Prospects camp

| | Comments (29) |

The Kings' prospects camp is underway today in El Segundo. It's just getting started with on-ice workouts, so there won't be much to report today, but I expect to get interviews with many of the prospects this week, along with a daily report from Jamie Kompon, who is the primary coach in charge of the camp. He should be able to give a quick view, every day, of what's going on and who's looking good. I'm hoping to get out there myself on Friday and Saturday to get a first-hand look once things really get going. Anyone who's down there and has some observations is absolutely encouraged to share them.

I'd like to see a Justin Azevedo interview.

How about a Thomas Hickey interview. Does anybody know if he's skating/healthy?

Thanks Rich!

Without a doubt, Doughty!
Thanks Rich for all you do.

Excited to hear from the prospects. The two I most want to hear from are Simmonds and Moller!

Voinov and Loktionov would be interesting too (assuming they speak enough english) to tell us their take on the new Russian league. Also curious about the impact Azevedo thinks he can have.

I hope to make it down there this weekend and/or for the scrimmage althoguh its frustrating that the scrimmage is at 3 on a weekday.

Godsend...I typed it into my Outlook and then hit the "synonym" tab. I got the following, "blessing, boon(???), stroke of luck, bonus, benefit."

These are all great words/phrases to describe the Almighty Rich Hammond...even "boon," I guess.

Keep up the great work!

Rich,

Grap Alec Martinez for an interview, if possible. The way our 'd' is shaping up this year, I think he could see considerable time in LA this season.

Thanks for all the great work!!

Rich,

If you have a chance, how about a video interview with Alec Martinez & Colten Teubert, please?

Interview Geordie Wudrick! That guy can talk a mile-a-minute.

Moller and Hickey.

Just a suggestion, but how about one of those Poll Daddy polls? It might make your work trudging through these comments easier. Thanks again Rich.

Just left after watching Purple group of the forwards and defense.

Doughty made all the defenseman in his group look like kids. He was smooth. Teubert looked pretty good too, and is a better skater than I would have expected. The forwards that I was impressed by most were Wudrick and Moller. Wudrick has a killer shot - he put almost every shot just below the post in the corner and in.

Hickey was not skating, but he was watching from the bench, although he was not in gear or skates.

I am wondering/concerned that the Russians weren't at camp today? Any news on that? Hopefully it has nothing to do with the Russian transfer (dis)agreement...

Hickey please. I want to see if he thinks he has a shotat the big club. Hope he makes it. Well, I think he has to make it. Especially with no Lubo.

Rich any chance you can get video interviews again like last year ?

I post my first and last name because I think I'm really important. said:

Kompon's a good guy and a hard worker, he'll run a good camp!

Bob Bobson said:

Rich, sorry about the duplicate video interview request. I would like to hear from Teubert if he is available.

Hey Rich,

As you mentioned before, will you ask about the whereabouts of Matt Fillier for me?

Thanks a bunch!

Just a FYI to anyone thinking about attending this week. Nash is now a two way street instead of a one way street. You can head north from El Segundo Blvd if that's easier for you, and you can exit north when you're leaving.

Any one of Simmonds, Wudrick, Doughty, Teubert and Azevedo would be nice

Hi Rich, I am so grateful to you for making the summer exciting and full of Kings information. Please keep it up! As with many of the other readers, I am particularly interested in Oscar Moller, Azevedo and Tuebert. There was a lot of great stuff on Wudrick on You Tube as you posted, but more on him welcomed too! These guys would be fun to watch play at the NHL level. Since we're gonna suck anyway, it can't hurt to give them some time to prove their mettle. Also, does Patrick O'Sullivan know how many die hard supporters he has on this blog? I would be curious to know that, or whether you know if he reads the blog. I too was gladdened at the news that O'Sullivan was being addressed with the respect due him as a future star. Thanks again Rich!

Interview SIMMONDS!!!!!!!!!

Like Kingcussion, I was also at the morning skate for forwards and defenseman. I made the same comments regarding Doughty and Teubert to my friends this morning and agree completely. It was disappointing not to see Hickey or Voinov out there. Rich, if you can find out what is happening with Voinov and Loktionov that would be great because both their names were on the rosters that the Kings made available this morning at the rink. There were no shooting drills, just skating and stickhandling. So none of the forwards (or defenseman for that matter) could resist shooting at an empty net after they took their turn in each of the drills. None of them except Moller. Moller was focused and ready to work... when he finished a drill he almost always let go of the puck, skated back to the end of the line and prepared for his next rep. Almost the opposite of Azevedo who looked a little disinterested - or at least not nearly as focused - by comparison. Azevedo's a good skater and you can tell he has a lot of skill, but it didn't seem to bother him very much when the puck would roll off his stick during the drills because it kept happening over and over. I guess I was expecting, perhaps unfairly, a little more intensity from a guy who deserves to have a chip on his shoulder from all the hits he's been taking from scouts due to his (lack of) size.

My request for a video interview would be Wayne Simmonds. Thanks Rich, you rule!

Rich,

The whole town of Sundridge would like to see a video interview of Josh Kidd. Some of the other questions you might want to ask him...
- what was the transition like from the OHL to the Monarchs for the last nine games of the AHL season, knowing at the time the Monarchs were not in a playoff position?
- perhaps comment on scoring your first professional goal, and how your stats seem to have done a 180 as compared to junior. (that would be a toughie for him)
- what are your thoughts this year about prospect camp versus last year when you were recovering from shoulder surgery and could only dry land train (a-la Hickey this year)
Rich, I know you have a great interviewing skills just thought I would add a little background as he is flying under the radar.

Cheers
