Live blog: Kings vs. Colorado
The live chat should be up and going, but the blog server seems to be having some issues. I'll keep this open as a ``live blog'' as well, to post goals and such during the game, rather than having 15 different posts during the game.
To start, Peter Harrold, Kyle Calder and Brian Boyle are the scratches for the Kings, as expected. For the Avalanche, it's Ben Guite and Daniel Tjarnqvist.
FIRST PERIOD
4:34: Kings on power play. Smyth for hooking.
6:19: KINGS LEAD 1-0. Oscar Moller, on the power play, scores. He held the puck a couple feed beyond the end line and took a sweeping shot toward the net. Budaj, playing a pass, had the puck deflected off his leg and into the net.
11:28: TIED 1-1. Ryan Smyth slips the defense, takes a centering pass from Paul Stastny and scores from the left circle.
16:20: Kings have a brief 5-on-3 power play but go scoreless.
END OF FIRST PERIOD: TIED 1-1
SECOND PERIOD
3:02: KINGS LEAD 2-1. Patrick O'Sullivan with the backhand on a rebound, assists to Stoll and Moller.
4:01: TIED 2-2. Hejduk scores after a turnover by Handzus.
5:16: COLORADO LEADS 3-2. David Jones scores after a poor clearing attempt by the Kings and scores on a long-range slap shot. Colorado has three goals on six shots.
16:32: COLORADO LEADS 4-2. Ryan Smyth gives Drew Doughty a NHL education, and he goes around him, goes in alone on LaBarbera and scores on the backhand.
END OF SECOND PERIOD. COLORADO LEADS 4-2.
2:25: COLORADO LEADS 4-3. Drew Doughty with his first NHL goal, a wrist shot from the left circle.
FINAL. COLORADO WINS 4-3.

Cristabol = Quincey leads the Kings in ice time with 9:02, 2 minutes more than anyone else. You have to admit he is solid.
Congragulations to Oscar for goal #1.
The magnificent Moulson cotinues to light it up on the top line. Breath-taking.
Looks like it's time for Barbs to get out of the net. Three goals on six shots ... that is just sad ;(
It's apparent La Boobala is not a bona fide No. 1 NHL goalie.
Let's give Ersberg a shot, eh?
LaBaby needs to be put back in his place.
A solid back-up goalie.
I don't know what this coach has against Ersberg.
And that Moulson continues to make his linemates shine.
I have lost confidence of Barbs, but I am not sure those goals were his fault. he should have come out higher on the long shot (3rd), but would have it made a difference?
we ABSOLUTELY should have won tonight,
huge dissapointment,
3 or 4 defensive turnovers = the reason we lost the game, the rest of the game was fantastic.
how can you say Labarbera is not a number 1. His save percentage before this game was over 91 percent. No bad goals tonight, but any bad critisism would be he couldnt make the big save. 2 bad turnovers and Dougthy getting schooled was how they lost this one. Whatever. entertaining game and they played real solid. Looked good from the couch.
while i do agree that Doughty got schooled on that play...Labs lost the game for us. We should've one this game. Anyway, I'm glad to see Ersberg again. He's personally my favorite goalie that the Kings have. he really proved himself to me last season.
seems like we may see alot of these type of games this year, where we outplay the opposition, but rookie mistakes, an undisiplined turnover or bad goal leave us with an L instead of a W, at least at the beginning of the season. The key is to see if they can win these games at the end of the year as they build toward the dominant team they should be in the years to come.
labs wasnt solid tonight. you need to make big saves to be number 1. also sully needs to be on the kopi/brown line. moulson is a hard working, grinder type forward (not a goal scorer) and should be on a hard working line with stoll, even though moller will be with a less talented line. it is still a good third line and the first would compete with some of the best in the league. I think murray has done a good job but he cant ignore the total lack of chemistry with moulson on the first line. there was a couple of times in the game where kopi didnt pass to moulson when he could of and that is probably due to his lack of faith in the guy. put him on the third line and let him work his way up. 1 point and a -3 on the top line is not acceptable.
Again Brown and Kopi are lost out there with Moulson. The experiment is over TM needs to give the Kings a bonafide # 1 line that can score put Sully where he belongs, with his linemates. We are wasting their abilities and production which could mean wins when they are not together.
Doughty was phenomenal tonight. except for the shift after his goal he was creative, in control, good decision making, and all around impressive.
at least from the view on tv.
3 stars:
1. Patio
2. Doughty
3. Quincey
Part of being a good team is to be able to make the other team pay for their mistakes. That's what the Av's did. I think LaBabs is a good goalie but you need someone who can steal games.
The Kings outplayed the Av's tonight but the difference was the inability of the #1 goalie to make an uplifting save.
TM will probably stick with LaBabs but I have a feeling more games like last night will will make TM change his mind.
DD looks like the 2nd coming of Bobby Orr. Quite impressive for a young kid.
The way everyone is talking, it's almost like Moulson is the catalyst for first line scoring. But if Kopi and Brown are half the players we think they are, they would not need Moulson to play well just to get themselves going. They have 3 and 4 points respectively in 5 games so there is no reason to panic.
Maybe they can do better with Sully next to them but Murray wants balanced scoring so he puts Sully, who has turned his game up a notch or two compared to last season, on another line. Looking at that line, Stoll has 3 points and Moller also has 3 points. Hopefully they can continue to produce but, based on what I am seeing so far, I am fine with the line-up changes.
Labs didn't make the big save but there weren't any BAD goals. It wasn't his fault. The second period for some reason the Kings were running around and weren't covering their men and weren't makigng good outlets.
Now the ice was TERRIBLE tonight. They might as well have been playing with a rubber ball instead of a puck out there.
Dan H brings up the Bad Ice problem again. It certainly looked, on TV, like there were lots of problems by both teams controlling pucks when no pressure was on. Add to this the recurring GLASS breakages and pop-outs and someone is bound to get hurt. Staples center is not looking good. 3 games, 3 Glass problems. Oy.
