TV/radio schedule announced

| | Comments (26) |

The Kings have announced their TV and radio schedules for the 2008-09 season. Sixty-eight of the Kings' 82 games will be televised by FSN or Prime Ticket -- three Kings-Ducks games will be done by the Ducks' crew -- and all 82 games will be broadcast on the Kings' radio network. The TV broadcasts will be followed by the ``Kings Live'' show and 10 games will be shown in high definition (they didn't announce which games). The radio network includes the flagship, 1150-AM in Los Angeles, plus: Santa Clarita, KHTS 1220 AM; Ventura, KVTA 1520 AM; Palmdale/Lancaster, KOSS 1380 AM; Banning, KMET 1490 AM; Bakersfield, KGEO 1230 AM and Ridgecrest, KLOA 1240 AM. Preseason games will also be on the radio, with the exception of the Sept. 22 game at Staples Center. The preseason game in Kansas City, on the same day, will be on the radio. The entire TV schedule follows...

There's nothing like shorter days, the weather getting cooler and listening to Bob Miller, Foxy, Nick and Daryl. The Kings TV/Radio crew is still THE BEST in the NHL!

Got to love Fox Sports. I guess Center Ice is a must. Good luck watching the Kings play a Canadian team on the road. Cheap bastards.

I couldn't help but notice the 3 game trip to Canada in April isn't being televised. If I remember correctly FSN usually skips a Canada trip once a season, but doing so at the end of the season is either lousy broadcast management or somebody must really want to spare the fans of what may be a brutal season. Sorry if I sound like a crybaby-sissy. I am actually thankful that I can watch so many games this season in the comfort of my living room without paying the prices at Staples. Thank you FSN West and Prime Ticket and hooray for Bob and Foxy.

Are they ever going to up the number of HD games they do in a season? It seems like each year we get maybe 4-5 games total.

Every other sport is more and more in HD every year but the NHL seems to stand still.

I wonder if the lack of Canadian games being broadcast, especially that last road trip, have something to do with CBC or TSN having exclusivity rights?

Eric K Author Profile Page said:

so does this mean we're not getting any VS or NBC games?

Chris said:

HD games, yes you will get more than 4 or 5 total. This year you get 10.....

we also had only 10 games in HD last season. ALL of the Lakers games this season will be broadcast in HD. It is rediculous to only offer such a small number of Kings games given todays broadcast standards and wide availability of hi-def televisions. Is this strictly a budget issue (again)??

I honestly can't wait :)

Seems like it's been forever since I've seen the guys play.

Only 10 games in HD, that really sucks.I know it's still more last year, but many teams broadcast all their games in HD. As for games on NBC/Versus, those channels are only for the Pens, Rangers, Flyers and Wild (who I think have 10 games on versus). We have "0" games on either of those channels.

Would it be too much to ask to have a radio station that can actually be heard in Orange County after dark? I get mostly Banda on 1150 after the sun goes down...

"10 games will be shown in high definition."

UUUHHHGGG! SO. LAME. I mean, Nashville has 22 HD games this year. Don't they understand it's the HD games that will attract new viewers?

Like, "Hey, I can finally see the puck!" Or, "Hey, with this wider viewing area I now notice that those aren't the same 5 guys circling around out there and they actually change shifts on the fly!"

I don't understand the logic in NOT showing games against teams the Kings play very rarely but continue to show games against the Pacific teams. Another words why not show the games in Ottawa and Montreal and maybe skip a game against Phoenix or Dallas? I don't remember the last time the Kings televised a game from Montreal...

Unacceptable. This is the entertainment capital of the fucking world and out of 82 games in the year only 10 are televised in HD? Is this some kind of a joke? Who is in charge of this shit?

I LOVE Center Ice on DirecTV. My Best friend for the NHL season.

Hey Rich,
Maybe you can get to the bottom of the lack of HD games that we get? I called FSW and got no help when I asked why we don't get more LA Kings HD games.

Here's my solution to the Canadian blackout....road trip. I'm gonna throw it out there right now that I'm gonna take a week off from work to follow the Kings around (plus I've never seen a game in Canada before).

If all goes well the Kings will be mathematically eliminated by Thanksgiving...j/k

C'mon, Kings!

If New Hampshire vs. Army is in HD, there's no excuse anymore.

The lack of more HD is extremely disappointing. The Kings could probably expand their fan base in North America if they went in the other direction and offered all their games exclusively in HD. But of course it's a money thing. And it reminds me of something I've wondered every time I watch the Kings HD games:

Has anyone else noticed that the Kings HD games look crappier than other HD broadcasts, like they are somehow less hi-def? It is of course true that just because a station is broadcasting in HD doesn't mean that the resolution of the programming is HD. Does anyone know what the technical details are regarding the exact broadcast standards for HD? I remember, for example, a number of years ago when HD was originally "pitched," it was said that a broadcaster could use their HD bandwidth in any number of ways, to send an HD channel through the pipes, or to send a number of low-res channels through one HD pipe, or to send interactive content, etc... it wouldn't necessarily be used to send one super beautiful looking show.

I always thought, for example, that Edmonton's home games looked the best on (non HD) TV. Something about the lights and the color of the ice, really made the uniforms jump out. So there's a lighting issue too, possibly.

or am I just nuts?

HD would be nice, but I'm just thankful I'll have a chance to watch 68 games. Think about it folks, we finished last, in a unpopular sport, with rating that don't even register, but yet have the privilege of watching 68 of 82 games. I think that's pretty damn good. Can't wait. Quisp how long?

I asked this earlier too -- it's ridiculous!!

it's a good thing I have XM, but that doesn't help me hear the Kings' PBP when they're on the road (it's home team broadcasters only).

I also agree on the 10 games in HD... wtf? they do realize 75% of their audience have giant HDTV's, and expensive HD pacakges, yes? this is L.A. not Cleveland! they should make sure at least half the games will be in HD this yr, going up to 60% next year, 80% the following, then 100%

My guess for the April roadtrip to Canada not being broadcast is due to the Angels being back in season, and having them as the prime sportsteam on FSN West. :S

Lack of HD broadcasts for a freaking LOS ANGELES team is absolutely ridiculous. Rich, is there any word you can get on the official stance on this? It makes zero sense and continues to help relegate hockey into some sort of archaic niche.

brianguy Author Profile Page said:

HD was also supposed to take hockey from a mediocre TV sport to one of the best ones. coupled with the wider aspect ratio, you can see more of the ice and it's just like you're there if not better. broadcasting in HD it should not only help ratings but also promote the sport to a lot more viewers and fans. apparently networks don't care or yet to understand that.

basketball in HD. who cares -- so I can watch Kobe drip sweat? the ball is like 10" diameter and orange, a puck is black and 3" across. do the math...

HD = important for viewing hockey and football, "nice to have" for baseball and basketball
