Top names still out there

| | Comments (38) |

They include:

Marian Hossa
Mats Sundin
Jaromir Jagr
Sean Avery
Mark Streit
Wade Redden
Kristian Huselius
Markus Naslund
Pavol Demitra
Brooks Orpik

Indications are that nothing is imminent from the Kings. I'm expecting to get Dean Lombardi on the phone at some point.

I'm glad you will be on the phone with Lombardi, maybe you can remind him that today is in fact July 1st.

Don't forget about Blakey!

Tim said:

Rich could you please ask how the contract talks with O'sullivan are going? and how long do you think it is until Mike Gillis makes a offer sheet to O'sullivan?

Anonymous said:

Why does everyone expect DL to sign someone? He has stated that he's not going to go after anyone this year. Get over it.

anthony said:

Sean Avery's name just doesn't belong in that group.
Maybe with Moe, Larry, Culrly.

Any word on Sully.
It's getting to be nervous time here.
Some team is gonna swoop in, you'll see.

Ziggy Stardust said:

You forgot to list Kevin Dallman on there Rich!

CBGB said:

Please ask him, since he is STILL 12-15 mil BELOW the minimum if he will POSSIBLY be making any more deals for picks and players that need to be dumped.

sean avery = not a top name

I heard that the Kings have submitted and offer sheet to Brooks Orpik....

Also, I really wouldn't mind them signing Demitra to a 1-2 yr contract. he could fill out that top six for us on offense with Kopi, Brown, Fro,Sully, and Stoll.

Hey Rich,

Awesome job as always. I've been hitting refresh all day on my browser tracking all this stuff so thanks.

It just occurred to me.... where almost all of the NHL clubs and their GM's have the luxury of having their head coach as part of their decision making in signing these FA's, where does that leave the Kings? Even though the GM is the one who signs these FA's, doesn't the coach have some input?

I know there's a lot of people advising DL at this point but is not having a coach possibly affecting his decision making?

voice of reason said:

All these people clamoring for Lombardi to do more...what should he be doing?

If you genuinely think he should be signing the likes of Hossa or Orpik then you either don't know what you're talking about, or you should pass that ish to the left.

Andrew said:

He still HAS to spend about 8-10 MIL on contracts for next year alone...SOMEONE has to be signed (other than Blake).

wade redden, to the rangers

ryan oliver said:

Redden goes to the Rangers for 6 years 39 million.

Cup B4 I Die said:

Yah, we'll get Demitra for his injury plagued 39 games per season!! But he'll score 41 pts in those 39 games.

What's up with Palffy? Just kidding.

Keep up the good work, Rich!

JDM said:

Avery's name belongs there. He may not be a top player in the league, but he is the best player of his kind in the league.

All those people saying DL wont sign anybody, have to realize they have to sign a couple of players to get to the floor. Currently their payroll is under million. The Floor is at 40..So signing guys like Sully,Stoll, and Blake will still not get them to the floor.

Kevin Allen said:

Voice of Reason,

Why exactly should the Kings not go after Orpik? How would that possibly hurt the team to have a physical top-pairing Defenseman who is entering his prime?

Baumgartner22 said:

redden to NYR

28 KINGS said:

Scratch Redden off the list. He signed with NYR for 6yr, 6.5 mil per yr.

I post my first and last name because I think I'm really important. said:

Stoll/OSully/Ersberg (Esche)/Blake should get them close to the floor.

The most intriguing part of the day is that JAyBo hasnt been moved or signed.

What a awful contract for Redden..6.5 million for him. That is way too much. Doesn't surprise me nowadays

And Tampa signs another player...

When's Kevin Lowe gonna extend an offer sheet to Stoll?

Hey Rich

It says Kings are meeting with O'Sully's agent but not close yet. Could you get any confirmation on this. Hopefully they get him signed & there isn't a bitter taste leftover like with Cammy.

What about Blake?

ryan oliver said:

Right on about Orpik. He had one good shift in the finals, and fantasy GM's start trowing 5 year/25 million dollar contracts at him. Ridiculous. He is a 5/6 d-man at best.

kyle said:

with all due respect to the illustrious names on that list--I don't care about signing them. I do care about getting O'Sullivan on board because his signing will be the first real signal this off-season that the team is committed to keeping the core players here.

voice of reason said:

Orpik is absolutely not worth the money he will be paid.

Rich, I know you dont need any help with questions, but can you ask Lombardi.. obviously about our RFA's, but about his feelings on the Stuart Deal, and The Bridge Goalie (Khabibulin). Thanks for all the hard work.

BART CRASHLEY said:

It was a depressing day today, watching many of the teams in the west get much stronger especially Chicago and Edmonton. And, if the Coyotes can't beat us they can BEAT us to death. I don't get any of the moves we're made. I'm just warming up to the Visnovsky deal on which I think we took too little, but understand the time pressure. After hearing the call with those two guys, I was impressed. But the Gauthier thing, and even thinking about Khabibulin drove me nuts! Someone please explain that to me, cuz I don't get it in the context of our "youth" movement. I agree about Orpik. Why not? Anyway, if they don't sign Sully and he goes somewhere else, I'm going with Gretzky and the Yotes. I still am not convinced these guys are thinking Stanley Cup in the near future (five years). Bart

Jonny Author Profile Page said:

Bart,
Bulin has one year left on his contract and we would get him for Close to nothing, if things work out right. Whats wrong with that?

Moondoggie said:

I do like the idea of getting Demetra back...He may not play a full 82 but at practically a point a game, who cares? We could use him, particularly with our young forwards....

Anonymous said:

Hey...you forgot Willsie... I'm still surprised some poor suc...er...GM hasn't picked him up by now...

BBanzai said:

I Like if we could get Demitra Back for a year or so and at A decent price, instead of thinking Blake should still be anywhere on the team. Priority should be to Get O Sullivan signed ASAP! A goalie would be acceptable siging as a Bridge, but most of the solid ones are gone.

OldKingsFan said:

Can you say Tavares?

We may have missed Stamkos but we will be in the running for Johnnie.

Would it be worth another season of rooting for the "Loss" Angeles Kings to get a shot at Travares?

Because that is what I see happening. Hopeing the kids can step it up another level to compete with the likes of San Jose, Detroit, and now Phoenix not to mention the alsorans in Anaheim and Dallas.
It has to be in the plan Lombardi(good italian boy) keeps referring too

You have to love your kids even when they are ugly.

And I love the Kings

Old Kings fan,

You hit the nail on the head. Let the youngens gain experience and take a hit in the standings. The Bhawks were terrible for a few seasons, but it looks like they are now set for awhile.
This is why DL has gone after leaders, and not players who will fall apart with a year of adversity.

I also believe that there will be many great coaches to choose from when they see the character on the roster. DL has picked up boys who ant to play.
