Murray, on the team captain

Terry Murray was asked about team leadership...

-----

Question: Have you thought about a team captain?

MURRAY: The captaincy and the alternates, I think I'll just take my time on that. I think the 22 days of training camp are really important for me to see how that's going to unfol, who's going to step up in critical situations in the eight exhbition games that we have. And then sit down with people in the organization, not only the coaching staff but with management upstairs and make the decision. I do want a captain and I do want two alternate captains. I want to stay with those three people. I don't want to rotate. I really feel that that's important for an organization to make that kind of a decision, that we know what we're doing, we know the people we want to lead us. When the time comes, we'll have that sense and we'll make the right decision.

IMO, Brown needs to be given the "C". The "A"s can go to any of the following:

I'm glad that Murray is not going with 3 "A"s or rotating captains.

Brown deserves the C. Handzus is likely to get a letter somewhere just for being a Flyer and one of the only vets staying with the team. Kopitar should get an A. Jack Johnson and Frolov should be considered for letters after that.

Without a doubt, Dustin Brown deserves the "C". He's been a King since he was an 18 yr old rookie in '03 and has earned his stripes. His signing of a six year contract shows his commitment to the team.

captain: brown (already looks like the captain out there. leading strecthing exercises, leading by example with the wind sprint drills).

alternates: handzus (folks he really looks more comfortable skating, i think he is finally 100% after the knee surgery) and johnson (looks stronger and filled in his uni more than last season). i happened to be sitting with johnson's father during the first pk/pp scrimmage on the olympic ice sheet. i think his pop liked what he saw.
