Rich Hammond has covered the Kings, on a full-time or part-time basis, since the 2000-01 season. He was the beat writer for the entire John Torchetti era and has witnessed Bob Miller singing country music in a Nashville honky-tonk bar. Jill Painter joined the Daily News in 2000 and during the last eight years she's covered the Dodgers, Cal State Northridge, UCLA, Kings, golf and everything in between. Even though she's from Colorado, she still freezes in the Staples Center press box but always manages to thaw her fingers in time to make deadline. E-mail Jill at jill.painter@dailynews.com.

What a steal. I'm really suprised hes not a King. Lombardi spoke that he was looking for a transition goalie. He would definately fit the bill.
Looks like Tampa, or I should say "Tanka" is trying to be this years Flyers. From worst to first. It all started with them tanking to get Stamkos. Hope it all backfires on them
Kolzig is very overrated at this point in his career. Has anyone seen his numbers? I'd GLADLY take Barbs over him. Labarbara's Save % > Kolzig's Save %.
nice, cheap insurance policy for mike smith.
Nothing officially from the team but it is believed the Lightning already has made contact with representatives for left wing Radim Vrbata, who scored 27 goals last season for the Coyotes, and goalie Olaf Kolzig.
Makes sense. Vrbata's stock took off when Brian Rolston turned down the Lightning's offer. As coach Barry Melrose said this morning, he could play the right side and the second-unit power play. He also is good on the penalty kill, and was plus-6 last season.
