I watched the game tonight and besides all the usual guys who normally impress, I must say I really liked how Clune played tongiht. Lots of grit, hitting everything that moved, got into a good scrap…this is my kind of player. Hope he makes the team in a year or 2. We could really use a guy like him on the ice….

    Richard,
    Who is Jones?
    GOALTENDERS:
    Los Angeles:
    Bernier (30:08, 17-17)
    Jones (29:52, 20-21)

Also, below the image, Jones was in net, but it says JB.

I like how they caption the lead image “Jonathan Bernier stopped all 17 shots he faced as the Kings defeated the Coyotes, 2-1 in the first game of the Kings/Coyotes Rookie Tournament.” and it isn’t him in the photo. haha.

I really enjoyed what I saw too. Gotta love there was a fight =P

Minus the feed crapping out during the 3rd period for me, it was great. Hooray for archived video!

Hey Rich, I was just wondering if you have any interviews prepared with Moller, Simmonds, Bernier and Doughty after the Rookie Games with Phoenix or will there be interviews with also a few others (Boyle, Purcell, Moulson, who are favorites to be added to the team) after training camp?
As always you are doing a great job with all these behind the scenes access to us Kings fans.

As said Clune is a guy to watch in a couple of years. We definitely got the better part of the Clune-Tukonen deal.

Sorry for the repost, but any news on Schneider and O’Sullivan. Thanks

I watched the game as well.

Doughty looked solid in terms of skating and puck control. He drove the net a few times and defenders couldnt shake the puck from him. No doubt in my mind he’ll make it. You could notice that the other rookies felt rushed when they recieved the puck, to either pass or clear it. Doughty had a cool head and knew when to hold it and when to dump it.

    Hickey didnt skate.

The other standout in my mind was Simmonds, he registered 2 pts. 1 goal, 1 assist. The assist was his a shot off the post and the rebound was put in. His goal came from a melee in the slot. However, it wasnt the scoring plays that impressed me the most. He was aggressive/ physical while away from the puck. His puck control and passing were the best of the night. His vision on the break out and from behind the net are good. If his counterparts were up to par he would have had about 4 assists ( he fed at least 4 clean cut chances).

Tuebert didnt look like a first rounder in my opinion. Sloppy neutral zone passing and lacked quickness. The thing I’m pissed about though is that he has NO physical presence. He didnt push anyone around in front of the net.

Clune is very Avery-like. He is scrappy and fought someone much bigger.

Voinov has really good hands but looks pretty slow in terms of lateral movement.

…I had written down all of the lines for 5 on 5/ powerplay/ penalty kill but its 6am, I’m at work and I forgot my notes. EFF!

That is all from this Kings fan.

Giving up a goal :30 after we score? 38 shots against?

    Mmmm…Kings hockey.

    LOL ;)

  • Brian

Hey Rich, what do you think about Simmonds cracking the line up this year? Too early?

  • Aloysius

better then giving up two goals, 20 seconds after we score

  • Paul

TSN is reporting that the Kings invited Marty Murray to training camp. Ummmmm. Why?

Why not. Don’t lose sleep over it.

  • WhoThePuck

TSN is reporting Schneider cleared waivers.

  • Quisp

Clune has already outperformed Tukonen. Shockingly.

Sorry to be off topic here guys. I’m thinking of getting Center Ice this year and was wondering if its worth it. Since they’ll only have 10 games on HD this year (I’m assuming on Home games), will HD broadcast on away games be shown on HD? I’m counting on other teams to broadcast games on HD to see the Kings on HD. What I’m trying to get at is, I’m trying to see if I could get more than 10 HD games for the Kings. I’m rambling here, but uh, for the people that purchased Center Ice last year, did it work that way? Thanks for the response.

  • Jonny

    Hey Mrk,
I started getting Center Ice 2 years ago, and believe it or not, I end up watching hockey every night after work… theres always a pretty good game on, I think its worth it. I feel like I have a stronger knowledge of all the toehr teams and players in the leagues now. Supposedly the DirectTV center Ice package is going to have close to 20 games a week in HD this year.

    MRK:

I don’t believe you’ll get anymore HD games for the Kings with Center-Ice, unless they are games that FSW are NOT broadcasting. Otherwise, those Kings games will be blacked out on the Center-Ice feed. Maybe I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure thats how it works.

  • simonsez

mrk, check into whether the opposing teams’ HD broadcasts will be blacked out for you in games that are shown on FSN. I heard that’s the case, and the only way to get around it is to have them change your service address to one that’s out-of-market.

C’mon man, you can’t judge him on 1 rookie/prospect game. What did you expect, Chris Pronger out there destroying everybody? He did lay out Turris pretty good, which has to earn a few points. Many wrote off Boyle too after his first prospect game and he turned out ok, so give the kid a chance before you start calling BUST.
