Marc Crawford fired

| | Comments (22) |

Updates to follow...here's an initial quote from Dean Lombardi:

"We appreciate Marc's commitment the two seasons he has been here," said Lombardi. "However, we believe that in evaluating where we are at and, more importantly, where we are going as an organization, we feel this coaching change was the right decision to make. We wish Marc the best in his future endeavors."

John Tortarella, welcome to LA!

FINALLY! I can stop the bandwagon. This had to be done. Good luck to Marc wherever he goes, but this was necessary. I was hoping for Ron Wilson, but the Leafs were paying more attention than we were. Looks like Tortorella's on his way to the other coast. He'll work these guys over if they don't perform instead of 'counseling' them. Looking forward should be interesting.

Dave Lewis?

There must have been some kind of backroom disagreement between Lombardi and Crawford on the direction the Kings are headed. Otherwise, why wouldn't they have fired Crawford right after the season ended. Maybe Lombardi didn't like the writing Crawford was doing on the Stanley Cup playoffs, thinking he should be focusing on the Kings more during the off season. I also think that Lombardi never forgave Crawford for insisting on bringing Cloutier in and handing him the job, Lombardi took the heat for that but Crawford was the instigator on that deal.
I look for a motivational young players coach to come in, sit down Melrose I'm not talking about you.

WOW,
I MEAN WOW,
I REALLY MEAN WOW.

I wasn't too disapointed with him.
Other than his circus line juggling, I thought he did an adequate job.
Other than that 8 game losing streak, the team played .500 hockey.
I give him credit for adjusting Patrick O'Sullivan into more of a complete player.

But you can't blame a coach for his team's performance when you have a list a D-Men that Crawford had to work with.
It was Lombardi's job to provide his coach with the right players.

But that's neither here nor there.
I feel for Crawford and I congragulate him for doing his best with what he was given.
I don't blame him 100% for the team's record in the standings. That blame must be shared with others (particularly Lombardi). Maybe DL is starting to feel the heat himself.
Could Ron Wilson or Randy Carlyle or Jaques Lemaire done any better?
I'm not certain.

But I do agree with Lombardi on one thing. I drastic change was necessary.
I was hoping for a major trade.
I believe next season will be a do or die season for DL. If the team ends up 28th or 29th overall. He's gone too.

Best of luck to MC and his family.

Any rumors as to who would be named next head coach.

NMKingsfan,
I think you make a good point.

Who would you like to see as head coach.

i think tortorella has to be the guy we're going after, although melrose would cause a lot more media buzz.

Maybe Morris is due for a promotion since he's been working with the kids for the last couple of years.....

THANK YOU JESUS!!!

Now if he can take his beachball with him...we'd be in 100% better shape than we were two seasons ago...

Daniel said:

I am glad to hear this. Not that MC didn't give it his best, it just wasn't a good fit from the beginning.

Oh, and Anthony - Mark Morris turned Sully around, in Manchester, not MC.

I hope Torts or Morris get the job.

I still blame him for Cloutier.

Why is everyone so shy about saying it? Crawford was a joke. I'm not getting myself too excited until I see who the new coach will be but for right now I am really enjoying this moment. YES!

It's about damn time he was let go...it was inevitable anyway.

So who's next? Mark Morris? Dineen? B-Mel???

Scott Thornton that's no way to talk about your former coach!

Wow! I'm very suprised by this. Considering the shape the team he inherited, he can't be blamed for everything. I would have figured at least a 1/2 season for next year, to see if the team improves. Dean must have someone in mind, or he didn't see eye-to-eye with Mark. Too bad Wilson is already with the Leafs, but John Tortella or Joe Quennville would be great pick-up's. Just say no to Pat Quinn, he already screwed this franchise over once.

Sweet sweet sweeeet. I nearly ran down the block flailing my arms in joy, satisfaction and RELIEF!

I really felt Crawford was a terrible coach for the team. If you've heard me rant about goalies before, you know I'm big on what I see in someone's eyes, and I always saw weakness in MC's. His style is better suited for another club.

I agree with Paincorp, this team needs a coach who will punish these youngsters when they play so poorly, not for lack of talent or experience, but for lack of zest. To me, the team's main problem has been motivation, maybe even moreso than poor D. When I would see the team come out and look like they'd rather be home playing computer golf than on the ice, that is 100% a coaching problem.

And anthony, though I don't vehemently disagree with you as much as some, when you say "Could Ron Wilson or Randy Carlyle or Jaques Lemaire done any better?" that just sounds ignorant. Of course they could have. Would they have won a cup? Probably not, but I would put money on if a caliber coach such of one of those guys was behind the bench, the team sure wouldn't look so lackluster as they did all too many games.

Just look to the Pens-Detroit series. The Pens are the more talented team in my estimation. From what I saw, Babcock put Therrien under his thumb and ground him to dust. I think had Babcock been coaching the Pens and Therrien Detroit, Sid would have his cup at 20 years old.

Anyways, I'm excited to see who they pick. This is a step in the right direction and I feel its going to be better for the players to have a new coach all through camp than having MC for part of the season and then have a major shake-up. This teams needs to move ahead smoothly, and this is a smooth transition.

Good job DL.

Anthony you've been calling for his head since October 6th last year.

I'm surprised at the timing of this. Draft is coming up and you'd think they'd have done this right after the season to get the new coaches opinions.

God I hope it's not another retread like Quenville...there has to be some fresh blood somewhere with passion.
