Ryder to Boston

| | Comments (10) |

Boston has signed forward Michael Ryder to a three-year, $12-million contract.

That appears to have been the only big move made official during my commute, so we'll see if anything develops tonight. No call yet, so hopefully it's coming soon.

Every bad overpaid signing means more $ for Sully.
I first predicted $2.5 - $3.5 Million.

Now I'm predicting he make $4 - $5 Million.
That is of course he's not offered a contract by another team.

From www.tsn.ca:

"Ryder, 28, scored 14 goals and 31 points in 70 games with the Montreal Canadiens last season. Taken 216th overall by Montreal in 1998, the Bonavista, Newfoundland native scored 99 goals and 207 points in 314 career games."

Reaction: If this guy gets $4 million a year, how much is Kopitar worth? This means Brown is underpaid. Frolov should get $6 million based on this perhaps.

Appears some NHL owners and GM's are pressing the panic button and signing average talent to big contracts.

I take back everything negative (well, almost everything) I ever said about Lombardi!

Hahahaha. Great move Boston. What's next, Avery gets $6 mill. per 8 year contract from some team? This is ridiculous.

I know it's a little off the sport, but we are talking about money here. You think hockey players are over paid!? Just heard Josh Paul is looking at an extension in the range of 3-5 years at 60-80 million. Now thats being over paid.

From TFP.com

9:42pm ET - I'll be jumping in the Bruins' call, and will update shortly after it's over... In the meantime, I hear the Kings and Patrick O'Sullivan are trying to work out a deal, but there has been interest from other teams.

I'd like to see us pick up some character veterans for the young guys. Peca and Fedorov should be available for a short term and a low price tag.

Where would you play Peca or Fedorov? The Kings already have Kopitar, Stoll, Handzus, Boyle, Armstrong, & Murray competing for 4 spots.

I would like to use them as 3rd or 4th line centers. PK and Peca for important faceoff draws.
