Final...Kings 6, Coyotes 4

| | Comments (22) |

David Meckler capped the scoring with an empty-net goal with three seconds left for his second goal of the game, with assists to Matt Greene and Anze Kopitar...and it's a final.

Three-point nights for Oscar Moller (goal, two assists) and Meckler, who also had an assist.

The Kings outshot the Coyotes 31-25. The Kings went 3 for 5 on the power play while the Coyotes went 2 for 5.

Jason LaBarbera played the first two periods and stopped 13 of 17 shots. Danny Taylor played the third period and stopped all eight shots he faced.

Two victories for the Kings in one night! Do you believe in...well, you get the idea...

everybody relax....it's pre-season.

Nice start but it is kids vs kids. Still tho, not a bad showing, except for Lababs....kinda shaky. Way to go, Big O!!!

I was at the game at Staples tonight and was very unimpressed with LaBarbera... Granted it's the first pre-season game and he may not be at full form yet, but he did not look anything like a starting NHL goalie. It's just one game, so not panicking yet, but there's definitely a great opportunity for one of the other goalies to step up an steal the starting job.

One guy that really impressed me today - Brian Boyle. His goal was very impressive - boxing out a dman in front and when he got the puck turned right around and put it up top. He will be a 20 goal scorer this season if he gets the playing time.

Bummer about Lababs. Too many goalies in camp to put up a performance like that.

Agree with LB on Boyle. If he gets top 3 line playing time with additional PP time: 25 goals, 60 points, and runner up for rookie of the year.

Im a labarbera fan, and wow what a bad showing. its the little things, he still isnt holding holding onto rebound, and letting in soft goalsd... he just seems not in control. Danny Taylor came in and made some pretty big saves in the third. he received alot of love from the crowd. I liked what I saw from greene, Voynov, and even Gauthier... This was the first time I saw Hickey play, and he looked good. Carried the puck well, good passes, and wasnt afraid to get a little dirty. I liked what I saw.

I went to the Kings game and a hockey game broke out.

Everyone played well with the exception of Labarbera.
Lateral movement issues.

Ivanans destroyed this guy Keefe in a fight. It was a pretty brutal beating, which could have been worse but finally Ivanans took mercy. Or his hands got too bloody. Ivanans also had some nifty stickwork plays, setting up others for good chances: after one of the plays Ivanans actually smiled.

No C but A's to Brown and Greene.

I thought all the players played well and we actually spent most of the game in their zone. Did not see ANY breakaway outnumbered attacks on the Kings--seemed like a first to this fan since 1989. Seems like in the past we gave away so many quality chances but not many tonight if any. They scored several but I cannot think of any defensive breakdowns. I did miss 5 minutes of period 2-- cloutier issues see below

Lots of praise to heap, I think. Voynov looked very strong; Hickey did some nice things but maybe tried to do too much (Hickey looked very strong on the puck--he is a real player; no wasted pick there.) Green is a bit slow but really strong and battles. He crushed one guy. Gautier is big and solid.

There was one play where Hickey started battling the aforementioned brute Keefe in front of the net. Hickey gave away some size and actually did pretty well. Hickey is not the biggest but he is a strong dude.

Up front, Boyle, Lewis, Meckler, Moller all looked solid and made good plays. Boyle is a load. Brown and Kopitar looked strong and kept making plays; Parse played their wing and kept up.

Frolov was at the game in a suit with the other russian kid.

O'Sullivan should get himself to camp before someone takes his job.

BREAKING NEWS:
Two Cloutier supposedly game worn jerseys are left at the Kings shop-- $250 each. I was late to the 2nd period talking my brother out of buying me one. Gallows love.

For the 2 minutes I was able to steal away and listen to the Blues radio telecast I nearly kvelled hearing Nick and Darryl again. The season is officially oh so close!

I love hearing Moller did well. I've wanted to see him on the roster all off-season. I hope he's on the roster at frozen fury on Saturday.

Ive said this all along, but I think Boyle has way more offensive upside then Stoll, if he was centering that 2nd line with Frolov on his wing, look out. the guy knows where to put the puck right when it hits his stick, and witha guy like frolov opening up space and time for him... that would be quite the offensive force.

anyone else notice or see how bad kopi and brown were playing? they didnt look like they were even trying. I know its pre-season and all but even the other fans in my section were wondering wtf they were doing. Frolov was in KC i believe

LaBarbara has not, nor ever will be an NHL goaltender. He has had lateral movement issues his entire NHL career.

Sorry to say it boys and girls.

Outside of him...Oscar Moller...I really like you, can you stay?

Brian Boyle has more confidence right now than anyone I have ever seen...he may be penciled into the 4th line role, but if he keeps playing like this, he may not give them much of a choice (which is fine with me).

But, of course, CBGB doesn't think he will ever be an NHL player.

I know it's pre-season, but I can't help but get excited that the Kings won both.

In the other game, I saw that Quick played well. 30 saves....did Zatkoff get into that game?

Wooooo hooooo, we doubled our win total from last year in one night!

I always love to hear about Brian Boyle doing well.

But--I heard he was on the ice for a couple of Gs against.

Is there a box score available to figure +/- from?

I'm tellin' ya', if we put Boyle with the likes of
Moller/Simmonds/Frolov/Purcell, we are gonna' see some real offense happening.

Make no mistake about it--This season will have it's ups & downs, but this year is gonna' be fun too.
