Kopitar going Hollywood?

This is from contributor Don Fulton....

Kopitar on being mentioned in the same breath as Sidney Crosby:
"It doesn't really matter to me. I'm not here to give interviews or be a big shot,'' he said. ``I'm here to play hockey, and even though it's Hollywood here, there's really not the pressure on the young guys like maybe in Toronto."
On the progress of his game, Kopitar said:
"Overall my game has gotten better. I've obviously gotten more experience, and I'm starting to know the league better, but I still have to work hard every night to succeed."

Can anyone post any highlights of the question/answer session with Lombardi for season ticket holders on Sunday? I hope Rich or other contributors from this blog were able to attend.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one putting these two players in the same category.

With all due respect, Kopi is not even close to Crosby. Don't get me wrong, he has talent, as does Brown, Sully, Johnson and Cammy. The big issue is, Crosby sees the ice in a far more superior way than these other guys. In yesterday's game with the Caps, I was fixated on watching how Sid and Ovechkin never took their eyes off of the puck and how they don't hesitate with either a pass or a shot. They have a confidence with the puck that makes them superior players. Watch how many times in a game these Kings players turn away from the puck in both zones causing them to lose sight of the puck for just a fraction of a second. Anyone who knows hockey will know in that instance the puck is gone and so is the scoring opportunity or the chance to clear the zone. This is not to say that all these young guys with the Kings won't get to the highest level they can, but right now they are still behind Crosby and Ovechkin.

i doubt he'll ever get toronto-like pressure, unless hockey starts becoming big on ESPN again and the kings become a perennial power. we'll see in 3 years...

and i do hope this guy becomes a huge star. he absolutely deserves it...

The only problem with Kopi is that I'm not sure I see "superstar" status with him. I think that he is a fantastic player, but I would probably put him in the same category as a player like Cheechoo. I don't think that Cheechoo had any stand-out years before his partner arrived in Joe Thorton (kinda like Murray with Boston). Kopitar will be a better than average player until he gets a wingman who can help Kopi reach "superstar" status. Unfortunately right now, there does not appear to be any "superstars" jumping up to play for the LA Kings. Oh, well...

I must say i do not see Kopi as a huge star in the NHL
I can see him as a back up gay like Kukoc was at the Bulls with Jordan but the problem is that the Kings have no one like Jordan was.Do not get me wrong i like Kopi a lot i am from Slovenia cca.40 miles from his town but i do not think he is a leadership material, but he could be great back up gay and i bbelive Kopi with: JJ,D.Brown and P.O Sullivan could make Kings shine in about 3 years!

Perfect name... Bozo! Thanks for the insight. You might want to consider the King don't have a guy like Jordan because, well, Jordan plays basketball! So we'll never have a guy like that, k? And no, it doesn't work as an analogy. Comparing the NBA to the NHL is just silly. And by the way, what is a "back up GAY?!"

Love the guy, needs to work on his defensive game. What's wrong with being a Modano or Sakic...that's how i see him in relation to status within the league when he tops out.

Army i think you know what MJ was at the Bulls and you cant compare basketball with hockey i can not help you.I just want to say i do not think that Kopi can leed the Kings as a superstar but he can be a great part of the team.

Good work Bozo. As far as I'm aware the only players that I'd consider to be superstars over the recent years would be Gretz, Messier, Super Mario, Roy, and then maybe Sid and Alex The Great. So whether you think I've missed a few or not, that still means 99.9% of the players aren't uber-super star status.

Thus I think instead of worrying about what KopiStar isn't, I think we should just be thankful that we have an upper upper echelon talent on our hands at only 2 full years in the league.

Furthermore instead of vomiting at the fact that Anze ("Anzeee" of course to our Columbus announcers in the audience) is mentioned in the same breathe as Crosby, let's just be happy that our boy is getting some props.

Go Kings Go. Kings in '09.

There are some comment's from people that don't have any clue about hockey.

1.)Backup player in hockey???
(Just at goltending position)
Bozo Habjan you are obviously not an guy who knows much about hockey.
With NBA comparisons you just proved that.

2.)Cheechoo??? Seriously, why didn't you just choose Modry?? Kyle B???

And finally I am happy if he will pan out like the next Sakic, Modano or Joe Thornton.

Right this down. Kopi is bettor than Sid the Kid. Bettor! In fact I don't think it's close. Sid is good, but can he do waht Kopi does? No.

realitysucks said:

HIPCHECK
You are absolutely right. It is not close. Here are
some things Kopi does that
Sid cannot
1. Be a -18
2. Miss the playoffs
3. Be on the ice when other
team scores the winning goal (tonight for example)
consistently- you want a
list- it is long
4. Play on the worst team in the league
5. Not throw a body check
Seriously he was a steal in the draft and has a nice
future but comparing him to Crosby is absolutely
ridiculous. Ryan Getlaf is
a better all around player.
Hope he develops into a
Modano or Sakic. Crosby has a many points as Kopi
playing in 25 or so less
games.

Hipcheck, you got to be referring to Kopi's ability to speak Slovenian. What exactly does Crosby not do as well as Kopitar? You may want to consider checking their stats if nothing else... including Kopi's +/- at about minus 20.

And, btw, "bettor" is more commonly spelled b-e-t-t-e-r.

I'm amazed with how many 'experts' there are on these posts who "know" hockey so much better than us stupid f's. Yet, here you are following last place losers. I'm just saying...

You are not the only one since there are other people up here who are
clueless as well. Anonymous|pretty much summed it up. Watch a tape
of the game vs. Pittsburgh
and see how Kopitar played.
Maulkin dominated the game
and he is not as good as
Crosby. Have DL call Pitt
and see if they want to trade Sid for Kopi.

trdi said:

Don't mind Bozo Habjan, he said he lives 40 miles from Kopi's home town. That's basically Ljubljana, the capital. They play basketball there, the only way they smell hockey there is, if they buy a couple of retired Canadian players. Hockey analphabets, but they pretend to be Jesenice's rivals. :)

Hipcheck, get back to LGK, they don't get your sarcasm here.
