Goalie in, goalie out
Just got back from the third day of training camp, and we have our first injury report. Jonathan Bernier did not practice today because of what was described, vaguely, as some stiffness in his leg. It doesn't appear to be serious. Erik Ersberg, out for the first two days with flu symptoms, returned and had a full day of practice. The big casualty of the day was Marc-Andre Cliche, who took an ugly hit during the second scrimmage. Cliche had to be helped off the ice. He has a wrist injury and he looked pretty woozy as well.
I'll have a lot of notes and quotes as the day goes on...

Rich Hammond has covered the Kings, on a full-time or part-time basis, since the 2000-01 season. He was the beat writer for the entire John Torchetti era and has witnessed Bob Miller singing country music in a Nashville honky-tonk bar. Jill Painter joined the Daily News in 2000 and during the last eight years she's covered the Dodgers, Cal State Northridge, UCLA, Kings, golf and everything in between. Even though she's from Colorado, she still freezes in the Staples Center press box but always manages to thaw her fingers in time to make deadline. E-mail Jill at

Who hit him?
Gauthier, says Battle of California. Also says Cliche "fell awkwardly." Anybody see it?
I'm sorry to see that he's injured, but you have to love when, on a message board, someone posts his injury and says that he fell awkwardly and was helped off the ice with no weight on one leg...
I guess wrist injuries can do that to ya :)
i saw it. he and the other player, could have been gauthier, went into the corner for the puck. cliche went into the boards on his butt and hit with his legs very awkwardly. everything stopped and several of the players looked concerned. the trainers all went out and were working on him for a few minutes. it was hard to tell where they were looking because everyone was standing over him. they had to help him up and it took two people to skate him off. it looked like a left knee injury, by the way he was favoring that leg - skate above the ice, not taking any strides, but am not 100% since i'm not a doctor.
I was standing In the corner where he got hit, would have been a boarding call. He was definatley holding his wrist, and put a tooth thru his lip. He might have hurt his leg, but I think he was just to woozy to skate on his own.
