More from Quincey

As promised, here’s my quick interview with Kyle Quincey from before yesterday’s game.

On being claimed by Kings
“I’m thrilled. I couldn’t get the smile off my face. I’m so excited to be here. It’s a new challenge for myself. I met all the guys today. It’s a great organization.”

On his friendship with O’Sullivan…
“He picked me up at the airport. Hopefully, he’ll show me around. We’ll be roommates for a little bit. Sully’s a great guy. I know he’s a great player. I played with him in juniors. We know each other so well on the ice, so that’s huge.”

On the state of the Kings’ organization
“The way I look at it, it’s a chance for me to be a part of that foundation. It’s exciting. I look at it as a challenge. It’s a good way to start my career.”

On whether he was caught up in numbers game in Detroit
“Detroit’s a very special place. Guys take pay cuts to stay there. Winnings is what they do there. They had 10 defensemen join camp. That’s a pretty hard lineup to crack. I’m grateful for my time there and being part of the Stanley Cup, their tradition and winning ways. I learned so much.”

On his conversation with Lombardi before game
“I talked to him before the game. He welcomed me to the team. I got to see the room. I’m in awe right now, meeting everybody and trying to remember everyone’s name.”

On what type of defenseman we can expect to see…
A Stay-at-home defenseman who jumps up in the rush and sticks up for his teammates and makes the other team pay the price.

    Love his last answer.

We had a good record for not getting penalties last season, I was hoping we could keep that up. I hope he doesn’t take too many stupid/bad penalties.

  • Brian S

    love the last answer too!

  • Matt George

correct me if I’m wrong but upon hearing about the trade he told the detroit paper ” I guess I’ll just have to male the best of it”

That doesn’t sound like a happy guy to me

Harrold looked like crap last night. I wonder if Quincey will replace him? I get the feeling Terry Murray will give Harrold a few more chances to make the adjustment before he gets replaced. But last night’s performance left plenty of room for improvement, in my opinion, thats for sure.

matty downer, he had a chance to take it all in and gave a great interview here. kudos! i thought his answers were excellent and sincere. he sounds like a very smart guy.

Interesting what he had to say about players taking pay cuts to stay in Detroit.
We’re a long way from that point, but hopefully with the leadership of Brown and Kopitar, we’ll get to that point someday.
I know…lets get to the playoffs first!

Some fan – I don’t know if you’re hung up on Harrolds early jitters, but he had a great game once he settled down and I feel he truly stepped up and into the offensive defenseman role well once Doughty left the game.

Hey, we punched the Ducks in the mouth last night without Johnson and without the mature beyond his years Doughty for 2 periods. Harrold and Handzus even acting like the Bruise Brothers.

  • Micah

I have a feeling we may see this kid around for a while, as part of the “foundation”…

  • WingsFan

He’s a good, solid d-man, you’ll be happy. We just had too many, and Derek Meech just seemed to outplay him in camp and their stints in the big league… someone had to go. Only knock I ever heard was that he was a bit “big” on himself/abilities, watch out for ego trips…

    Matt George:

Here is the actual quote from Ansar Khan’s Column.

“I had two days to think about it. I packed thinking I was going to get picked up, but I looked at it as a win-win,” Quincey said. “If I didn’t get picked up, I got to stay here. But I did, and it’s a good opportunity and I’m going to make the best of it. (The Kings) took a chance on me. Hopefully, they like me enough to put me in the lineup.”

I love it when people only use the part of the quote that supports their opinion. You didn’t even use the entire sentence

You should work for Fox News

    I am happy he’s a King
