Jack Johnson out for season
Here's the update from the Kings...
``Jack Johnson suffered a non-displaced fracture to his right foot in the Kings vs. San Jose game on Tuesday night (March 18). He is out for season and he’s expected to resume skating in approximately four weeks.''
Johnson took a puck off the foot during his first shift in the second period last night.
gawdDAMMIT!
Thanks Rich for the update on JJ. That's bad news. Since the season is lost now anyway, maybe for the best for him not to miss these upcoming games.
They have to bring up Richard Petiot. It's too bad Petiot never had a chance with the new regime..he was the heir apparent to guys like Norstrom and Miller.
Nooooooooo! For what it's worth, I thought he played great in his first full season.
Agreed Jon,
Petiot would be the logical choice. He's a hard hitting D-man who knows how to punish a player standing in the goal crease.
He's 25 and has paid his dues in the minors.
Damn this sucks!! but i guess its better it happened at the end of the season then at the beginning!
He played awesome this season IMO. it was exciting to seeh im play.. and his head-fake gets everyone!
it's too bad. I thought he was having an excellent year. but almost nobody is immune to the injury bug, especially defenseman like Jack that play with an edge. it was a good season and he progressed in several areas. I agree with taz42 why do we never ever see Petiot in a Kings uni. absurd
Here's a surprise possibility...Scott Parse.
He's currently at Reading, but they have already qualified for their playoffs. Switch Klemm back to D, play Parse 3rd-4th line, and send him back to the Royals for the start of the Kelly Cup after the Kings season is over.
One thing I firmly believe...it won't be anyone that is considered essential to the Monarch playoff push.
This is a shame since I will be at the games on the 1st and 3rd and was really looking forward to seeing him. But I am glad this happened at the very end of the season at least so he has the whole summer to heal up and be 100% come next training camp.
Petiot will not wear a kings uniform because he is not in the kings future. They will use Klemm on defense. They will not bring up any new defenseman from manchester because they are fighting for a playoff spot.
Wishing JMFJ a good recovery
"I thought he was having an excellent year. but almost nobody is immune to the injury bug, especially defenseman like Jack that play with an edge."
He only played with an edge for like 2 weeks. He wasn't having an excellent year... he was ok I guess. His style of play had nothing to do with the injury.. I think he got hit by a shot from our own player.
Since people are being so negative on here today, I figured I'd join in.
Oh right... Jon Klemm... played defense for like 15 years until the Kings decided to make him a wing... LOL... such a ridiculous team sometimes.
Klemm looked just fine back with Blake last night. I'm sure over the final 7 games or so he'll do the job.
man, too bad. this could help our lottery push, but this definitely isn't the way i wanted it to happen.
so to take over on D... petiot? piskula? klemm? boyle?
(kidding about that last one... i hope.)
Tough deal for the kid, but he'll be back and better next season.
To put it simply, Jack Johnson was the Kings best, steadiest defenseman all season. If it weren't for some other more prolific rookies, he'd be a shoe in for the Calder.
bummer.. but is this really going to affect the kings?
doubtful.
aside from possibly another loss or 2.
It will be Klemmn.I was kind of thinking Harrold
might go back to manchester for the playoff push but that is probably not going to happen now.
One step close to Stamkos.
Too bad for Jack.
And for you scoreboard watchers, Tampa blows a 4-1 lead and gives up 6 in the 3rd. Hopefully not a sign of an end of season collapse...
Too bad for Jack, who was steady, but for the most part not flashy this season.
And too bad for Tampa tonight, blowing a 4-1 lead and giving up 6 in the 3rd.
@Marc Nathan: Klemm has played wing for other teams. It wasn't a Kings "experiment".
No need to worry about TBay
as Kings may not win 2 more
games the rest of the season. JJohnson for the
Calder? He had a ok season
at best. Not as much production on offense as I
thought and a bad +/-. He
has a ways to go but there
is hope.
Yeah, JWTFJ was tearing it up. He didn't score, he didn't hit, he didn't fight. He had worse numbers than guys like Dave Karpa had in their rookie season. He was right there helping this team finish 30th. Don't buy the hype.

I understand being a fan but some of you have a serious case of rose colored glasses...
From the last couple threads:
“Sully's been incredible this year, he's had an awesome season and shown that he has a great capacity for improving his own game.” [Sully has 45 points - really not the definition of ‘awesome’ - and don't you want / expect more than that from your 2nd line center?]
“To put it simply, Jack Johnson was the Kings best, steadiest defenseman all season. If it weren't for some other more prolific rookies, he'd be a shoe in for the Calder.”
These rank up there with some other classics…”Kopitar is better than Crosby” and “If the Kings beat the Coyotes all 6 games we’d be in the playoff hunt.” Uh, even if this happened the Kings would have 74 points and still be 10 points out of the playoffs.
That’s how bad this team is.
Mr. Phaneuf and Mr. Clarke
You guys absolutely get it.
I have wasted some posts up here arguing with the
myopics but they don't seem
to get it. The numbers do not lie and on a team this bad defensively the offensive numbers ain't that good. DON'T BUY THE
HYPE-truer words were never
spoken. Dionne and Bobby are the type of players the
Kings need to turn things
around. If as fans you accept mediocrity then that
is what you will get.
Although he acquired that lame nickname JFMJ, I really didn't see much of the MF. Decent first season, even though he didn't score a goal at Staples. Wishing him a speedy recovery.
Rich,
Any idea who will be called up to replace Johnson? I'm with the majority of the board in thinking it will be Petiot but who knows. I thought for sure with the game tonight, we would have heard something by now.
And before someone chimes in with Klemm will be moved to defense, I'm sure he is also an option but I'm thinking that we need an additional dman to make a total of 7.
Phaneuf and Clarke (probably the same guy posting under different names), you couldn't be further from the truth.
Calder consideration? probably not. Jack openly said he didn't try to do too much, including jumping in offensively, this season. but he racked up a ton of ice time, in many different situations and made relatively few mistakes. he used the body more than people give him credit for. I find that admirable and he played well considering it was a learning year. but comparing JJ to DAVE KARPA? are you kidding me. he's a 1st year defenseman. stop expecting Bobby Orr out of the box.
now you guys are ripping Patrick O'Sullivan? he's been a pleasant surprise this season. 50 points in your 2nd year, coming out of camp as a third line center is nothing to sneeze at. go back and chart Dustin Brown's progress - then give Patty O 2 more years and then (only then) he can be right there too. makes me wonder if some people will get a grip before this season is over or just keep posting garbage over and over to vent their frustrations. yeah, we're in last place. we get it: you're annoyed... who cares
