Tiger Woods on the NHL Part 2
Figured you might be interested to see what Tiger Woods had to say when he spoke at the U.S. Open for the first time since his comment about how nobody watches the NHL anymore.
``Oh, yeah, I've gotten a lot of grief over that. I love the sport. I love watching it, but I don't like watching it on TV. In person, it's absolutely incredible, what they're able to do and what they can do. TV doesn't do justice to that. But then, neither does ... a lot of sports are the same way. It is what it is. I said what I said and I was trying to be funny about it, but people didn't perceive it that way.''

Jill Painter joined the Daily News in 2000 and during the last eight years she's covered the Dodgers, Cal State Northridge, UCLA, Kings, golf and everything in between. Even though she's from Colorado, she still freezes in the Staples Center press box but always manages to thaw her fingers in time to make deadline. E-mail Jill at

What's funny Tiger is that you've completely digressed from your original comments last week.
If you really "love the sport," you wouldn't be trashing it during a press conference and then ask to talk about the L.A. Dodgers instead. Where's the humor there?
The man plays golf and questions whether it is entertaining to watch hockey... I think the simple fact that he is a golfer instantly voids anything he has to say about how exciting other sports are on t.v. I am not knocking golf, but it isn't exactly the most exciting thing to watch on t.v. either...
what the hell does tiger woods know about hockey anyways?
one of the most idiotic comments I've ever heard, I don't care if he was trying to be "funny" or not. when I heard it right after he said that, I thought, "yeah Tiger, too bad nobody watches GOLF anymore" (even though I can enjoy golf, it's not good on TV and the ratings have been declining badly). worse, it's an old mans game and participation is already shrinking, long before the baby boomers are even gone. oh the irony. meanwhile hockey is always growing -- granted maybe the Bettman camp doesn't do the best job of promoting it, but statistics clearly show it's been growing slow and steady in players, attendance, and viewership. then he had to throw in a "let's talk about the Dodgers" at the end for good measure. Dodgers? haven't won a playoff game in 20 years... worse than the Kings and Clippers. how about the Angels (I expected him to say Lakers but Dodgers? c'mon)
Phils going to WHOOP his arse this week!!!!
Hahaha...golf. Hahahaaa
I'm kidding of course. But really..cmon..
Who knew? He backpedals almost as well as he golfs!
