More from Ersberg
The Kings were ravaged by injuries in goal this year. Asked if he needed to make a statement with the Kings now, Erik Ersberg said:
``There were many goalies here, but when you get your chance you have to take it, so to speak. I have to try to do my best while I’m here. I just have to play my game. I can’t change anything just because I’m here. I’m not going to help them if I change too much at this point.’’
Congrats Ersberg on your first shut-out of your young career!
Sign him to an extension... I don't care how long...5 years...10 years...whatever...
This is what I've talking about for a whole year. Ersberg has had bad defense in front of him since he's started playing. The difference is no blow outs, all close games and a win with +40 saves tonight. +40, that's how bad our skaters played tonight and that's what good goaltending will give us. If Clouts was on net tonight, we would have been down 4-1, if not more, facing the same shots Ersberg faced. So stop making excuses Cloutier lovers, this is what good goaltending is.
what a great 1st start at home... awesome game for Ersberg, not to mention the Kings coming off that roadie.
Bye Bye Labarbera
Adios Cloutier
Best goalie I've seen wear a kings uniform in a long time.
Why is it whenever the Kings win a game, some say the other team was just playing terrible? I think Ersberg looked absolutely like a #1 goalie out there tonight and that was in spite of the usual bad D. He sure has made a statement by what he's shown the last 2 times he's made an appearance with the Kings. DL just may have stumbled onto his one solution in goal. Love this guys calmness and lack of getting rattled under pressure.
He worked hard for this win tonight and deserved this shutout.
So far he's looked good. His technique, rebound control and glove hand seem to be solid. I would say after about 15-20 games we'll know if he's legit. That enough time for other teams to develop a scouting report on him and isolate any weaknesses. If he responds well once teams focus weaknesses then we've got ourself a gamer.
Ersberg for President
Hey mrk, where are these Cloutier lovers you are talking about? I havent seen them in a couple years. And I dont think the forwards played bad. I think the exact opposite. Sure the team gave up 40 shots, but how many spectacular saves did Ersberg make? 2,3 maybe. The whole team played unbeleivable defense and kept most of the shots to the outside. And when you have a goalie stop the shops that he is supposed to, they get a win.
Jill. Good stuff. Ersberg is a good late-season story. The youngster from Sweden looks like he can play!
Woohoo, good win for the Kings i went to the game with my cousin and uncle. Awesome night for Ersberg, Wtg on 1st star 1st win and 1st shootout. I honestly was pulling for the OT, i dunno why but then i realized who needs OT when this guys 1st win could be a shootout. WTG ersberg you deserved it, i didn't think any of the Kings skaters played strong games, except Ivanans. Kudos to that Fight Raitis .
Did anyone cover the game tonight???
Anyway, Ersberg was fantastic tonight. I can't imagine what the score would be if Cloutier was in net.
Bring on Montreal!!!
I have to agree with Anthony, best goalie in the Kings uniform, i think this dude is a number 1 netminder, i mean come on he's played awesome, he's played what 3-4 games, he's been solid, kept the team in the game, way to go Ersberg , we may have found our goalie next year...i think all of us kings fans have some hope unlike those crap teams like the Leafs, even though they are starting to shine!
perfectly stated, ryan oliver...this was easily the best the Kings have played defensively all year. There were very few difficult shots or stretches where the Sens controlled the puck while our D ran around for two minutes before a goal or penalty. The Kings (for the first time in years, it seems) were able to clear the zone fairly regularly...even Cammy was back there working hard to clear the zone. And this was against the league's highest scoring team.
Just proves they can do it if they ALL work at it. Now let's start winning some of those faceoffs after Spongeberg soaks up the shots.
Ersberg has played quite well, but wow, how quickly people anoint him the savior. Give him some time, folks, to show what kind of consistency he has.
As for the rest of the team, this was a big win. When was the last time the team ground out a 1-0 win (effectively, minus the empty-netter with seconds left)? This is the kind of game this team couldn't win earlier this season. Signs of development...

it's a bit true, but we saw the same thing with Bernier who was only here on a trial basis, with at least a 90% certainty he'd be sent back to juniors this year. Ersberg is really solid fundamentally, doesn't seem to give up rebounds, was already a pro in Sweden (a pro league more similar to the NHL than the AHL) and has a good head on his shoulders - plus really nothing to lose. I think Kings fans realize he would be an awesome addition to the team this year and we need to dump you-know-who ASAP. however annointing him #1 for 08-09 is seriously premature. a healthy (double hernia!) Labs, Ersberg and Bernier all need to come in and compete for the job and push each other during the entire camp this fall, with Bernier likely relegated to the AHL for his first professional season.
Spongeberg - awesome nickname already... lol
