needs the goals. His obsession to score 36 goals (1 more than last season) is paramount to the teams interest.
Not to mention all those open shots his highness missed during the 6-3 and 5-3 power plays were a joke. If I were Crawfish, I'd yank Cammi out of there and put Sully in his place. I think he's got a better shot anyway.
This player makes it too obvious that its all about his stats.
He probably knows he's gonna get traded on draft day, so he's got nothing to lose. Selfish yo-yo.
He kind of reminds me of Rob Blake in a way.
Difference is:
Cammi cares about nothing except his stats.
Blake cares about nothing except his pocket-book.
*caugh* STAMKOS! *caugh*
...don't forget we have played more games than the Lightning so it's not as close as it looks...
Quick thoughts:
- how about Brownie's dumping of the Blues player into the bench
- I thought Ersberg was solid again
- I think Matt Ellis has actually been a good solid pickup
The Kings actually could not have moved out of the NHL cellar even with a win because though they are two points behind the Bolts, Tampa has two games in hand and thus would technically remain ahead of the Kings.
I actually sort of agree with anthony. Scary. But I don't know that Cammi is necessarily being selfish, as much as he's being foolish. If he's going to be the shooter on that 5 on 3, he's got to shoot low and look for traffic and deflections. Two consecutive shots wide where he's looking to go top corner...it's not the way to get it done when time is running out and your net is empty.
We must stay the course, STAY IN THE CELLAR!!!
How did TB get that close to us when we haven't won in 5 games?
Back to the game. Great hit by Brown putting the guy completely over the boards. You don't see that too often.
I have no idea what the officials were looking at during the Brown scufle. I watched the replay over and over and never saw Brown do a thing to Brewer. Brewer was the one punching him uin the back of the head. Just a terrible call by the refs. Crawford's reaction was hilarious.
Tough to get a read on Ersberg's night. Not too many chances against him. I thought he should have made the save on the game winning goal, but thats easy for me to say.
On the Cammy 2 on 1..I have to admit I thought he should have passed the puck to Sully. As Fox and Miller said, its tough to judge that when you're not the one with the puck on your stick.
On the 6 on 3 and after the phantom penalty at the end...way too much passing and not enough shooting. get the puck to the front of the net and everyone crash the net. They left themselves no time to do anything.
This pains me a little but Anthony seem to be a little right about Camy, something that I was really wasn't noticing before he got hurt but I can clearly see now.
Yeah, I'm getting tired of Cammy too.
This scares me but Anthony
I think you are right on about Cammy. I think he has one foot out the door anyway and knows DL will not pay him the kind of $
that he wants it. It will be very interesting to see what kind of value he can bring back.I personally view him as a rather one dimensional player who brings little or nothing to the table when he is not scoring goals but there are plenty of teams in this league that are
offensively challenged and
could use him. St. louis comes to mind for one.
