Modry nominated for award

| | Comments (15) |

Jaroslav Modry has been nominated, by the Los Angeles members of the Professional Hockey Writers Assn., for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy. The trophy is awarded annually ``to the player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey.'' Each team has a representative, and Modry will be the Kings', even though he was traded to Philadelphia last month. For those who aren't aware, Modry played a significant part of this season knowing that his father was in poor health back in the Czech Republic. Modry even took a quick trip overseas to visit his dad but hardly missed any time with the Kings. On the ice, I think it's fair to say Modry exceeded expectations. Jack Johnson had high praise for Modry, his former partner, who managed a plus-two rating on a last-place team.

Thank`s Rich for all your hard work! I wasn`t a big fan of Modrey over the years, but he proved me wrong.I thought he was our best D-Man this year.Kudos to him.Hope his Dad is doing better.

Way to go Modry, your play this year was phenomenal compared to our other defensemen accept for JJ.

DL told me @ the GM'S breakfast that he might try to sign Modry back

I'd like to see him get it. In spite of how a lot of fans felt about him, he served the Kings well. Agreed with Old Man, he was our most consistant D-man this year. He didn't have a chance of signing next year so all works out in the end, we got a good 2nd rounder in a stacked draft for this year. All works out in the end......

I cried when Modry was resigned, but like everyone else who did the same should say, boy did he prove me wrong.

Yeah maybe they should have nominated Cloutier haha.. Because of his poor treatment by the Kings organisation :)

I just wonder something Rich. Everybody in here says its going to be hard for Kings to land some UFA, because no body wants to get here. But is that really true? Before this season DL signed 5 free agents, including some big names in Stuart, Preissing, Nagy and even Handzus (At that time he was considered good). Why cant we land some big names this summer too? What do you think of Wade Redden? Would that be a good signing for us?

ryan oliver said:

I know Wades brother and Wade is not going to come to LA. He hates the team and the fans of LA. He says its from all the fight filled games the two teams have played against each other. I guess he takes it personally. Anyways, Redden is onhis way down in his career, so I hope they don't offer him ridiculous money.

Modry always played with a smile and seemed to enjoy his time here. I hope all will be well with family. It can't be easy being away from home.
However I sure wish he could have cleared the puck more for us.

each team gets to nominate one guy, and ours is almost every fan's least favorite, and a player that's not even on the team anymore. talk about par for this season. figures

on the positive side, I think it's great he was able to play and help the team despite his father being in poor health almost halfway around the world. his attitude was not perfect when he was traded back here last season. but this year he definitely "persevered"

Isn't it ironic that the nomination came AFTER Modry was traded???

Ethman said:

I don't understand why everyone hates this guy so much. Not the flashiest player, but one of the better d-men this season for us.
