Harrold signs
The Kings have signed restricted free agent defenseman Peter Harrold to a three-year contract. I'll try to get the money on that at some point but I'm still out of the loop this week.
Also... the Kings are not trading Anze Kopitar. Please, folks, just stop this stuff. All you're going to do is give yourselves ulcers. It's just absurd, as are 98.4 percent of all rumors.

Rich Hammond has covered the Kings, on a full-time or part-time basis, since the 2000-01 season. He was the beat writer for the entire John Torchetti era and has witnessed Bob Miller singing country music in a Nashville honky-tonk bar. A native of Los Angeles, Rich has worked at the Daily News since 1999 and also serves as the paper's deputy sports editor. E-mail Rich at

Rich, where do you get 98.4 percent...the current rumor has it at 93.2 percent.
Not Bad.
Not Bad.
He's paid his dues in the bush league.
And he was a Plus -3 last season.
Since most of you guys have convinced me that we're not a playoff team yet, I wouldn't mind seeing him get some experience in the NHL level.
One thing is for sure, I'd rather have him than a bridge player like Markov, who would have returned back to Russia in 12 months.
I just hope he doesn't get used like a utility player - ala Kevin Dallman.
Was this a one or two way contract.
How much $.
So when is Deadmarsh coming back?
Rich, you're the man.
Thanks for putting to rest a rumor that never should have gotten out of bed to begin with. The sane Kings fans knew that no right-minded GM in the middle of a rebuild would let a young #1 center (let alone team and fan favorite) go for any price.
but Rich, the floor!!! What about the floor!!!! I lost sleep this weekend, and I think it was because the Kings aren't close to the floor!!!! or I may have been drinking too much... can't remember.
Come on, Anthony. Bring your insight and incredible hockey acumen to bear on this signing. Tell us how lame it is. Tell us how DL is wasting his time on a signing like this, when he should be locking up O'Sullivan for the next 25 years.
Rich, I think just for the fun of it, you should post a "reliable rumor" you heard, saying Ottawa is about to send Jason Spezza and Daniel Alfredsson to the Kings for Tom Preissing and Jeremy Roenick's old skate sharpener. We'll put up a pool on how long it will take to end up in the Ottawa Sun. I'm taking 3 days after its posted. Any takers?
I've already had my ulcer.
What about the Sully rumors, he's been rumored to go to more places than Elvis.
Shame you're out of town Rich... a spaceship landed on top of Staples Center and dropped Ray Emery off on his way to the Ukraine. ;)
i'll take the under.
I wish Deader would at least be at the Kings' fantasy camp then I'd sign up!! but I know he has said he gets some recurring symptoms from any rigorous exercise
Hi Rich, thank you for putting to rest this non sense regarding Kopitar. I do have a question for you, why did DL look so unhappy at the press conference when they were introducing Murray. Please share any information you may have or what your speculation might be. DL didn't look to pleased....
I hope Emery doesn't rent a car to get to LAX...
Anthony, thanks for your amazing sense of humor! I like the idea of Sully and Elvis hanging out together, actually.... And I've already had 2 uclers to your one, so I'm right there with you.
And Rich, as always, you are amazing. With your dedication to the Kings, I'd make you the captain if you could skate!
nice move. he's an NHL-caliber defenseman, and we definitely don't have too many of those yet.
SuperSonic: you forgot a few people. Dany Heatley was coming here, and Lauri Tukonen was going there. remember that they need a prospect with tremendous upside to appease their fan base!
I dug Harrold's play. I can easily see him getting better and being a solid #5 guy. I like that it's a three year deal, giving him the time to develop some more at the NHL level. The signings are slowly falling in to place... only a matter of time.
And people, aren't you all forgetting the best possible trade of all for the Kings? Bernier for Khabibulin, straight up! Then we send Tukonen to the Ducks for half of Schneider's contract... not actually for him to play, he'll remain on the Ducks and we'll just pay half his salary so we can get to the cap floor... since it's so obvious there are no legitimate ways to get there...
per TSN " TUKONEN traded to Dallas for Clune " wow 1st round pick for echl player... nice going DL ...WTF
As expected, DL trades away Lauri Tukonen for a bag of pucks.
Tukonen's been dealt -

we can't send Tukonen to the Ducks. This just came up on TSN

the kings has a made a trade. They trade for left wing Richard Clune from Dallas in exchange for right wing Lauri Tukonen. what in the world is Lombardi thinking. i don't get this trade. you gave up a former 1 rounder who is just 22 or 23 for a guy who don't put up any number at all in AHL. Maybe what Lombardi try to do is trade all the guy that Taylor draft and replace it with his guy so maybe the trade rumor about Kopital is true after all.
And Tukonen traded to Dallas.....tsn.ca/nhl

My earlier post got cut off but Tukonen cannot be a part of those "realistic" trade proposals because he has been traded to Dallas for an ECHL prospect. Really.

I guess we may have to part with Andrei Shefer then!
STARS ACQUIRE TUKONEN FROM KINGS FOR CLUNE

What the F kinda trade is this?????????????????????
Sadly, it was just a matter of time before the outrageous and un-informed trade proposals/rumors made their way to this blog from the Roller Derby site. It was fun while it lasted here.
Rich, theres still time to shut it down before we are totally over run here! ;-)

Brett Hull strikes again!! Actually not a bad trade for Dallas. With that system, Tukonen will probably do well there, and end up being the next Lehtonen! Ok, thats a lil far fetched, but WTF is Richard Clune?! Guess the Reign are gonna need some small enforcers with little offensive upside?
that was an expected trade as tukonen never did appear in DL plans for the kings. Clune will be a nice addition in manchester/reign but I dont see him as an future kings player. Its just a swap of "prospect".
Tukonen was never going to see Staples Ice. His stock was falling. His work ethic was non existent and he was backsliding.
I heard a rumor that Lombardi is trying to trade Rich Hammond to the Ducks..... Seems they want a Duck Web site as good as the Kings. I think they will give Lombardi a used Zamboni and the Duck mascot. I think its a bad deal.
If Kopitar is gone, so will I and many many other fans as well. I don't think DL would even consider moving Kopitar. Unless he gets same caliber player(s) in return. Kopiter is only 20 years old. And he has many great years ahead of him.
It must have been a Chicago fan who started this rumor. I can't blame him for wishing for such a trade.
Even the absent Kings owners would get involved and prevent such a move. I don't think DL has lost his marbles. I hope not.
Roger
Peter Harrold=Really poor man's Brian Campbell. Just you watch.
bit late here, but the sooner Harrold is a #7 dman the sooner the kings are looking to do some serious damage in the playoffs. on a good defense, harrold wouldn't crack the top 6. as long as he is a top 6 on the kings, the kings D will continue to be at the bottom of the league. he's good enough to fill in for injuries or to give guys breaks.
