Here's something from the Philadelphia Inquirer today about Jaroslav Modry's situation.

Modry oping with ill father

I'm expecting an update on Jack Johnson sometime in the next hour.

My heart and prayers go out to the Modry family. It's never easy dealing with a parent who has been struck with any form of cancer. Having gone through it with my mom who was diagnosed early (breast cancer) and now has a clean bill of health and my mother in law (breast cancer) who eventually succumbed to it. I understand breaking down and really feeling helpless. I can only imagine what it's like for an athlete who is gone from home all the time not to mention being on another continent. I know we ride these guys really hard sometimes, but, regardless of the situation we have to always take a step back and remember that these athletes are only human too.

"...these athletes are only human too." I was thinking the very same thing the other day while reading some of the comments. I agree 100%. These dudes are out there doing it. That's hard. We're sitting on our butts, in front of a monitor criticizing. That's easy.

It's one thing to critique behavior, or in an athlete's case, their performance. It's entirely different to personalize it. "Lubocrap"? “Dumbardi?” What kind of childish BS is that? It says more about the writer.

I’m a fan who’s been fortunate to meet some players through the years. I think the more contact you have with them, the more you realize they are just hard working (and usually very polite and gracious) dudes who are just trying to make a living for the family. Just like us. Imagine that.

Classic. 19 comments about JJ and 1 about serious life issues. Goes to show the maturity level of this audience. Love sports, love the Kings but keep it all in context.

Thanks for sharing the more important things =in life. My prayers are with Modry and his family. This is way more important that Lubo having a bad day or what did Cloutier say. Certainly puts it in perspective, doesn't it?
