Looks like DL is getting his act together.
This trade is awesome.
We get our second line center and a pretty good kick-ass D-Man
Also the team dumps Lubo-craps rediculous contract.
I'm surprised Dl found a sucker to make that trade.
Last year Lubo-crap played terrible. I mean absolutely terrible.
No way he's worth over $5 Million a year.
He'll never regain his form and play the way he used to.
I also believe that this trade will get Kevin Lowe-life fired. This trade will not make them a better team. And Lubo will tie up their salary cap.
But it made the Kings a a lot better.
Don't underestimate that Mike Greene. This kid knows how to throw his body around. Which is what this team needed and something Lubo-crap has no knowledge of.
Again my hats off to DL. He's doing a 180% and making this team better.
Now don't mess it up by signing that piece of GARBAGE Rob Blake.
We don't need him now. We have more than enough D-Man to grow with.
He's just extra baggage who plays with ZERO passion.
He'd contamonate our kids on the blue line.
as long as the Kings can sign Stoll to a multi-year contract - he will be an UFA after the season - I like this trade. Stoll is 25 and Greene is a big strapping 24. Vishno is 31. Stoll is a gritty forward who can score and Greene is a decent defencemen who will also learn from a guy like Blake. this is now a core group of forwards - all under 27 who can learn, play, and jell together for many years to come. Plus, correct me if I'm wrong, but the Kings free up some cap space to sign Kopi / Sully / etc.
I was hoping the kings would keep Visnovsky he was one my fav kings and now another in a long list of fav players that are former kings, I don't think they got enough back, I hope DL will take on salary from a player teams are unloading only if we can get a 1st round draft pick, at least the future looks bright for the first time in kings history and lets hope the the bright future eventually yields a bright present.
Nooooooo!
I love Lubo sure he had a bad year last year but
Nooooooooooo!
why Dl why i don't know much about the players we got but still
Nooooooooooooooooo!
I was looking forward to him retiring as a king and rebounding this year from his unchartrastic season he had last year.
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
2 things. Did Lombardi just bail on the NTC that would have kicked in for Lubo next year? And isn't Deano the idiot that gave him the 28 million dollar extension, Anthony? How can he be a genius for trading away a totally stupid contract .. when he's the guy that came up with the contract in the first place?
-I like it. I'm all for having a big, mean North American defense.
-Hopefully, Stoll and Frolov find some chemistry together, maybe sign a guy like Kristian Huselius to complete the second line.
-Stoll has a huge shot that was a key component of Edmonton's powerplay (I seem to remember him blasting one by one of our terrible goalies last year).
-Now sign Commodore and only give Blake a contract that requires he wear a suit and I'm happy. (Unless, Blake can regain some form and get mean again)
DL signed Lubo after a GREAT 2006-2007. The contract looked like a no brainer at the time compared to what other All-Star D-men were making. Then Lubo stumbled badly in 2007-2008 and the Kings changed focus to young, scrappier for the future - not finesse (Lubo). DL was forced to "re-tool."
Things change. Good GMs adapt with the times and circumstances. Nuff said. Best wishes to Lubo Cookie. He will be missed. (But hello Stoll and Greene.)
Crash Davis is right on.
Excellent analogy sir.
So Dumbo was right when he gave him a HUGE 5.6 per million #1 dman deal with a NTC, and he was right when he shopped him for 2 role players, one without a contract and one with only a year left on his contract? Things change, but he was paying this guy like he was Scott Neidermayer one year, and trading him like he was Rob Neidermayer a year later. He was wrong at least one of those times.
BB
He was wrong to have signed him to that contract.
I agree that it was rideculous.
But he realized his mitake and took actions to repair it.
Is THIS the WTF trade DL was talking about earlier??? If so...it's working on me saying it...IF we didn't get a pick in there down the road...
I, like most kings fans, love Lubo. Sure he had a horrible season, but I like to think it's the coachings fault for his sub par performance. But the trade w/ Stoll, I can't really complain about. Add Greene to the mix and DL is really starting to look competent. Let's hope they don't turn into another Handzus/Preissing... What IS up with Preissing? Wasn't he a Norris trophy winner candidate or winner 3 seasons ago? Then he turned into a lame duck!
explanation why??????????
LuboCookie was traded last year as he signed that contract extention, but nobody knew DL's plan at that time...why would he sign T. Preissing then, he is a light version of Lubo($5.6 mil.) compared to ($2.7 mil)...
It's a GM's trick, to sign a player to an extension and then trade him before NTC kicks in...Why??? Because it increses value of an asset if the asset is lock up at a decent price for longer period of time...
Same thing happend to Tomas Vokoun in Nasville last year...
so, this might be the explanation why he had such a terrible season (because he knew there is good chance that he might get traded before his NTC kicks in...)
he would probably never signed with Edmonton if he was unrestricted free agent...going from a sunny beach to Siberia...poor guy...
he was kings best defenseman last 3-4 years except the last one...
anyway, we got good return for him and future looks brighter for the kings...
Stuart might be next, probably $4.5 mil for 5 yrs.
Thank you for getting rid of Lubomir Visnovsky yesssssssssssssssssssss
I've always loved Lubo as a player. His off year was more likely than not a coaching conflict.
Here's another Deano trade/pickup where we get damaged goods and crappy contracts in return for a valuable asset (Lubo). I can see Dean locking these guys up to ridiculous contracts, only to have them probably bought out due to concussion problems (Stoll) and irreperable ankle damage (Greene). I hope I'm wrong, but w/ Deans record so far (Bure, Cloutier, McCaulley, Coach Crawford w/ his baggage ....any others I'm forgetting???) I just might be right.
What happened to building from within?
Stoll, Richardson now take spots from Boyle, Purcell and Moulson.
Brown-Kopitar-O'Sullivan
Frolov-Stoll-Calder
Richardson-Handzus-Purcell
Ivanans-Armstrong-Ellis/Zeiler
Where do Boyle and Moulson fit now?
Nick- building from within does not mean you turn a blind eye to the outside world.
Anon D- Lombardi didn't sign Bure; Taylor did.
Lubo was one of more most productive and solid defensemen for years prior to last year. One bad season does not necessarily ruin a career. Yes, it is possible he is just going downhill from here but if a change of scenery allows Lubo to get back to his prior form, watch out for EDM's blueline. Pitkanen, Souray and Visnovsky ? Forget about it !
Obviously, the direction of this franchise is to get younger.
That's why Dean held on to his high picks.
Lubo, one of my Favorite Kings players, is 31, no size, finesse d-man, etc. He PROBABLY will never match his 05/06 point totals. He was also unreliable at times.
We got 2 YOUNG players with upside, and grit, who are both going to add to this team components that we didn't have.
Any Kings fans out there who think DL is retarded for this move are just having sentimental thoughts about Lubo. I do too, but I also realize this is a SMART (maybe not popular) move.
Just look at other message boards that Oil fans are on and see how much they loved Stoll. We will love him too. Lubo you will be missed. Good luck in Edmonton.
Not to mention we have way more cap space to sign Kopitar, Johnson, O'Sullivan, etc, and possibly a key Free Agent or 2.
Every player has a bad year. Lubo's was more a product of Crawford's coaching, than a complete collapse. That being said, this fills a few holes. Now, either Stoll or Handzus will compete for #2/#3 center, and the D gets the stay-at-home punisher desperately needed. I'm concerned that this will hurt Brian Boyle's chance for a regular shift at center, though. I also like that it opens a spot for Doughty or Hickey, as they'll need an offensive D to replace Lubo. Blake should be re-signed, we need him to mentor the young defense. If, both of Blake & Stuart re-sign, then Doughty and Hickey won't be here. 7th D-man is no place for two future franchise D-men....
Just because the kings are building from within doesn't mean that the rookies are guarenteed a spot. The rookies still have to earn their spot and pay their dues. Now to play in the NHL, the rookies must actually beat a proven NHL player.
Well i hope this "getting Younger" philosophy applies to Blake as i don't want to see him resigned even at 1 mil per.
