Kings 4, Preds 1
A good night in Nashville all around for the Kings. Here's the initial Associated Press story...
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -Alexander Frolov scored two goals and the Los Angeles Kings beat the Nashville Predators 4-1 on Thursday night.
Kevin Dallman and Matt Ellis also scored for the Kings, and J.P. Dumont had the lone goal for the Predators.
Neither team scored in the first period when the Predators held an 11-9 shots advantage.
Dumont put the Predators on the board 8:50 into the second period. Alexander Radulov skated down the right side of the slot and fired a shot that bounced off Kings goalie Erik Ersberg to the left. Dumont skated in and shot the rebound in behind Ersberg.
Frolov tied it with 1:17 left in the period during a power play. He skated in from the left side of the slot and put a one-timer low to the right past Dan Ellis.
Dallman gave the Kings a 2-1 lead at 5:02 of third period. Standing just inside the blue line, directly in line with the net, he blasted a one-timer past Ellis high to his glove side.
At 10:23 of the third, Lubomir Visnovsky took a shot from above the left circle that was redirected in by Frolov.
Ellis scored an empty-net goal with 1:53 left.
Notes: The Predators outshot the Kings 38-30. ... The first NHL win for Ellis was against Los Angeles in his only game for the Dallas Stars during the 2006-2007 season. The Kings had been held to two goals or fewer in their previous six games. The teams split the four-game season series.
I'm becoming more and more impressed with Ersberg every game he plays. His rebound control is outstanding. Give the guy the reigns for the rest of the games Crawford. Let Cloutier rot on the bench. You can see the difference in the team when they're playing in front of Ersberg over Cloutier.
DL with two grate finds in
Ellis and Ersberg. He is no longer Dumbardi and we
are ready to roll next season. No changes need to be made. this team will finish 4th or 5th in West Conference.
I totally agree with Petey. Ersy looks really poised and confident and the team seems to respond to him.
He made some really key saves tonight and hopefully his development keeps going.
His ability to gobble up shots is impressive as well.
even their #1 goalie spoke from the bench and was impressed with our golies play...if you have nhl center ice, then you know what i'm talking about!
But what about Sttaaammmmkkkooooos!?
I watched the Nashville broadcast of this game on center ice.
I agree with the first 2 posters. Ersberg looks better and better every game. Dare I say it. He looks like an NHL goalie! GASP!
So at first I thought the Nashville broadcasters were one of the more balanced broadcast teams in the NHL. They talked a lot about the Kings, both what they've done well and where they've been bad.
Then about halfway through the 2nd period I realized that they weren't so good. It dawned on me that Ersberg hadn't made a SINGLE save all night! Every Nashville shot that didn't go in the net either hit the post or the crossbar, or went wide. It wasn't until the 3rd period that I heard them say he made a save. :D
But even they were duly impressed by Ersberg, and by the Kings young offense.
Good win by the Kings. This team is learning how to win when they don't play their A+ game.
Good game for the Kings especially for Fro and Ersy. It's killing Cammy to have everybody else scoring goals. With 7.5 seconds left in the 2nd period and Brown open on the right side, he carriers the puck up the ice so he can get the last shot instead of passing to the open man. He's losing it. He means more to himself than the team and it's sad.
The Kings win!!!!!???
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Since Ersberg was called up, he has made the most of his opportunities. There might be a healthy competition for the number 1 spot if ersberg continues to play like he is playing. I watched the game and he was fantastic. Keep it going ersy.
On a different matter, I personally don't want the kings to finish with the worst record. I don't want to be disappointed if they don't get the first overall selection. Last year, the first overall selection went to the team with 4th worst record - the blackhawks. As long as they get a top 2 selection, that would be awesome fo me.
Impressive road win for the Kings. Good goaltending and good solid D will do that for you.
It shows the team maturing when you can win a road game against a team desperate for points.
Ersberg was solid again. I will say I've never seen a goalie have more shots hit off the crossbar and the post then he does...but hey, thats part of the goalies equipment. He continues to make a case for himself as the #1 next year. Too bad for those of you that don't want to hear it.
As far as the teams maturity...anyone want to give props to Crawford. In my mind, I think he has done well turning this team around.
Example is Sully. The more I watch him, the more impressed I am. He has great hands, great shot, and isn't afraid to take the body.
On Cammy...I'm starting to swing the other way on him. He hasn't been the same player he was in the past. He's been back from the injury long enough. Too bad. I thought he would turn into a prolific goal scorer.
Was a gear game and ya if you have center Ice and watched the game, the announcers OMG sucked lol. They sounded like baseball guys lol. As you watch the season go on and listen too all the announcers you really start to understand that Foxie and miller are just the best there is. Good game hope we can spoil a few more teams here.
Harry,
What was said about Ersberg on the Bench??
regarding the Nashville broadcasters:
Terry Crisp is a former player and coach in this league and is probably most well known for having the camera showing him wiping his nose on his tie behind the bench. Nuff said.
On the other hand :)
Pete Weber is an EXCELLENT play by play man, whose previous job includes having been the Kings color guy to Bob Miller prior to Nick Nickson. Pete has great skill as a broadcaster and tremendous hockey knowledge. He is a frequent contributor to XM 204 - Home Ice, and gives Bob props for helping his development over the years.
Praise Pete Weber!
Fair enough Marc, just listing too the 2 of them was interesting at best at times. I think it was the "buba" now and then that was getting to me lol. What i do love is how everyone praises Kopi, cant wait for eveything to click and the team too rock
The preds during I think the second period usually mic up the back-up goalie on the bench (Mason in this case). I didnt hear what he said as I didnt see the game but It was supposedly very high remarks for Ersberg.
PS. Thanks Marc for that link the other day =P
one more thing on Pete Weber, as I am a big fan of his...
He came to LA and participated in the ceremony when Bob Miller got his star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame.
That's class.
The comments on Cammy are dead on. All he cares about is himself. This is the main reason he won't be back with the Kings.
My question is, was the goal Dallman's or Brown's? I've seen it listed both ways.
as per NHL.com, it was officially changed to Brown (his 30th) from Dallman and Preissing.
hey just read the follwing from spectorshockey.net (march 12,2008) forgive me for not just putting link but no computer skills. found it kind of interesting.
"Lisa Dillman recently reported Kings GM Dean Lombardi fielded questions from 700 season ticket holders at a recent meeting, many centered around the team's defense and goaltending. He revealed he was interested in goalie Tomas Vokoun last summer but the Nashville Predators asking price was giving up his first and second round picks in the 2007 draft plus goalie prospect Jonathan Bernier. Lombardi also revealed he was interested in land Chris Pronger from Edmonton two summers ago but part of the Oilers asking price was Anze Kopitar. He also noted that one reason why he didn't try to acquire Ilya Bryzgalov from Anaheim last fall at the cost of a draft pick was "some issues", including reports from Anaheim questioning Bryzgalov's value as a teammate. Lombardi now admits he should've been more aggressive.
SPECTOR'S NOTE: Most of Lombardi's acquisitions over the past year have not worked out well for the Kings, and he'll be under pressure to do a better job of improving the club this summer, otherwise it could cost him his job by the end of next season if the team fails to make any notable improvement."
Nice win by the Kings against the Preds. However lets not forget the Preds have the lowest (by far) league payroll; at least 12 million less than the Kings. But once again will finish ahead of them and have a far SUPERIOR core of young defensemen. This is were Lombardi has absolutely sucked.
some in the Kings organization finally acknowledged that Ersberg may need to be part of the Kings future after this fine win. during a "Kings Talk" from the previous game, about half the callers made some mention of Ersberg. Nickson & Evans' general reaction was "well he's only played 4 NHL games and that does not a career make". fair enough, but even they were heaping praise on him after the Nashville game. and now tonight in Minnesota after one period, 0 GA. Labs, Ersberg, and Bernier are the only goalies we need to be concerned about for next season.
