Getting the band back together

Patrick O'Sullivan is skating with Brown and Kopitar. Calder with Moller and Stoll...Moulson with Armstrong and Ivanans.

I think Ivanas is a big mistake he reminds of Domi. Getting stupid penalities at the wrong time and putting the team behind. Without a doubt put Richardson on this line they will make positive things happen and not negative. It is finesee that wins games now a days not stupidity. Gretzky himself said " I have never scored a goal while in the penalty box"

Maybe he should try swapping Calder with Frolov also. Just a thought.

Since tomorrow is game 9 for Moller and Simmonds, I'm curious if both are staying with the Kings? I think Moller stays, Simmonds goes back to Junior. Simmonds was great the first couple of games, but seems to have faded a bit since.

And I think we'd all be absolutely shocked if Doughty were sent back. He's been outstanding, and seems to get better every game.

Might be a good poll topic Rich. :D

I think moving O'Sullivan to the first line may have as much to do with jump starting Kopitar's production as it does with simply getting that line back together.

HARRY said:

Hey Rich,
How about Simmonds? Or BOYLE? What is Boyle's status?
I know TM IS switching things around, trying to develop a new system...but I am interested to know who will be sent to the juniors/minors?

Thanks !

Are the three of them going to make the next Rock Band video (like the Kobe/T.Hawk/A. Rod/M. Phelps version)? Thanks for the great updates, as always, Rich!

I'm not understanding the love affair with Ivanans. Richardson is a good guy in the faceoff circle, has some speed, has some grit, and would at least give Moulson and Armstrong a legitimate chance to cycle, grind and potentially score.

Giddy up! I hope that first line has a few games to bring back the magic from last year! Can't wait to see them all playing on Thursday night, GO KINGS GO.

Sapper1, Interesting point of view.

My take is that Ivanans offers the ability to make room out there, and offer some "push back" to the opposition. He's not there to score, so Gretzky's quote (although great) doesn't apply here. Richardson is vanilla, I haven't seen a single shift where he impacted the game. Ivanans however, does make an impact. He can change the tide with his fighting ability, and his size in front of the net ain't so bad either. Just my 2 cents...

p.s. SO HAPPY TO SEE POS WITH KOPI AND BROWN. HERE COME THE KINGS!

Gretzky had Semeko and McSorly...and Semeko even played on his line sometimes.

where's Zeus???

i've been more impressed with him than Moulson...

redcard said:

I'll assume Zeus is with Frolov and Simmonds, like he's been all season ;)

Nick said:

Zeus is probably still with Frolov and Simmonds, I'd imagine.

Zeus is centering the line with Frolov and Simmonds.

Jack,

I'm assuming the Handzeus-Frolov-Moller line is still intact.

And Handzus is finally our 2nd line center !!!

Oh, and seriously what's with all the riding of Ivanans for stopping a 40 goal scorer last season from coming in on Labarbera uncontested, it's not like ivanans was gonna catch up to him if he tried to skate with him. Just in case you missed the shootout labarbera got worked by Zetterberg in the shootout, and probally would have had the same happen if Ivanans didn't drag him down. Smart play by Ivanans.

Oh, and for the labarbera haters:

That's right, he's there....though probally not for long.

The unreleased interview excerpt....

QUESTION: Was there something you saw in practice that prompted you to reunite Kopitar, Brown and O'Sullivan?

MURRAY: Not really. I just wanted to make anthony happy.

QUESTION: You know he is a lawyer, right?

MURRAY: Is that right? Is he the one who came up with Lord Cammalleri, Dumbardi and The Magnificent Moulson?

Together: BRILLIANT!

Zeus is with Frolov and Simmonds. These lines make total sense and I'll look forward to seeing them Thursday (Hopefully they stay this way). Nice to see Sully finally up where he belongs, but I credit Coach Murray for trying other options early incase of future injuries.

I'd like to see Brian Boyle center the 4th line with Army and Richardson on the wings. Let Ivanans sit a few and tell Boyle to develop a 'Mean Streak' or sit a few more games.

My 2 cents

Whoops!

Both the double post *and* not noticing Moller moving lines! Therefore, I assume the other line is Handzus-Frolov-Simmonds.

Glad to see that 1st line back, big game for Oscar I hope they dont send him back to the WHL afterwards. Rich was Gauthier wearing a green jersy (scratched)?

PRMan said:

Handzus has been with Frolov and Simmonds all season. That line has been solid defensively and has chipped in goals at key times.

It will be nice to see what playmaker Kopitar and grinder Brown can do with sniper POS between them.

I don't mind that Terry Murray wants to spread the offense to different lines, but I figured he would at least want to give the Sully/Kopi/Brown line a chance considering the success and chemistry they displayed last season. I hope he gives them a few games before mixing it up again. Pretty please with sugar on top, let these guys work together.

WhoThePuck said:

jack handy, we all assume you were just too excited about the top line being back together.

I like our 1st and 3rd lines greatly (our 3rd line frolov/zeus was to be our 2nd line last year. Stoll is doing well, Moeller has promise, we are a steady producer on this line from having a very nice 9 forward grouping.

uhhhh....Moller has never been on a line with Zeus and Frolov, Simmonds has been there all year....Moller has played with Stoll and O'Sullivan....

I hope this move doesn't suck the life out of Stoll and Moller!

Roger said:

Rich,

Do you see any chance in having Boyle back in the lineup? I hate to see a rooky sit on the side lines for a long stretch. Do you think the next step for him is back down in the minors? Because it sure looks like Moller and Simonds are going to stick around after their 10 game tri out with the big club.
Waiting for your response.

Thanks
Roger

I like the idea of sharing the wealth and spreading it out, but something had to be done to jumpstart Kopitar...

And yes, Boyle should get some ice time, or a plane ticket to New Hampshire...

Bart Crashley said:

Hi Marc Nathan. The idea of Richardson picking up Ivanans job is nuts. Ivanans is there for a purpose, and he seems to do a good job when needed. And, four or five times a year he even produces offense with only three or four minutes a game. Richardson is a wimp. Perhaps you missed the "fight" he had last week. It was a paper bag over the head Kings fan event and really pathetic. I don't get why Richardson in even in the lineup. He's boring and seems ineffective in every way.

Exciting news with POS reuniting. Next move up will be Fro.

Esa Pirnes said:

The Kings should ship Moller back to the CHL and put Richardson in on the wing with Stoll. Moller needs to grow up a little physically and being in Juniors is the best for him. They should also skate either Moulson or Boyle on the wing with Handzus and Frolov. Simmonds has been invisible on that line and needs to develop physically, as well. Ship him out to the AHL where he can gain confidence in playing a physical brand of hockey against men. I don't remember the last time he even finished a check or displayed any type of aggression in a game. He looks like he's playing scared out there and over his head. Put in down to Manchester so that he can develop into the power forward that he has the potential to be.

I might be the only one but I don't like this move. Right now the opposition has had to choose between stifling Kopitar/Brown of Stoll/Sully...and now they don't have to. Leaving it the way it was would have let Kopi figure out how to handle the attention or if he didn't some of the attention would have shifted to the Stoll/Sully line. It's worth a try I guess but I think it was better spread out.
