Still awaiting word
A communique from Dean Lombardi referred me to Jeff Solomon for an update on Patrick O'Sullivan's contract, and the contracts of the other restricted free agents. Hopefully that call will come soon -- tomorrow, if not tonight -- and will have some substance. O'Sullivan's agent, Pat Morris, did not call back today. We'll keep a running count of how many days he doesn't return calls. This is Day 1. There's still not even the hint of a thought that this will end any way other than with O'Sullivan in a Kings uniform, but we'll see what Solomon says.

J.P. Hoornstra writes about NHL and IHL hockey for the Los Angeles Newspaper Group. He welcomes any and all dialogue on the finer points of hockey.

Jill Painter joined the Daily News in 2000 and during the last eight years she's covered the Dodgers, Cal State Northridge, UCLA, Kings, golf and everything in between. Even though she's from Colorado, she still freezes in the Staples Center press box but always manages to thaw her fingers in time to make deadline. E-mail Jill at

Cool. Love the 'non-update' update. Something for my refreshing frenzy. Can't wait to read quotes from Solomon since I have virtually no idea what this guy is like. Never thought I'd be so interested by an interview with a lawyer! Testament to you and your blog Rich.
You are my hero Rich!!!! Sully is not only skilled, but he's the hardest worker out there, and the fact that he's had to overcome so much adversity (including personally) on his climb to the NHL makes be believe he has what it takes to keep improving. I think it would be an absolute travesty if we fail to sign him. I think everyone is worried because DL's pulled some crazy stunts before that left everyone scratching their heads. I'm staying positive this deal will get done. Either way, I'll be proudly wearing my O'Sullivan jersey to every home game next year. Thanks again for keeping us up to date on Sully-watch 2008!!
Thank you sooo much for the effort you put into this site. It is so nice not to rely on that joke of a site; letsgokings.com. Those guys over there have no life. they worship 20 year old boys...which has to make anyone nervous.
What's the count on Sully's agent now? 3 days to return a call.
